This place continues to decline. I order my food for delivery. 3 DIFFERENT times had to throw out baked potatoes. You cook them, open them and find a massive black spot in the potato. I always ask them to choose the longest to expiry and often say if product does not have 3 weeks on it, i do not want it. June 28- The eggs in a carton with a hole in an egg, placed in a paper bag -no cellaphane around the carton and food on top of the raw eggs in the same bag. 5 yogurts that say use by July 4, when I said less than 2-3 weeks I do not want them. Delivery direction, I ask them to call when you arrive and leave food at front, door. Today, delivered to back door, no call. The quality has gone down and the people don't bother to look for what you asked for or call to tell you. Roche brothers is more expensive, but the quality of their food and their service is superior. ps- the Shaws website is also not easy to use. One star and that is being generous. read more

If I could leave a negative star I would!!! Missing items with my delivery service multiple times... Friday August 18th the store APPARENTLY had a power problem. I received ONE email that said my order was RUNNING LATE. IT NEVER ARRIVED. I went out of town and husband that does not have the app or account info was PISSED!!! I WAS PISSED I WAS CHARGED FOR THE ORDER AND DELIVERY AND IT IS STILL ON MY BANK ACCOUNT. After speaking with the USELESS person at the store, who told I could have RESCHEDULED......what part of this story do u not understand???? DO NOT SHOP AT THIS RUDE AND RIDICULOUS STORE. Stopped in here to grab a few necessities for home. I was actually surprised at how big this store was. It was clean and there were was no lines at the checkout. Wasn't happy with the service at the Deli Counter. Alter being ignored for at least five minutes, a couple of employees suddenly appeared through the prep area. Someone appeared to be unhappy to be at work and the service suffered because of it. read more

Edit: changing from two star to one star because of the company's absolutely trash response, which you can read below. Dismissive, diminishes my concerns, and implies I'm lying. Gee, never seen a massive corporation wave off the concerns of those they exploit before. I love shopping at this Shaws. (For the most part-old guy in seafood is always hella rude). So, when I-a full-time homemaker-decided I'd like a part-time job a few days a week, I decided to apply. Hey, this store is clean, well-organized, and has a great product selection. I also used to be an instacart shopper in this store, so I already know where everything is. I just want other people to know why they're so short-staffed and why people don't want to work there. I quit after literally one shift. I've never done that before in my life. It was THAT bad. And I want customers to know what kind of store they are supporting when they go there. In all honesty, I'll probably still shop there from time to time, but I'm very disgusted with how they treat their workers and will try to shop elsewhere when I can. Why I quit after 1 day: -This store does not give lunch breaks. When we talked about my hours in orientation (6am-2:30pm), the HR lady seemed surprised that I expected a lunch break. She told me I could have one "if I wanted" which is a very odd thing to say considering Massachusetts legally requires lunch breaks to be given after 6 hours. Like...I'm supposed to eat breakfast at 5 am and then not eat a meal again until 3? Do they know that people with diabetes and other medical conditions exist? My body can not go that long without eating. I have literally passed out and had medical issues at past retail jobs where the culture is not to take lunch breaks. I'm not doing all that again. So, I was already nervous when the HR lady seemed so surprised by my mention of a lunch break. My first day I worked a training shift of 8am-2:30 pm. I was sent on a 15 minute break. When I asked about a lunch break, I was told I wouldn't be getting one. I did not see any other associates working with me take a lunch break. This was on a slow day. There were hours of me standing around looking for stuff to do. Tell me why I had to go through half my shift woozy? The culture at this store is not to give lunch breaks and it is a violation of Massachusetts state labor law. -They don't allow cashiers to keep water at the register. You know...water? The thing we all need to live? I was sent out to collect carts in 95 degree weather (I worked in August). I was sweating and thirsty when I came back in. One of the cashiers who worked with me asked the service desk if they had any water. Service desk lady shrugged and said she didn't have any. So, people are supposed to work 7-8 hours and only get maybe 2 opportunities to drink water? Even if they've done manual labor in the heat? Edit: as you can see by the company's trash response below, upper leadership believes this is acceptable and that an opportunity to drink water twice in seven hours is fine. They have a whole stupid video on avoiding heat sickness, but as you can see by the company's response, they see nothing unacceptable about workers doing manual labor in the heat without any chance to drink water after. Look at their comment: "Cashiers can have water bottles and access to water ON THEIR BREAKS." I was sent out to do manual labor in 95 degree weather AFTER my one 15 minute break of the day. Meaning that I did not have any opportunity to drink water until my shift ended two hours later. And management finds this acceptable, apparently. In their whole "avoiding heat sickness" video training, they stress the importance of drinking several cups of water per hour. Obviously, they only have that training to cover their butts legally. As you can see by the company response below, they do not actually believe associates should have regular access to water, but only on their breaks, even if they have been working in the heat. I have taken a screen shot of this hypocrisy. If you've been to this store and noticed it's short-staffed, this is why. Cashiers deserve meal breaks and access to water. I can't believe that needs to be said in 2022. That is why I quit after only one shift and I am very glad I did. I became pregnant barely two weeks after quitting. Continuing to work in an environment with no meal breaks or access to water for hours would have put the life of my baby at risk. read more

