In the morning of Thursday, 21 May 2026, I went to their Sterling Branch and asked the Manager, Jeremy, how much it would cost to have the oil changed. He quoted $61. I indicated that my car needed inspection and emission testing as well and I would drop the car off in the afternoon. Jeremy said he would not be able to do the job that day but he would get it done the following day. The following day, Friday, 22 May 2026, we spoke on the phone and Jeremy stated "your car in done but it has failed both inspection and emission and the repairs would cost thousand of dollars." He also added that he had texted me a report. I did examine the report and found one inaccuracy: one of the reasons the mechanic had failed the inspection was the LED bulbs I had installed in my brand new headlights. Obviously he did not know the rule 19VAC30-70-510 and he had not observed that I had replaced the entire headlamp assembly with one approved for LED bulbs: "If the entire headlamp assembly is changed from a halogen system to an LED system and does not require the manufacture's original wiring to be cut or compromised, then it shall be considered for inspection if it meets the requirements of subdivision A 2 of this section." I will report this oversight to the safety division of VA Police. But the above is not my main complaint. I asked Jeremy how much I owed him and he said $165! As soon as I asked "why", he became abusive and aggressive and using foul four letter words kept talking over me and would not let me squeeze a word in. As he went on yelling and interrupting me I tapped the counter hard with the palm of my hand hoping to get a word in. At which point Jeremy, his eyes flashing, faced me with a menacing stance and shouting "Don't you effing yell at me in my shop ..." and so on and so forth. I had not even raised my voice, I just tapped the counter to get a word in. Eventually, however, I managed to itemize the items and the total, including inspection and emission, came to a little over $100. As I was leaving I said "This is not how you treat a customer." To which Jeremy retorted "This is not how you treat a small business. You wasted my effing time." I would like for Jeremy to explain what was wrong with the way I treated his small business? Was I not within my rights to demand that I'd be charged fairly and squarely?
