I followed Kasia here from her last salon, and the two haircuts I've gotten from her are my absolute favorite haircuts I've ever gotten. My hair is now long, and layered, and fantastic. I had my first and last experience going to Shear Artistry. I consulted with the stylist Kasia prior to beginning that I wanted my hair to eventually be a lighter shade of brown. We discussed that it would need to happen in stages, best done gradually through a series of highlights over time. We decided to do a root touch up and highlights that would be a lighter brown or caramel to help me get to where I wanted to be down the road. She did my roots first and alone, blow dried them, and then she started my highlights (I've never had it done separate before but that wasn't an issue other than it took much longer). Two and a half hours later I looked in the mirror and had awful brassy copper streaks (this photo doesn't show how red it is and my hair was still wet). Even worse, the highlights didn't extend to my scalp and they looked like they had already started growing out. NO ONE would say these are good highlights and no one would want their hair to look like this. When I called the salon and spoke to the owner after I left she was extremely rude and condescending, placing the blame on me and that I had unrealistic expectations. She said she didn't have time to talk to me, that a client was staring at her, and she had to go. I was appalled at the rudeness. She said she would call back later and never did. I also spoke to the stylist and after explaining I was uncomfortable letting her fix it (why would I trust that it would be better the second time? Why wouldn't they offer for another stylist or the owner to fix it?), she focused on payment and insinuated that I was attempting to get a service for free. I was looking for a solution and all they were worried about was securing payment and defending the awful hair I now had to go to another salon and pay to have fixed. It's one thing to receive bad service, it's quite another to have you made to feel awful or shady for expressing that to the employees and management. I've never received such all around poor customer service and I will tell everyone I know to avoid this salon. Bottom line: don't go to this salon unless you want to walk out looking worse than you came in and get treated poorly for not liking it. read more

Service sucks, Owner is rude and 1 hour massages are NOT 1 hour, more like 45 minutes. When booking for one service I got another and questioned it and then the owner yelled her head off on the phone and called us liars. RUDE!!!! Update- Owner has receptionist and other girls call and harass me after I complained to the BBB and am going to file a small claims suit, lied and made up accusations and contacted police and detective to say lies about a non profit animal organization which IS legally registered with the IRS doing good to raise money for needy animals, medical care, food, etc. Horrible is all I can say. Clients do NOT come first and Satisfaction Guaranteed is a word that is NOT reflected upon as stated in the handbook, especially when you are harassed by owner and staff by phone daily. I have been to many other day spas and had NO problems. Another problem was when I told my massage girl to NOT touch my lower back due to medical and she dug hot stones in my back anyway, then told her to stop and she said "sorry, I forgot". I have been in lower back pain for days and have to go back to the doctor. read more

When you move to a new area, there are a couple of things you need to know right away: Who will cut your hair and who will fix your car. It's all about trust. I was lucky to get a recommendation to go to Shear Artistry the first week I arrived in Avon. And I was even luckier to get referred to Stephanie. Now I have a standing 3-week appointment. Shear Artistry is a terrific salon. Everyone is super nice -- and you can tell the vibe of the place because the clients and stylists all have an easy rapport. It's simply comfortable to go there. Run down appearance. Tried pedicure once, massages twice, due to gift certificates from family. Both experiences were less than ideal. The first because of ambience and general attitude, the second because of the same plus a terrible massage therapist. Ambience: Change room is tiny like a closet and dirty. no place to sit or relax to wait, just a chair in a hall, windows everywhere so you have to walk around in your bathrobe in front if the whole parking lot, cold inside, staff not much warmer- emotionally or physically! STAFF: Woman doing pedicure would NOT STOP TALKING about everything, herself, and trying to up sell the entire time. Not relaxing, in fact, very stressful. Masseuse was 45 mins late, hands were ice cold, massage room freezing, literally had to ask her to stop touching me and pleeease warm her hands. She kept apologizing, but still, this is your livelihood- she should know this. Plus, she didn't appear to know how to position people properly. Completely uncomfortable. Massage cut short even after her being late. Won't be going back. read more

