He can't use it and I can't even get hold of anyone from the organization to refund (or give an explanation--did they go broke and steal my money? I have no idea). Hopefully they will respond to this message, or one of the emails I sent them, or the Instagram DM I sent them, or the message I sent to the Guilford Art Center where one of the blacksmiths seems to have moved, so we can resolve this matter out of the courts. read more

OMG. Everything hurts. EVERYTHING HURTS!!! But that class was awesome. Ron is an amazing instructor. There were 7 of us and we still all got plenty of 1 on 1 instruction. He wouldn't let me use the blood of my enemies to treat the metal, but you win some you lose some. read more

I received the one day knife making class from my husband as a birthday gift. Give that man 5 stars for a fantastic gift. What a great day at She-Weld. I got to make a practice S hook followed by a knife from a railroad spike. It was amazing to see what I was able to accomplish in just one day. Marsha was great...very detailed in her instructions and helping throughout the class. Despite never getting closer to this kind of experience other than watching Forged in Fire on TV I think I'm ready to make knives when the apocalypse comes. My girlfriend bought me the Damascus knife making class taught by Master Blacksmith Charlie Cooper back in November 2016. It was totally awesome! Easily some of the most fun I've ever had. Charlie was an excellent teacher, both knowledgeable and helpful when asked. Otherwise he left us to figure stuff out, which I appreciated. Marsha Trattner (the owner of She-Weld) was also really sweet and gave use a brief lesson on the science behind welding and how to properly hammer metal (it's trickier than I thought). I was blistered and exhausted by the end of the 6+ hours I was there, but completely satisfied with everything that I learned. If my schedule allowed it, I wouldn't have waited so long to take another class, but I've already signed up to return in April for another class. Super stoked! read more

Would have given zero stars if I could! Do not go here! I surprised my husband with a class here as a gift. Unfortunately about 10 days before his class, he developed a sudden foot issue which prevented him from being able to attend, as he couldn't stand. He reached out to reschedule for another date that was available on the website and the owner did nothing but string him along. She was very unprofessional in her responses, sharing her business woes and was not willing to allow him to reschedule. Luckily American Express refunded us the money based on the details my husband shared about how terribly unfair the owner was being. read more

Attended the 2-day blade smithing class with my husband. Class size was 6 adults total. Joseph was our instructor. He was super friendly and knowledgable; a great teacher. Despite the fact that forging hot blades in a class of beginners is inherently pretty dangerous, Joseph was detailed and patient with his instructions and safety was always at the forefront, so never once did I feel uneasy. Bring cold water and be prepared to sweat more than you ever have in your life. It was so much fun and now we have awesome mementos. I highly recommend. read more

A little while back I went out with some friends and after a night of drinking I woke up to a confirmation email about a blacksmithing class. It's always been a dream of mine to get into blacksmithing and have my own forge one day so I guess drunk me decided"there is no time like the present" and signed me up for a one day class. I can honestly say this was the best drunk purchase I have ever made! I had such a great time and ended up signing up for more classes. I made a hook for my dogs leash and it's definitely the coolest thing I've ever made. (Don't worry I was not intoxicated during the class) Did I mention they have a shop dog? He is also the sweetest pupper ever. (Don't tell my dog I said that) Everyone treats you like family the second you walk in the door and there is nothing more satisfying than taking a hammer to a red hot piece of metal and making something awesome looking. 10/10 would recommend! read more

I chose She-Weld over the other welding class options available in my "oh-so-very-supportive-of-this-kind-of-thing" borough of Brooklyn, for the cost, actually. It was the most affordable. I'm not in this to create my next masterpiece, but I like the idea of having the skill. She-Weld and her team were so welcoming and helpful, Marsha showed us around and introduced us to all the equipment and safety info, and then let let us loose with her (very awesome and powerful) toys. Supported but not hovered over. And even if, at the end of my three hour tour, I still started all of my arc welds like i was sword fighting with something very sticky, i totally see how these craftsfolk could provide the guidance and space for me to improve all my skills metallic. A well done seminar the instructor "Durham Vader" ran a safe and informative seminar. The proof being that nobody got hurt despite us working with fire, hot metal and heavy hammers. The neophytes, to working with metal, were quickly brought up to speed and there was give and take with those of us who had prior experience. Reviewing their 1 day knife making class. They provide other classes and I think sell art work and other fabricated items which looked cool and high quality but I can't evaluate them personally yet. Took the knife making class yesterday with my 13 year old son (emailed them ahead of time to make sure it was cool that a minor could attend and they responded very quickly with an affirmative). Sign up was super easy using their reservation system. Received a reminder a day or two ahead of the class with class time and location. The class was fantastic. Our instructor Ron was very clear in his direction and very hands on and helpful. He provided as much or as little help as you asked for and was very available; he was constantly in motion. We started out first thing in the morning, after our short intro to the tools, with making a metal decorative hook. This was to get used to working with the equipment and the concept of metal work. Then it was right into the knife. Took most of the day and it was a lot of work but it was very fun. I won't get into all of the details of how to make a knife, but its very physical but not so much that a 13 year old couldn't handle it. And as an aside, their location is in a great spot. In Red Hook, Brooklyn, right on the water. Close walk to Fairway for lunch and nice to just step outside for a breath of fresh air. read more

My son and I took their beginner knife forging class and it was great. My son is on the autism spectrum and the instructors were excellent with him. They were very willing to answer any and all questions about forging. The class is geared to both experienced and inexperienced metal workers. I highly recommend this class for anyone who is a forged in fire fan and wants the experience of forging a knife. read more

Marsha was great! She is an excellent teacher. She showed us step by step how to turn a round bar square, taper, use the hammer and anvil properly, different techniques. She also allowed us to work on our own projects at the end of class with her assistance. I've already signed up for two more classes! Assistant Jackie was very helpful too. Great class! read more

Be very sure to take the welding class on a day when there is not a simultaneous knife-making class. The noise from 6 people pounding anvils in a small shop is overwhelming. read more
