I don't find the meat to be impressive in this store. I don't find the seafood to be exceptionally fresh, it smells too fishy and rule of thumb is fish should not have a pungent smell. The prices of regular items is not competitive with Market Basket for the same basic staples. Only positives I can find are: Product is decent and better quality than Market Basket on a regular basis. The sale items are incredible if it is an item you are seeking. Purchased a six pack of bottled 7-up yesterday. Opened two of them today - both COMPLETELY flat! No fizz whatsoever. This isn't the first time I've made purchases from this store only to find out later it is past its freshness, stale or old. Buyer beware at this place. read more

Unfortunately I had to give this 1 star, if I could I would give it a minus 5. This is in regards to the pickup orders. I have never been so angry, and no they don't do anything to resolve the issue. This is NOT the first time either, I thought I would give them another chance hoping they improved but I was sadly wrong. I placed an order and I received a text saying they started shopping, about 5 minutes into it I received a text saying they were out of an item and press here to chat. I pressed the button and received a text saying my order was complete. It was less than 2 minutes and I have the time log to prove it. Therefore there was no way to pick another item. I am not upset that an item was out of stock, I was more upset that when I call and spoke with them he blamed the computer, told me that it wasn't the fault of anyone it was the computer. People place orders online to pick up for many reasons most of them because they physically cannot get into the store to shop for themselves. We pay extra for this service and expect some sort of communication when you need a specific item and need to chat with that shopper. Nope nothing from Shaws of course it's not their fault it was the customer that was wrong. So basically if you are unable physically to go into the store and need to pick up items go to Hannafords instead. Their customer service is better and they are willing to help the consumer. My husband purchased a rotisserie pre-cooked (bagged) chicken last weekend. We decided to have this for dinner. I had purchased one previously and it was cooked to perfection and delicious. I noticed this one was a little larger than usual and the sides weren't browned up as they should be. When I went to cut the chicken, it was all pink near the legs. What a horrible turn-off! We heated it up for 45 minutes and still it wasn't cooked through. By then, we were disgusted by the experience and threw it out. The next day, I contacted Shaw's Deli Department and was informed that they cook the chickens for 2 hours in-house. The woman said that she'd leave a note for the workers who handle this task. Today I went to see if the problem was corrected, and it has not been corrected. The chickens are out there looking raw on the sides, and they are not fully browned. For starters, Shaw's, you shouldn't place rotisserie chickens so tight together that the sides can't get any heat to cook them all the way through. Secondly, 2 hours of cooking time is hardly enough time if you're shoving more than what's supposed to be cooking on that rotisserie. If the chickens are larger (as they've been lately), then you need to bump up that cooking time. Shaw's, raw chicken is gross and unacceptable. Your chickens are a turn off. Send your employees to culinary school to learn how to properly cook chicken on a rotisserie or train them yourselves. When cooking many chickens simultaneously, depending on size and weight, you need much longer than 2 hours and you must leave room for the sides to cook! Yuck!! read more

Donna the "no bagger" is probably one of the rudest people I've come across at any grocery store. The minute I have all of my groceries up on the belt she looks at me and goes "I do not bag groceries" and then continues to be unhelpful and impolite the entire time. As I'm leaving the check out line, the woman at the end who noticeably is embarrassed and made it a point to be polite and bag my groceries says "sorry for her bitchiness" LOL read more

I shop here a lot because it is close to my house. But it is very expensive. Most of the products I buy there are fine. But the one thing that is really starting to bother me is their fruit. Their fruit goes bad quickly. This has happened to me many times with grapes, cuties, heads of lettuce and cucumbers. This is the 2nd time in 8 days I have bought and had to throw away red seedless grapes. I spent like $6.68 on these grapes on Wednesday and today is Friday morning and they are covered in spores in white mold patches. read more

Awful store. I drive 30-40 minutes away to avoid this store. The staff is a collection of jealous individuals, who are angry that they work in a nice town. They intentionally crush your groceries, and waste your time, because they have nothing better to do. It is sad that this is the only large grocery store in Windham. read more

This grocery store is very unpleasant in so many ways. The reason I even go in sometimes is because it is on my way home from work. The main problem is the miserable people that work there. No smiles, not helpful, not friendly, and generally angry. There is one cashier that always has a snarky comment about what im buying. If I buy something organic, she will ask me how it tastes then say she will never be able to afford it. If I buy wine, again she asks how it tastes then say she has a job and isnt lucky enough to have time to drink wine like I do. First of all, I work over 60 hours a week, second it's not my fault you are miserable . Just outright rude , obviously poorly trained and poorly managed employees. But its on my way home, and they have food in case I need something in a hurry. I would love for them to shut down and put a whole foods there! read more

Still way too overpriced, with so many items that are past sale date, but I'll give it this: You can buy cold beers at a good price, often, and cold wines and Prosecco at a pretty good price when you want them. The alternative NH Liquor Store in Pelham is abysmal, and the one in Salem is pretty far away with all of the road construction on 28, so...for this purpose, and for the quick stop for milk or other overpriced "I need that one thing" stops, it fits the need. But, oh gosh, don't shop here for real weekly shopping! Maybe only for the sales...never mind, it's never anything you really need or want! read more

