A nice looking grocery store that is clean and stocked with a wide selection. However the layout of their produce section is a bit odd and could use some work. It's not bad per se, but some sections are awkward and weird where they clearly didn't utilize the space properly. So why am I giving this place 5 stars? As an out of towner from the west coast, I didn't have a Shaw's membership, but no worries for me! Without hesitation the worker scanned their membership codes so I still got the deals. On 6/27/26 at approximately 1330 hrs while shopping at Shaws Market in Bangor, I observed 2 rats run out from under and then back under the cheese cooler in the dairy section at the left side, rear of the store. I reported it to a clerk who said they would contact the manager. read more

This was a very unreal experience. The shopping part was decent and we found what we needed but I had to also use the restroom while there and it was crazy. The blue lights in the bathroom made me feel as though I entered a different (wrong) dimension which soon made sense as once I saw the toilet I immediately gasped as there was a mufkin parasite on the seat! So I went to the other stall and there were deuce splatters everywhere so I had to go back to the bug stall and move the parasite all while trying so hard not to actually throw up. I have never been so traumatized using a Shaws bathroom before. I felt filthy just standing in there and got out as fast as possible. read more

TL:DR- Hostile to queer people, expensive, bad selection, strangely unfinished inside. This place is really strange. It's been here as long as I can remember, but the walls are all a flat beige when in other Shaw's they have decorations, department names, and so forth on them. It's as if they stopped halfway through remodeling, or like they're just about to go out of business. I can't quite tell which. The selection here is really poor and the prices are significantly higher than Hannaford. It's like they expect all their clientele to be older affluent people who don't actually cook, they just buy ready-made stuff to stick in the oven or the microwave. This doesn't really live up to what I need in a supermarket. All of this on its own might add up to three, maybe two stars. Why one star, might you ask? I'm giving Shaw's one star out of five because I already reviewed Hannaford (which is so sad and bad) at 2 stars and this place is even worse. Bangor is already a conservative city, and as a trans woman I'm used to stares, glares, and bad treatment. But when I come through here, it steps up to another level, not just from the clientele (who Shaw's can't control) but also from the people working here. The few times I've been through, my cashiers have been consistently hostile, to the point of not saying anything to me. I don't shop at Shaw's anymore because I actually don't feel safe here. I think this is probably my favorite supermarket in/around Central Maine. Relatively late hours, pleasant staff, good sales, great variety including BIG GAY ICE CREAM! I love that they support one of Maine's own, which none of the other markets do (shame). read more

The quality of the food, especially produce, is good. Unfortunately the quality of staff leaves a LOT to be desired. So long as you know where to look for whatever you are looking for and don't need help from anyone you should be fine. read more

I love this grocery store. It's well-laid out, the staff is super friendly and best of all, the store smells like fresh popped popcorn. There's a fresh seafood area where you can buy live lobsters (and other seafood stuff, yuck) a bakery, a deli meats (and fresh popcorn/tortilla chips), a pharmacy, flower stand and large produce area. With all this freshness, you almost forget about the aisles. My one gripe is that their butcher section isn't better and the organic meat/chicken selection is lacking. But there are endless rows of aisles with organic foods and toiletries, mexican for taco night, italian for pasta night and plenty of options for baby or Fido. Plenty of variety, too. I love their MyMixx coupon saver app and check it before I run to the store. It saves me upwards of 5% on my groceries, awesome! They also have running deals where you collect stamps to earn items (this quarter we're working on our knife sets from Cuisinart). They're a little inefficient with packing their plastic bags (sometimes as little as one item per bag), so I try to bring in my own reuseable bags when I shop. They also have a glass and bottle recycling center, as well! I do have to comment again on how friendly and helpful their staff is! Great store! read more

best supermarket in bangor! after going to some other grocery stores I really appreciate the cleaniness and wide variety of selections from this market. For one, it has a very welcoming presence, it's new, clean, and not cramped. In several instances I saw the manager going out of his way to help customers which is a good sign, and so far I've had great experience with the staff there. read more

Love this supermarket over any other available in the area! Bakery, deli and meats are best for there prices. I know that they have been traditionally viewed as pricey but I think the quality is more the point. Plus they often have weekly deals that make up for any price that maybe viewed as not well! read more

I went to Bangor Shaws today With my daughter and grand daughter Was having a wonderful Mothers Day until I asked to have help with my large grocery order to the car It was raining Three of their people was arguing over who would help they kept going back and forth that they did not want to get wet I said loudly Shaws don't supply you a rain coat they said no. A lot of people heard the commotion Finally I said get me the manager and then my bagger an older lady said shell go out with us. Well, where do I start? It is a decent store and I prefer it over Hannaford. When I lived in Portland, I only shopped at Shaw's. But there are some things I have to gripe about. First of all, the weekly flyer calls for certain items, you get to the store and 1/2 of them are out of stock. Was told to come back tomorrow (just want I want to do is make another trip from outer Ohio St. to outer Main St. again. When at the deli meat counter, you can stand there forever while the workers are holding a conversation with each other or another customer. Today, I just walked away and will buy what I need at Hannaford. Check out is another issue. The cashier scans the items and just throws them to the end of the counter. I get home and chips are crushed, containers are warped, bread is flat, etc etc etc. and don't even get me started on the baggers. I think I have to reconsider my shopping spots from now on. read more