Last Friday the 29th, I needed sliced Italian bread for a family gathering. Went to the bakery to get it sliced and it looked like a male gang member standing at the big silver table reading a piece of paper. They had a black hooded sweatshirt with the hood up and a black mask, all you could see was their eyes. I thought maybe they didn't work there since I stood there for over 5 minutes waiting and being ignored(maintenance or repair guy?). Finally cleared my throat loudly to get their attention so maybe they could get me some assistance, and when the person finally turned around turns out it was a woman! There was no visible indication/uniform that they worked there until she turned around and I saw a name tag which was the only thing that showed she worked there, it said Carol? or Carolyn I believe? I asked for the bread to be sliced and she was rude like I took her away from something pressing. I stood there again for another 5 or so minutes before she finally brought the bread back. She just handed it to me, I said thank you and she didn't say a word, no you're welcome, no have a good day, NOTHING. And then went back to staring at the piece of paper on the table. I don't know if this woman is a regular bakery employee or just a fill in? But WOW, worst appearance for a store employee and worst customer service ever! Took me almost 15 minutes just to get some bread sliced and to get attitude. UNREAL. read more

The 3 day weekend specials are great. If you shop the sale items you will get good deals. The regular price items are on the high side. The store is alway clean, the produce section is always stocked with a wide variety. The biggest draw back is they never have enough cashiers. read more

I swear the young man who was the check-out guy tonight (february '23) was on drugs. I greeted him with a "hello, how are you" and he looked at me like I had 2 heads, said nothing back. I gave him a hundred dollar bill. He in turn just gave me a wad of bills back. I should have stopped and counted it right there but a mile up the street, I pulled into a bank parking lot, counted it out and realized he short-changed me by $20. I headed back to the store and waited in line for customer service, told the young woman my story , had to wait a good half hour after she did what she had to do and refunded me the 20 bucks. She apologized but the stupid kid who made the error just passed me a dopey and blank stare. What is with these idiots today that can't even count out the correct change . I can't even imagine how this dope would have even interviewed well for the job. This Shaws is in a rough section and the help sure fits in. Fed up and shopping elsewhere. read more

I was a regular shopper here for about 2 years, then one day I went in and as I was leaving I was confronted by police officers who informed me that an employee had baselessly accused me of shoplifting with no justification whatsoever. After spending about half an hour being questioned, searched, and otherwise publicly humiliated in the front area of the store I was allowed to leave, as there was no evidence (on surveillance video, physically, or otherwise) that anything had been stolen. Instead of receiving an apology, I was told that I was banned from the store for unexplained reasons, aside from the employee apparently harboring some delusional dislike of me. I did try to reach out to Shaw's online and was ignored. Suffice to say, I don't shop at any Shaw's locations anymore, and unless you feel like being treated like garbage for no reason, you'd do well to avoid it too. read more

Now it is "store" policy...only in Shrewsbury that you bag your own groceries if you bring in your reusable bags. First they use paper bags that rip as soon as you pick them up. So you buy Shaws bags. I was under the impression you could use your own bags now. Yes they are cleaned after each use. But Shrewsbury store now makes you bag your own groceries after you have purchased THEIR bags. They should pay us for using our purchased Shaws bags. Not going back. read more

This store is not great, but it's also not bad. I don't mind shopping in here for a small grocery list, but don't think I will do big shopping lists here. I just find that the placements of the aisles are kinda odd. The bread section is where the cheese, juice, milk, and egg refrigerators are. The napkin aisle seem to just be randomly placed in the weirdest spot. Idk the whole set up of the store just kind of seems a little unorthodox to me. This Shaws is totally old school, not clean, runs out of produce has NO SELF CHECKOUT. TOTALLY BEHIND THE TIMES ... it meeds a face lift, the Worcester Shaws is far better! I was looking for a product yesterday that I was told this store carried. I called at 7pm and the phone rang for 3 minutes straight without even a voice recording. I went out of my way to go here in person for the product and there are one each of 2 flavors left. Despite the shelves being almost empty, I decide that since I drive all this way, I will grab one despite it not being the one I am looking for. I get to the front and there are 4 people in the express checkout, but the cashier turns off her light and says we all need to go to either resister 2 or 5 (both of which have lines 3 deep of people with full grocery carts). I looked for a self checkout and there is none. I looked to see if customer service is open to ring up my one item, but there is a closed sign (I guess that explains no one answering the phone). It was not worth it to wait 10-15 minutes in line so I just left. Needless to say I will never be going back here. If this store is open for another year I will be amazed. What horrible staffing and customer service. Not to mention I have a similar experience regardless of what Shaw's I go into. Disappointing customer experience every time. Save your time and go to wegmans. read more
