Where do I even start? I rescued my Jack Chi (Jack Russel / Chiucaaua) late Aug 2018 and immediately knew I wanted to enroll a trainer into the process of us getting settled. (*Not because my dog was horrible, simply because while I had grown up with dogs, I had never trained a dog) After searching for several other dog trainers and having a quick call with Shay I knew she was the one. 48 Hrs later Shay met Benton and I, my rescue, at my house to go over the basic commands of sit, stay, etc. Benton as a rescue was extremely nervous and apprehensive. Shay was kind, sensitive, yet authoritative and immediately knew what to do -my very active bred was starting to come out of his very submissive shell. While we worked on all the basics, I as a new "dog mom" wanted more when it came to socialization, so Shay agreed to meet me for an afternoon walk (to see how Benton did on leash) and for a trip to the dog park. I was absolutely astounded that our dog trainer would see my outside my house and work where and when it was best for my dog. Shay just got that environment is everything and was so willing to asses Benton beyond our home. So off we went to the dog park and on a long walk where we ran into other dogs - not only did Shay explain general dog behavior to me but the insight she shared on Benton's direct behavior was invaluable. I was learning why my dog shyed away, didn't want to walk and became submissive in a matter of 15 minutes (Money worth spent right there) Shay simply deconstructed my dog's behavior - (In terms of where he was then) in a matter of minutes. AND -- here's the kicker and something that attests heavily to Shay's integrity, when I tried to schedule subsequent sessions after our first 2 meetings - Shay denied them ... Her statement --- "This isn't your dog, not yet, this is a version of your dog, but via his bread and the fact that he is a rescue ... you haven't even begun to see his personality - don't call me for 30 more days" ---- That could be taken as a harsh statement. OR that could be taken as a comment from someone who has integrity, knows, and gets it as Shay does. Had my first training today with Shay. Amazing!!! I have 4 GSDs and she was able to keep them in control as soon as she walked in the room. She spoke in terminology I could relate too. Shay is a wealth of knowledge and gave me the tools to get my anxious 11 month old Portuguese water dog walking outside more confidently. She gets frozen and we often can't get around the block. Let me start by saying that I did a lot of research to find a reputable, effective, and fair-priced trainer to come to my home and help provide behavior modification for my two dogs. I called Shay last week and was greeted with a thorough consultation, explanation of her techniques, and a quote for how much she charges. I asked how many sessions she anticipated us needing (dreading the typical multi-week long "programs" that cost $$$$) and to my surprise, she answered confidently that she usually only needs to come ONCE. She then brought her dog in and while he frenzy lasted a few moments she got our dog in check so quickly. My boyfriend and I literally stood there with jaws dropped, it was a MIRACLE! Our Corgi/Lab/Pitt mix Panda is an amazing dog, but has a lot of issues (one of which culminated in our dog attacking my mom's dog) and that's why I called Shay. I had previously worked with a trainer at the Zoom Room who inadvertently taught her that barking gets rewarded with treats and attention, so I was really skeptical of dog trainers in general. So I reached out to Shay and texted her a photo of our dog and why we need help. Shay called me back, but I was teaching, so she left a voicemail that taught me more in a minute and a half of listening than I have with any other trainer or google. She explained what she noticed about Panda's body language, head position, ears, and general look in her eye. I hadn't even agreed to work with her or pay her yet and she was offering us guidance and help. That's when I knew Shay was meant for us. She cares deeply about bringing understanding to our relationships with our dogs and shows us how to communicate in ways they understand. Our dog is a major jumper and licker and when Shay walked in the door I tried to correct her behavior with no success. Shay has absolutely CHANGED my life; I am not being hyperbolic. My partner and I have a 4 year old rescue mix named Ruthie - Chihuahua and mini-poodle but she really reads as a terrier. Shay is amazing -- she has given me some kind of superpower. In one session, she had my two newly adopted dogs stop barking, stop whining, stop trying to escape out the door, and stop trying to get on the treadmill with me. And it was all me! I felt so powerful after she left, and it wasn't a dominant, alpha kind of powerful. Instead, she taught me dogspeak. Shay's problem-solving approach involves understanding how dogs translate body language. She is helping me understand the dogs, and the dogs understand me. She uses great analogies in explaining things, so I was learning and understanding what she was doing. We recently adopted two tiny senior dogs. They are sweet, adorable, and easy to love, but have some annoying or unsafe habits. I'm so glad that I took the plunge and gave her a try. I think this may be the first review I've ever written but it was from reading a review that I found Shay and so I want to pay it forward. I had recently taken in a small foster dog that I wanted to adopt. He was sweet as pie to me but awful to strangers and even other dogs. For a tiny fellow he seemed way to aggressive and honestly I didn't know if I had it in me to have to deal with that forever. We've all seen those little dogs that go ballistic when anyone comes near them. So I started googling training. There are so many options out there and I was getting so confused. Did I really need to send him to a $3500 behavior bootcamp where they take him away for 4 weeks? That seemed so extreme (and expensive!). Then I saw Shay's ad and read the reviews. I didn't think it would work but I thought it was worth a try. I contacted Shay pretty late in the evening and figured I would hear back in a few days. To my surprise she got right back to me and we messaged back and forth for a bit. She started consulting right away and I immediately felt better. The next day we had a phone consult where she asked a ton of questions and gave me some solid advice (for free!). It was amazing. I arranged to have her come over and she did a session with me, my niece and our little foster. I could not believe my eyes. It was like a secret was unlocked. We only needed one session for her to teach me how to go about Eddie's potty Training, and thats all he needed. I was able to correct what I was doing, and Eddie responded to that immediately. I am proud to say Eddie has been accident free! I decided to give Shay a try this past winter even though it seemed like she had some mixed reviews on Yelp. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Shay to anyone out there who has issues with their dog/s. I mean ANY issues. I have four dogs, two pit mixes and two Chihuahua mixes. All of which are rescues. Each of my dogs had a unique behavior I wanted to be able to fix. Everything from not killing my chickens to getting out of the damn swimming pool when I asked them to. I have to assume the bad reviews posted here previously are more people problems than anything to do with Shay or her abilities. As anyone who is in customer service knows there are weirdoes out there that are never satisfied, no matter what. I felt compelled to write this review because of the absolutely outstanding customer service that I received. I did not encounter a single issue. Shay was available by phone both of the times I called her to ask a few questions. She always arrived early and answered every one of my questions. During each of our sessions I was shocked how small changes on my part equaled HUGE changes in my dogs behavior. After our second training session I felt much more in control. I felt like I had the knowledge to make corrective actions before my dog actually did something bad. I think Shay should maybe change the name of her business to be people training because (I have recently learned) that is what dog training is really about right. I think it boils down to this... if you are open minded and willing to listen to the advice of a professional you will have no problems. If you are the kind of person who asks a professional a question, then proceeds to answer your own question, then I imagine you have bigger issues then dog training. read more

ms. shay is one of the best, most genuine people i have ever met. i have a chug (chihuahua pug) that use to non stop yap around other dogs. she was extremely reactive around other dogs and always got riled up because she didn't have proper socialization growing up. in one session she was walking side by side with her own german Shepard zora!! giving me the confidence me and my dog needed to over come her problem. shay explains her techniques in language that you specifically understand instead of a bunch of mumbo jumbo nonsense! and now my dog is getting along just fine with other pups in the neighborhood (she even has a boyfriend lol). in conclusion ms shay is one of the sweetest realest humans you will ever meet and has a passion for you and your pup to succeed in your journey. much love and respect for ms shay read more
