I started going to Shear Art North about eight months ago. I needed my haircut and I also wanted some vivid color highlights, three different shades of purple and also needed my gray toned up. (I'm 61). She understood the exact cut. I was looking for and also understood what I was looking for in color. (tone, the gray, then highlight and three different shades of purple.) She did an absolutely amazing job and I would highly recommend her to anyone! I found the whole salon very clean and the people they're very friendly and I've been back four times I believe since. Much to my display, Melanie had just left and so I was sat with a new stylist for just a haircut. She did a fairly good job and I'll definitely go back next month to have the color done. However, a day or so ago, I did receive a call from Melanie, who gave me her current information and I will go back to her if this new gal doesn't work out as well. However, I know if you go up higher than a level one, based on looking at their portfolios, they're definitely one of the best salons in all of Tampa and I've been here for 40 years and tried many of them! the front desk was very calm and helpful in resolving a mix up in the appointment time ... my calendar changed time zones so i was an hour late. my stylist jean bannister was excellent. she assessed my hair when it was still dry, talked me through what i wanted, asked some clarifying questions, then gave an exceptional head massage and shampoo. i'm delighted by the precision cut, it is exactly what i wanted. the salon itself is clean and comfortable, in a good location with plenty of parking. read more

This is a first for me. After being a client at SHEAR ART for almost 2 years, my husband and I were "fired" as clients because our stylist was 45 minutes late for our appointment (did not call before we took the 40-minute drive to the salon to say she was running behind) and I said "I am not happy." Those were my exact words. No raised voices, just a straight forward expression of displeasure. We could not wait and had to find another stylist elsewhere to cut our hair because we were going out of town for an event. Even though she mismanaged her time, she is a great stylist and we made another important appointment for 8 weeks later prior to an international trip. When we didn't receive an appointment reminder 2 days prior, I called the salon and was told we didn't have one but they booked another one for us. They promised to look into what happened and let us know. The MANAGER of the salon called the next day and said the stylist is uncomfortable providing service to us due to the incident 8 weeks prior, and it is "best we part ways at this point." Yes, you read that correctly! We were dismissed because the stylist ran almost 1 hour late, did not call us to cancel or move us, and we expressed displeasure. To add insult, they canceled our next appointment without calling us! That is why we didn't receive a reminder. I wonder if the owner, JoAnn Power, knows about this situation. We were not even offered another stylist in the Salon since our stylist of 2 years suddenly is uncomfortable with us after she mismanaged her time. read more

Michelle did an express keratin treatment for me on March 26. We booked an appointment that same day, before I left the south Tampa salon, for me to come to the north Tampa salon on April 18 for balayage. I have vacation/birthday coming up and wanted my hair done. After driving in rush hour traffic from south Tampa to Carrollwood, I was dismissed without getting the service done. When I sat down, we discussed the color and Michelle seemed confused about what I was requesting - I asked if in addition to balayage, there could be some highlights put in at the front/top. I told her if not, we could just do the balayage. She told me she had to consult with another hairdresser, then came back and told me that since it's only been 2 weeks since the keratin treatment, she couldn't do the color. She said it several times - that the color would wash out or be too dark or wouldn't 'take.' because it hasn't been 2 weeks. That's it. After I drove all that way. It was pretty obvious that she didn't want to do the service because it's been just over 3 weeks since the treatment was done - there wouldn't be a problem. PLUS - she knew at the time we booked the appointment together that she had just done a keratin treatment. After being dismissed like that, I will certainly go elsewhere. read more