I have not been to this spa in several years but I have recollection of having the best facial of my life there. So when I was looking for a detox treatment and massage I decided to look them up again. Cons: The facility is getting quite run down. The locker room is more like a closet and the locks are broken on most of them. There are large areas of paint chipping off of the doors in the treatment rooms. Part of my treatment was 10 minutes in the steam shower. Although very clean there was an odd mix of product in there. It was kind of like taking a shower at someones house which was weird. I would have expected a matching shampoo and conditioner/soap presented in a "spa-like" way (if that means any sense) Also the shower walls itself had been cut up and then fixed with tape. There was a giant wad of white tapeline material stuck to the wall. It was also a bit chilly in the treatment rooms. The physical space was a bit of a turn off. Pros: Thu was my therapist and she was very good. All in all she always referred to me by name and was very professional. I had the deepsea detox therapy with an additional 30 minute massage. The therapy was a steam treatment followed by a mud wrap. I was swaddled in a nice warm cocoon while Thu gave me a mini facial. That was a welcome surprise as it was not advertised. she also did a head massage where with aromatherapy oils. This was pretty intense with tingling bordering on burning sensation from what I think was peppermint oil but it was not unpleasant There was this awkward moment when I think she forgot to offer me water after the steam and before the wrap because she tried to give me water while I was trapped in the cocoon and she ended up spilling water all over my neck and chin. The treatment was very and had some additional things I did not expect that were a total bonus. The massage was the greatest! She is very good at that service and seemed to know where my trouble spots were without even being asked. The prices were very reasonable for the service provided. I will most likely return for another massage in the future. read more

I am very disappointed that their best stylist, Stephanie has left. After going here for 5 years, losing your stylist is terrible. This place is starting to show their age and for a spa, that is not good. The receptionist tried to put me with a new stylist and I was put off by her lack of knowledge of the person who would best fit me. After 5 years, they no longer seem to care about me as a client, so I no longer go here. Losing their best stylist is really not worth me putting anymore $ into this place. read more

As a newer resident to the Simsbury area, I was in the market for a new hair stylist. I was recommended to check out Shear Artistry and after meeting Janina, the owner, she helped to schedule me an appointment with Stephanie. I have never looked back. Stephanie and all of the staff are very professional and accomodating. The always greet you with a smile and treat you to great conversation. I would highly reccomend Stephanie as a stylist and Shear Artistry when considering your salon and spa needs! read more

I LOVE Stephanie - she does a great job on my crazy hair. I also love the massages. Everyone is extremely nice - as soon as you go in, you are offered a beverage. Couldn't disagree with previous review more. A friend of mine and I purchased a voucher through Livingsocial for a treatment to celebrate our "milestone" birthdays together, made the appointment and eventually the hour+ long trip (for one of us) to Avon, only to find out they didn't have us on their schedule after all. Receptionist attempted to place blame squarely on our shoulders -- inferring we were mistaken -- and stating our appointment was "supposed" to be for a date that was sooner than the promotional deal was valid! Staff was unapologetic & unsympathetic, despite our lack of anger at them. Owner finally came out and realized it was in fact a "computer error", and offered to reschedule us for a "one time only" date -- except salon got closed for that date because of blizzard! Another storm is now due for our 2nd rescheduled date and when we called to inquire about how this would work out, were told quite rudely that this "is it." No more extensions past February. Very poor customer service and a waste of money on an establishment that cares little to honor purchases made, especially when the entire problem was a result of their error. I am an executive at a medical device company in CT. I was so looking forward to my 90 min massage during my week off. I had a 8:30am 90 min massage scheduled. Showed up at 8:20. At 8:40 someone took me back to change. They assured me, JANE, the massage therapist was on her way and they would still be able to accommodate me for 90 min. At 9:10 the owner came to me and sincerely apologized, but they had no idea where JANE was. They had another therapist coming in 20 min and could offer me a 30 min or they would offer me another day/time. Hmmm---I get how scheduling works but if you wanted me to even THINK about coming back, you should have offered me SOMETHING in terms of compensation. "Please come back and enjoy a 30 min massage on us for the inconvenience of sitting here for 45 min while we were trying to find our employee." That would have made a difference. You are not in a spa like atmosphere while waiting for your appointment. No lounge chairs and aroma therapy here. You are sitting in a patio style chair with wrought iron back in a hallway that other clients and employees walk through. If we have employees late for appointments at my job, without due cause, they are sanctioned or fired. Last time for me at Shear Artistry. It looks like from Yelp that this location should stick with doing hair. Calling this Salon a day spa is like calling the local high school basketball team the NBA. Poor judgement on their end in handling this situation. Don't waste, literally, your time. Many other better spas in West Hartford which is only 15 min away. read more
