We are new to the area and just happened to find Shearer's Grooming. So thankful we did! They were able to get Toby our Poochon, 8 month old puppy in the next day. Madison was wonderful with him. There was only one other groomer and one other pup, so not all the confusion and barking you get with larger groomers. Toby looks great, feels so much better in this Florida heat without all that hair. Also, Toby did not want to come home with me (very unusual, he usually does not let me out of his sight!). He loved his day at the groomers! When I put his leash on him he tried to follow Madison back in thru the gate. I love that he enjoyed his day with his new friends. read more

She knows to be aware of any fears and softly talks them thru it.......my furries never like the dreaded nail clipping!!! My fur baby Newton NEVER liked his bowtie so Joyce just gave it to me.........his sister on the other hand, Beany, is such a diva and loves her Christmas attire and is wearing it proudly!!! I scheduled an appointment here weeks ago. They called me the day before to reschedule due to a groomer being sick. Fine! People get sick I get it, so I rescheduled. Today was the appointment date so I show up and the doors are locked and no ones answering the phone. I decided to wait around in case someone was running late. I get a call 20 minutes past my appointment time telling me that they are cancelling again. What the heck? No courtesy to let me know before the appointment, no remorse or consideration for me and my poor dogs who have now been waiting for a weeks. She even told me on the phone "I don't know what to tell you." I really don't think they want new clients during season, if you want reliable services while it's the busiest season of the year I highly recommend starting somewhere else. read more

Very nervous to take my Shyla to the groomers for the first time but as soon as we walked in the door I felt at ease leaving Shyla with the groomers here. My parents have taken their little white shih tzu / poodle mix to Shearers Grooming for almost a year now. I've personally been with them the past 3 or 4 times. Every time I came prior to our last there was this very sweet girl that asked us what we wanted done and took our dog in. Our dog went with her without fuss, he was always attended to promptly, and we had no complaints. Yesterday was a very different experience. We dropped our dog off around 10am. For some reason the lady seemed surprised when we walked in, but we had made an appointment over the phone several days ago for that exact time. The lady asked what we wanted done and we told her. For some reason our dog REALLY didn't want to go in the back room. He put up the biggest fight my parents ever saw and they didn't understand why. We thought this was strange but didn't think anything more of it. The lady told us the dog should be ready in the early afternoon. We came back at noon time to check on the status of our dog. I was the first to walk in and the dog looked done to me. I hadn't said a word or done anything when the head lady snapped at me in the rudest tone she could. She exclaimed the dog isn't ready and tried to reprimand me for coming in to check on the status of the dog. She asked why I didn't wait for a call, but this didn't make sense to me because we don't carry around a phone and have never waited for a call. I thought she knew this. This is when I took a closer look and realized the head lady wasn't who we usually see, but some other person. Boy she looked rough! It doesn't sound like much, but if you witnessed her personality and the way she spoke to me you would be appalled. It was not justified. She was rude and VERY agitated. All she had to say was our dog wasn't ready and to please come back at such-and-such time. Once I witnessed the way she acted and the way she spoke to me I would have taken the dog right then and there and left if it were mine. This is my parents' dog and they decided to wait. I was afraid she would hurt him either purposely or negligently because of how agitated she was. Needless to say I will never return and will never recommend this place to anyone. I don't know who she was, but if it were my business I would fire her. read more

We had to rush our 6 month old puppy to our vet. For the purpose of introducing our pup to the grooming process, I brought her to Shearers for a puppy orientation. Much to the groomers resistance I stayed. (Only under the condition that I would stay out of site) understandable, they cannot have the pup fixated on Mommy. I think she forgot I was there and the real action came out. As she held Abby. She was very loud, gruff and yelling at the other dogs to shut up. She kept putting her face into Abby's face with no awareness that she looked afraid. When Abby pulled her head away at one point she aggressively yelled "oh we have a head butter here. She wants to hurt me" "we're going to have to watch this one". The puppy is 6 months old and weighs maybe 6#. A Coton de Tulear. I brought her home and she slept for 2 hours before I woke. She seemed almost comatose. I rushed her to the vet and she had gone into a mild state of shock from the experience. Never , never again. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Shearers. I am traveling right now with my parents and my dad's service dog. This dog is 12 and has long hair. I realized his hair was just too hot for this Florida vacation. I saw the good reviews and decided to give Shearers a chance. Both ladies working were incredibly gentle and skilled. The dog came back looking comfy and clean. It only took them 2.5 to finish, which is a huge bonus because many places take more than four hours. I picked him up I stayed for a few minutes and watched them handle the other dogs. They were just amazingly gentle. You could tell they are true animal lovers. One of the groomers was singing to calm the dog she was clipping. The dog loved it! Really a nice place. I would come back here if I lived in Venice for sure. Price is quite moderate. I took my large, mixed-breed dog for a shampoo, and was pleased with our experience. The salon was clean, and the staff's caring nature with dogs was evident immediately. I was impressed that they took the time to "meet" him and get him to warm up to them rather than just dragging him through the process. He can be a giant "scaredy cat", and they seemed very patient with him! And he came out looking great, too! read more

We had our 11-year old Malti-Poo, Sherpa, groomed and also cared for by Cathi for several days while we were traveling and were very pleased with her care. Cathi is wonderful and has a very spacious and spotless house with ample outdoor space including an enclosed dog run. She's a true professional with a big heart and we will always leave Sherpa with her from now on while we're traveling. read more