I would like to speak with the owner or management regarding my lengthy (over 4 hour) appointment for simple trim and color to not even leave with the correct color or what I requested. When I expressed concern to the stylist, she said I can always make another appointment and come back. The staff keeps up with their professional development and the folks that get their hair done there always have smiles on their faces. The staff is friendly. I went here to get extension pricing. They wanted to charge me 1900 dollars for 630 dollars of hair (I would need two wefts from Bellami, which hairstylist have done honest pricing with me and I paid the wholesale amount which is 630 dollars for two wefts on their website). This was a level stylist 1 too. Her hourly rates were reasonable, but this place is trying to rip off rich people. My stylist was really sweet, but for over 2,000 I'd rather get the IBE method color-matched and everything... their excuse... we are not responsible for the hair that's why wtf... it's the same hair. I personally don't like leaving bad reviews, but I wanted to be fair and warn others... They tried to advantage of me and others who can afford this service. Response: It is not competitive pricing for Bellami hair.. I've bought Bellami before (all stylists have offered me Bellami and wholesale price. why? because they charge for the method, not the actual hair itself). The only reason I think that you would price it that way was because if my hair method wasn't put in correctly- you would fix it which I would rather not pay for). I went in today for my first facial treatment and was blown away! Tina was amazing, she was professional, personal, funny, sincere and very helpful! Not to mention GREAT at her job!! I actually had a good feeling about this place from the first time I called to ask about their services, the front desk staff was very helpful and polite. I was also pleased that I got a confirmation text for the appointment the day before and then a reminder the day of a few hours beforehand. Some people might not like getting the texts but for me it was a great touch and helpful. During my time there, everything was great. I did not know what to expect but I was more than happy with Tina's service. Everyone was friendly, smiled and said hello and we also conversed about silly little things as I was paying. I came in to get a partial baylayge and my hair somehow turned out darker than it was before. While the color looked good it was not what I asked for or expected to get. I even got comments at work that my hair looked darker. When I reached out to the hairdresser she told me it would be $150 to fix it after I had just spent over $200. That was extremely frustrating. I ended up going to another salon to fix it because I didn't want to come back and pay the same amount of money to have them not fix it correctly. read more

I was injured for one, and second, the person who was giving the treatment wasn't wearing a mask, especially if this person was breathing right in your face. My friend was getting her hair cut and instead of just waiting, I asked if they had any pedi appointments available. It was a last minute request, so I was fine if they didn't. Well, they said they did and started to take me back to the pedi area. Somewhere along the way, someone who either runs the place or has a lot of clout pulled the person who was going to do it and switched me to another person. Again, not a huge deal. However, when she did this, I overheard her say, "Just get whoever - it doesn't matter - it's just a glorified polish change." WHAT?! I should have pulled the plug right then and there. The "glorified polish change" she was referring to cost twenty-nine dollars!! I'm used to a full pedi for that price. I was left sitting in the chair for a good 10 minutes waiting for someone. The girl finally showed up and, the other woman was right. Glorified polish change. I got to soak my feet, had some lotion rubbed on my legs and she changed my nail polish. There was some shaping of the toe nails, but no scrubbing of the heels! The polish job was terrible, I left with red paint on my skin. Worst pedicure of my life. Not only because it was less service than I expected, but the polish change wasn't even good! There was also a strong undercurrent of really catty women - - it just didn't have that "nice" feel you expect at a salon. On a positive note, the front desk girl was incredibly nice and friendly. My hair stylist, Sara Altizer is the BEST and is always up for any changes I request as well as being at the top of her game on any trend! My hair has never looked this good! This was by far the worst hair cut I have ever had! Kelly Simes chopped random chunks out of my hair. I told her I wanted a trim, I have to keep my hair long enough to put in a ponytail. Kelly cut 4" off my hair to above my shoulders! I couldn't really tell how bad the cut was until I washed and styled it myself because she curled it. I posted pictures as I really can't believe anyone who is licensed actually would butcher someone like this! I went back a few days later to ask for a refund as I would have to pay someone else to try to fix this mess and Kelly would not even come out of the back to talk to me. Another stylist there offered to try and fix my hair so I went back the next day. She did a great job with what she had to work with but because of the big random chunks Kelly cut out of my hair it does not fall like it should and I will have to wait for it to grow out! read more