Background: I went into the Windham NH location around 3:30PM yesterday for a variety of grocery items. Most importantly, I was intending to get lobsters for a 75th birthday party we were having at the house yesterday afternoon. When I arrived at the seafood counter, nobody was available and the sign said to go to the meat counter to request service. The individual in line before me already contacted the meat counter and was sending someone. A staff (woman in her 50-60's with glasses and blonde hair) finally came to the counter and began openly complaining how she had a 9 hour day and couldn't even have time for a proper break, which was meant to insinuate that our request for seafood was impeding on her break. The gentleman before me then asked for three lobsters. In a very rude way, the staff highlighted to the man she could not steam them for him because there were too many orders ahead and she didn't have time (even though the advertisement said "steamed" lobsters). The other gentleman was annoyed, but asked her to give the lobsters to him live instead. As the woman was heading to the lobster tank, I mentioned to her that I also planned to get lobsters as well in case it helped her. She then snapped at me and said "one order at a time, sir!", to which I became very annoyed. The other man looked at me in disbelief at what we just saw. I explained I was only trying to make things easier on her, but she did not apologize, nor look up from the tank. After they left, I could see that the other gentleman's wife was very upset that the staff would not steam the lobsters for him. I was then asked for my order, to which I asked for seven lobsters. The woman informed me that the limit is 4 and she couldn't help me. She said I would need to come back with someone else if I wanted more than four. She pointed at all of the rest of the lobsters in the tank (30+ lobsters) and scolded me by saying I would be taking lobsters away from other customers (to which there was nobody even near the seafood counter waiting). I looked at the sign and in small print at the bottom of the card it stated limit 4 (apparently there was a sale for $5.99/lb on 4 lobsters). Dumbfounded, I asked her what to do since I had family arriving at the house expecting me to bring home lobsters. She said she could not help me and that I should go seek out the store manager. At this point, I wanted nothing to do with the woman, or the store, as I was completely fed up. I left my entire shopping cart with over $100 of other grocery items in the center of the store and promptly walked out to my car. I then drove directly to Market Basket down the street. On the drive to Market Basket, I called the seafood counter and spoke to a very nice gentleman and asked if they had lobsters. He informed me that their regular price was $5.99/lb (with no limit) and that they will steam them while I wait. Summary: Long story short, we had a very pleasant evening celebrating a birthday on our patio with freshly cooked lobsters, with no help from Shaws in Windham NH or the woman at the seafood counter. My family and I will not being coming back to this location again. I unfortunately will also hesitate going back to any Shaws locations again unless I hear how their management intends to improve their customer service experience. read more

We just moved in down the street. The location is great so we kept going even though prices were HIGH. Then I noticed multiple times I bought food of all kinds well past their use by dates. Also meat that smelled horrible a week before it was supposed to be sold by As if it was never refrigerated at the store. I posted to the windham fb page aboutbit and over 70 people had the same stories. Ill drive many miles out of my way to go to lower priced better stocked and non rotten Market Basket. read more

Beware, *every* time I shop here, many items that are sale priced do not actually ring up at the sale price!!!! This is very deceptive (and illegal I believe). By far the most well-run grocery store in the area. Produce is always good, staff is friendly and attentive. I have done quite a bit of hostessing - and had the bakery make up cookie/fruit bread trays, as well as purchased many deli-prepared trays. They do a great job and everything has always been ready for pickup at the promised time. To top it off - parking is always great, there is never a pile up of carriages and they have disinfectant for use. I'm glad people are complaining about price and it keeps them away. I always save TIME at Shaw's, and don't have to fight for a parking space or wait 15 minutes in line at the checkout. read more

I only come to this place if I want to avoid the craziness of Market Basket in Salem and need food. This is place is terrible though for having more cashiers and not enough baggers! No wonder the cashiers are miserable, you have one or two people bagging groceries and these aren't express lanes! These are customers buying carts full of groceries! This was on a Sunday too! Many customers end up helping to bag even though we shouldn't have to because it's not our job! Really what kind of grocery store does that? You are better off having less registers open and having a bagger at each one just like Market Basket with exception of the express lanes. It's ridiculous read more

Absolutely horrible supermarket. Not enough people working here. They only open 1 or 2 registers and you end up having to wait in line for a long time. Also, if you do shop here, check the expiration dates of items before you buy them. Sometimes and item is on the shelf even though it is expired or will expire in a few days. On a more positive note, the employees they do have are nice. They usually apologize for the delay if they don't have enough registers open. read more

I've never been to this store before, but it's right off I-93 and I decided to stop today to pick up a few things. I made the mistake of needing to use the rest room: absolutely filthy. This is the worst store in the world. Continually out of product, long lines, and today, I got over charged buying 2 giftcards and they wouldn't give me a refund because they didn't know how. In addition, the giftcards were'nt activated, and it was just from luck I realized it. I was sending them as Christmas gifts. I brought in my bank statements showing I had been charged 3 times for 2 giftcards, and they said they didn't know how to give me a refund. Also, they are continually out of product, their fish is not fresh and they are very over priced. Stay away and go to Hannaford or Market Basket. read more

It's like shopping in a ghost town i honestly dont know how they stay in business. The prices are absurd. Many sale items are still more $ than competitors regular prices. Have been several times where I couldnt buy milk because everything on the shelf was out of date. Produce is sketchy as it doesnt move fast enough to get "re-stocked". The cashiers are nice. Lines are never an issue since no one is ever there. If you have a question while shopping finding someone on the floor to help you is difficult. I only shop here out of desperation. read more

Compared with other Shaw's I know, this one is not well stocked. For example: it has only half of sauces others have. They also suddenly discontinued carrying one of my favorite ice cream brands, which can b found anywhere else and they replaced various brands of other products with their own inferior brand. Young staff there is indifferent and pays no attention at checkout communication either, talking with coleagues instead. The older ones at deli are nicer and polite. Shelves are not filled on time and look messy Veggies and fruit are often not fresh and overripe. Bread availability and staffing at bread counter is very irreguar. The other day an employee told me I may have to wait days fr baguettes to be available again. Same with liverwurst, while it turned out to be untrue. Also, if bread is not ready, so baked off, they will sell the same bread to you without any discount for lack of being finshed. It is never busy there, which is no surprise. read more
