todays visit was the last for me. They have always been my last resort because their prices are ridiculous - way to take advantage of your neighbors just because there is no other option within 15 miles. Today, knowing it would cost me triple to shop there, i wanted to split the cost across two different cards. The only available registers were the self-check out (read "do their work for them but dont get a discount" registers). When i tried to pay it would not let me split between cards. When i asked the milling-around staff member, he said that isn't allowed at the self-check out, even tho I'd had no choice to use a different register. I will not go again. After finding the first aisle labeled chips - I found it very odd that the selection was so small and almost non-existent On the way out we realized there was a full aisle of chips by the beer... Their policy is to give you plastic bags unless you stop them and ask for paper. I re-bagged my groceries in paper and put the plastic in the bin they use to pretend that plastic bags get recycled, so they lose money on this garbage policy. read more

This store really sucks. The shelves are always empty, and you can see they have what you want in the back. But if you ask someone to get it for you ,they just walk away and ignore you. I have been there 3 times this week and still can not get what i need.The people that work there are mostly rude and ignorant.It is the only store in the area , Its a shame that they allow it to be so bad.If i was younger i would open a store, and for sure run them out of business. Sadly, it wouldn't let me give no stars! So no, they get no star from me! I walked in and asked if they had any scooter, as my momcsnnot walk. They were like, what's a scooter? I said, you know those things handicapped people,drive around in stores. The girl said, I have no clue. I said can you find out? She said no but you can walk over to the service desk yourself and find out. Really? So we found one, half way through the store it died! How was my mom even going to get back outside to the car? By far the worst grocery store I've ever been to. No food, staff is rude, and place is a pig sty. Try to avoid at all costs.

We shop here as a last resort. Seriously, if you need groceries continue onto Keene or Swansea NH, and hit up Market Basket. The last two times I bought meat at Shaws in Walpole, I ended up throwing it out. Chicken I bought had the weirdest texture to it, and ground beef was filled with chipped bone. Prices are ridiculously high, staff are too busy fooling around with each other to provide any real help if you should need it. read more

I wrote earlier about my experience with a particular cashier and how rude he was - to the point of being completly unsettling. Someone from the main company responded immediately, which was a pleasant surprise. I removed my post because I felt the message got to who it needed to reach. So why am I writing again. Because - well one is I cannot get this experience out of my mind whenever I have to go into the store (although I look for other options), and also I feel that if I remove my review what changes will they make. So I will not add the cashiers name as I did earlier, but hope the kind words in their previous response is carried out where customers do not have to feel like they are bothering the employees just for being there. I will add that when I walk in I always look to see if that cashier is there and will make sure I avoid his line no matter how long I have to wait. read more

I happen to like this little grocery store. Mainly because it is small and I don't feel like I have to go through a football field to find the simplest of items. Over the years they have improved their aisles but there are some odd spots in the store. I am a vegetarian so I do not buy meat there, but they do have a great organic, albeit small selection of vegetables and fruit. They are very helpful at the information desk especially if you're asking for them to carry a certain item they generally will order that item for you. At least they did for me which I did appreciate. Someone made a comment about having two chip aisles. One section near the front of the store carries organic choices, and the main stream chips are buy the beer and wine section. I live in the area and find it a nice alternative to the oversized supermarket like Hannaford's which is also very high priced. It's a great place if you just wanna drop in pick up a few things and go! read more

Do not shop here! Having been on both sides here at Shaw's, as an employee and as a customer, neither would get anything more than the lowest rating possible. As an employee, I was looking for some part-time work. Gave them my schedule of my full-time job to work around yet they continued to schedule me during my full time hours. Never trained me or even ordered me a shirt that fit. Just found one lying around and gave that one to me. When I would approach them concerning my hours getting cut, I was told I was being "punished" because I had missed so much work - the time I was working my full-time job. IDIOTS! As a customer, good luck when it comes time to checking out. The cashiers for the most part aren't trained or have no idea how to do certain tasks. I wrote a check and asked how much I could write it over for some cash back - got three different answers. IDIOTS! Only to write the check and have them tell me they have a new system and it won't let me write for anything over than the exact amount. Not to mention you stand in line so long you hope there's a ride at the end of it - nope, just an inept cashier. Do yourself a favor, avoid this place. I keep praying they will tear it down and put a Market Basket in here instead. One can hope. read more

No one wanted to help us, I asked a guy a question- he grumbled and disappeared in the back. I guess if you NEED something it's fine, but it's in a serious need of a face lift and some reorganizing. None of the staff was very friendly or attentive for how small of a place this is. read more

This was probably the most disgusting grocery experience of my life. There was no trash can to be found upon walking in. The bathrooms are in the inventory room that's darker than night with the lights off. The store is beyond uncleanly. The aisles have so much stuff in the middle of them between product shelves in the middle of the aisles and product that is on a cart that was attempted to be put away but was abandoned eons ago. The meat section is limited, the hamburger meat quality is only 80-85% lean. They do have a large selection of beer if you want variety. The employees are clueless when you ask where things are. I asked one worker where the spices where and she looked at me baffled and asked me "are they in aisle 6?" If I knew I wouldn't be asking and mind you they were in the aisle she was stocking shelves in. The cashiers don't even say hello or have a good day. Plain rude. I am happy I don't live anywhere near this location. I would rather starve than come here again. read more

I like this store, is it perfect, no, but they have everything I need and contrary to what other reviewers have alleged it is not dirty. The staff have always been helpful and polite to me, but then I'm not the type of person who uses the words "brain dead" "dumb ass" to describe people. I tried shopping at Hannafords, because that's where I pick up my prescriptions, their meat is not as good as I bought locally at Shaws, and afterward I felt like I had run a marathon - way too big. One tip, avoid the vacuum packed lamb, it never survives the trip from Australia. read more

Recently shopped at Shaws and was pleasantly surprised at the changes that have been made. In the past, it was always a little slow to change. Didn't have the variety of foods like Market Basket, or even Hannafords. Could never find the prices listed on the produce. (But the cashiers were always polite and friendly, to me at least.) It used to be my last choice of places to shop. They still have a long way to go, but they're making changes, like offering antibiotic free meats and dairy products, organic produce, and better breads, things like that. read more

A true craphole. Dirty, limited meat and produce and they run out of EVERYTHING! Manager is a turd burger who, despite numerous requests not to run out of something....NEVER ORDERS ENOUGH!!!!! True test is the cleanliness of their rest rooms....DISGUSTING!!!!! Stay away if you value your health!!!!!! UPDATE: Despite promising myself never to enter this store again, I needed one item....seltzer....so I stopped in. As usual, not enough cashiers and long lines. As I was heading for checkout, I noticed the service desk had just finished a checkout so I walked up. The nitwit dopey girl working it says to me..."I'm going to take someone that's been waiting in line"... and called over another customer who was a bit dumbfounded that he was being put in front of me. He said as much to the dopey brain-dead cashier but she just continued to ring him up. I had one item and he had over a dozen.....pissed off, I moved to another checkout line so as to be away from the dumbass cashier. As the customer who was told to get ahead of me in line passed by on his way out, he just looked at me and shook his head...."I can't believe she did that" he says. To make matters worse, I'm pretty sure this numbskull working the service desk is either a lead cashier or some sort of mini-boss. Shaws in Walpole, NH sucks, plain and simple!
