If you're like me, you probably think "pizza from a liquor store? Are you nuts?" Well get ready to…read moreget crazy, because Liberty Street Beverage makes a great pizza at an excellent price! I paid less than $20 for a 3 topping pie that was GIANT - 20" & some mozzarella sticks. They also sell they dough to go which means they make their own. You'll enjoy the pleasant sweetness in the crust. Some pizza places, you order extra cheese and they don't give you any. Not here, it was piled high. I will say the amount of black olives and mushrooms wasn't overly generous, but it was enough, my family didn't complain. In fact, my picky little nephew are a lot more than he usually does! They also have burgers, hot and cold subs, deli meat, steaks, desserts, and bait! This is really a full service eatery. If you want something, give them a call and they can probably do it. As for booze, if you're on the NY side of the border it's well worth the trip over here to Fair Haven, VT. Lower prices and a better selection than anything in Whitehall (town over the NY side of the border). The price on the whisky sour mix was a bit high but the liquor prices were good. They had this Vermont maple bourbon that my mom loves and is hard to find. Great timing for her birthday! On top of all that, the service is very friendly! I'm not a familiar face but was treated as well as anyone else, this doesn't happen in every small town as I've unfortunately experienced at another pizza shop in the area. In fact, they offered to carry the pizza to my car as my hands were pretty full with booze! I've found my new "go-to" for my pizza and liquor needs when I'm up here. Hopefully you stop by and experience Liberty Street Beverage for yourself. It's a lot more than beverages, and you'll end your night well satiated AND (if you choose) inebriated!

My girlfriend described it as a "poor man's Costco" and it is sort of like that. It's a restaurant supply/food service company that so happens to have an "open to the public" retail operation as well. You'll find meats, seafood (including live lobster), produce, GIANT containers of mustard, ketchup, hot sauce, olive oil, you name it. They've also got plants/flowers for sale outside in the front. Inside also contains bread, milk, cheese, really all of the "essentials." In a pinch they do sell single rolls of toilet paper like you'll find in a hotel, and paper towels. They have some kitchen utensils if you're in need. Hell, I picked up a bottle of windshield washer fluid here too. Added bonus: they carry nuns of new skete cheesecake! If you aren't familiar with this, google it. It's made by local nuns and is delicious, puts Sysco to shame. $36 for a 4 lb cake. If they don't carry something here that you need, you can find it the dollar general or CVS that's right down the street. Despite not being anywhere near a full service grocery store, Green Mountain Food Service's store is a godsend for the depressed town of Whitehall. Remember to bring cash, or if you're someone who pays by check (how many people do that anymore?) you're covered. Same with EBT, that is accepted. GMFS does NOT accept credit or debit cards. There is an ATM and a restroom on site. Hours are 8 am to 5 pm Monday-Saturday. The store is closed on Sunday.

It might be that small town New England feel to it, where everyone in town knows each other, as indicated by the cashiers always so friendly and striking up meaningful small talk with all their customers. Catch us Middlebury College students here often for buying food for when the school doesn't feed us (Thanksgiving 2015 was my first one without family but still only my second most miserable Thanksgiving...) or when their overpriced student stores don't stock what we need (especially fruit). Thank goodness this place is around, it is definitely a supermarket. I always get worried when these small towns try to support local businesses as much as possible, but thankfully this supermarket chain is around. (Local businesses are definitely a good thing though! I know I sound awful, forgive me!) It seems that Middlebury town has what I need for the most part. I have so many memories already with this market. It's closer than Hannaford's, so best bet I'm never going there by foot when I can come here.