I scheduled an appoint. AT SHEAR ART NORTH IN TAMPA FLORIDA ON DALE MABRY IN CARROLLWOOD 1 month ago because I was pleased with my first visit. Huge difference for my 2nd visit. Apparently it was more important to cater to the mothers and spoiled children of a private school. It was their 8th grade dance. The mothers ignored their bratty children who were eating chips, playing music on their ipad and singing a "Chicken Nugget Song" at the top of their lungs. The mothers did nothing to control the children...entitlement. I was placed In a small room and made to feel like I was second rate to these mothers. They suggested a smaller room, maybe to seclude me more. I left after waiting for 30 minutes when it was obvious it would be a long wait. The stylist informed me she just needed to finish blow drying and braiding her clients hair. She had very long think hair. The stylist had the nerve to remind me "well, you were here early". Not counting being early I believe maybe I would have been in the chair an hour after my appointment time? So to accommodate these "yuppie moms and bratty children" who will probably visit once a year, they ignored a monthly client who was planning on making an appointment for color as well. Plain and simple, I was judged as not being worth as much as these ladies. Poor judgement, I tip very well. while sitting there I made an appointment with Mystic Hair and they were super nice. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SALON!!! oh, mask are required yet none of these CDS mothers or their children have one on. This salon used to be one of my favorites. So clean. All the ladies there know how to cut hair, I never have to worry about who my appointment is with as I know I'm in good hands. My only complaint about this place is their inability to stay on top of appointments!! Today I had an appointment for 4pm, confirmed via txt this morning. I show up at 4pm and the girl at the desk says I'm checked in and to take a seat. I do so and 25 minutes go by my scheduled appointment time. No one gave me any updates. No one checked on me. There were several stylist just standing around chatting as well and numerous saw how long I had been sitting there waiting. I finally walked out and let the front desk know. Her only response was "sorry." Previous, about two weeks ago a couple days out, I scheduled an appointment on the app and never received any confirmation call or txt. The day of I called to see if I was confirmed and they girl advise they saw my appointment request but couldn't accommodate. Uh shouldn't some one have called me to let me know instead of wondering if I had an appointment the day of? Like I said, they know what they are doing when it comes to hair but not to scheduling. ~UPDATE~ So 4 months after I post my review, the salon comments back saying to try them again. to be fair, let me make it clear up front that i've only seen two stylists at this salon. other stylists may not be present the same issues. first stylist - saw her about 6 years ago. went to her for about 6 months before leaving. asked for some strawberry blonde color/highlights mixed in with my usual blonde highlights. she spent about 15 minutes trying to figure out just the right shade of red to use, commenting that, because i'm fair skinned i wouldn't want to go as dark as her (she was very dark auburn). fast forward a few hours: my hair was all one color (red) and it was darker than hers. she didn't even acknowledged it - acted like this is what we were aiming for from the start. it was after 9, they were closed already and i just wanted to go home after being there for over 4 hours. it was one month before my wedding and it took several salon visits (at a different salon, of course) to fix her mistake. last year i decided to give the place a try again but this time with a different stylist. loved the stylist personally and she usually did a pretty decent job with the cut and just highlights, but then i told her i wanted chin length bangs (she gave me eyebrow length bangs) and that i wanted to bring out the red tones in my hair (she turned my hair a very dark burgundy/wine color). again, she acted like this was all what i asked for at the start. clearly, red is an issue - either with my hair or with this salon. either way, the fact that both stylists behaved as if there was nothing amiss about my hair led me to the realization that A LOT was amiss with this salon. i won't be back. read more

Tina M has been doing my cuts, color and hair extensions for over these ten years and I would never trust anyone else to touch my hair. I have very fine, thin hair and have tried a few different methods of hair extensions and loved all of them . Tina always knows what to suggest to promote healthy growth of my hair and incredible looks. I get compliments everywhere I go and no one ever suspects I have pieces added in my hair - yay!
