After over 7 hours of driving, I needed an alcoholic beverage. We decided to visit this place since it was so close to our hotel. Sheffield is semi hidden but still a gem. Smoking is allowed so you must be 21 and up to enter the bar. I don't know if it applies to dining area. This place gives the the dive bar vibe. This establishment is frequently visited by my family. The food is good for a bar. The bar allows smoking, but yesterday we were there celebrating 2 birthdays. There were many people smoking besides our group of 8. The owner only said our group smoking was too much others. This was very odd 90% of the restaurant was smoking. We are sad that we were asked to leave as we patronize them weekly. We won't be supporting them again, of course he waited until we ordered plenty of food and drinks. Never again!!!!! read more

I only went here because a friend invited me, otherwise I would not have gone! We went someone was having a party at the back which made the restaurant close the other side where there were pool tables. The whole bar was limited to only 2 pool tables that's in the front. Not cool! Then on top of that who had to pay for the pool table and the people who were playing were hogging the pool table. Drinks were too prices for a bar night. Just not my type of crowd. The Ancient One and I disobeyed a cardinal rule of restaurant dining - we went to a self-proclaimed sports bar for a weekday breakfast. Now you and I both know, Gentle Reader, that a sports bar is not usually the place you think of when you say "Wow! That's where I want to be at 10:00am!" Unless, of course, you've been out all night - then, you probably want to have breakfast at a sports bar, because you know you can get a little hair of the dog along with your greasy eggs. But The Ancient One and I (mainly me) couldn't find the restaurant I was looking for, amidst all the twists and turns of strip mall hell, and so I figured, it's Bob Evans again. But then we passed Sheffield's, and there was one sign that said "open" and another sign that said "Breakfast and Lunch Served," and the car pulled into the lot. Inside, we saw that the sports bar area is to the right, and the restaurant area is to the left. The Ancient One commented right away that the decor was very nice - not too fancy, but pleasant and neat. We were greeted by a friendly, but not too friendly, hostess, who told us that our waitress would be right with us. And, lo and behold, she was, bearing menus. We asked for coffee and had it within a minute. I was favorably impressed. Sheffield's already had the lunch salad bar up, but I was told that breakfast was still available. I ordered a vegetarian skillet - potatoes at the base, with mushrooms, broccoli, onions, green pepper, topped with two eggs. I requested sunnyside and wheat toast. The waitress asked if I wanted the toast buttered or not. I said not. The Ancient One ordered crepes with cherries. Since T.A.O. is actually trying to gain weight, she requested the whipped cream on top instead of powdered sugar. The waitress promised to give her LOTS of whipped cream. The food came in less than 10 minutes. The Ancient One had three large crepes, with artfully-arranged whipped cream on top. I had a couple bites. It was really good. I was also very pleasantly surprised with my skillet. Sometimes, you just get a lot of potatoes with very few vegetables. Not this time. There was a very good ratio of potatoes to vegetables. Everything was cooked just right. The skillet wasn't humongous, but for me, it was still a lot. And my wheat toast was dry, as requested. We each took the remainders of our meals home. I just had mine for dinner with a little extra cheese on top. Still very good. All in all, a very pleasant experience. I would definitely go to Sheffields for breakfast again. And it wasn't crowded at all, unlike the Bob Evans and Bakers Square across the street. Who knows, I might even have dinner and drinks there sometime! But not with The Ancient One along. read more

I was very excited to see this place. It looked like a great alternative to the chains. The food was not anything special, tasted just like the chains. I had pancakes and bacon. Bacon was depressingly thin. Pancakes were unimpressive. This place isn't worthy the extra steps to get there. Maybe the connected sports bar is better. read more

Welp. The food is colder than the beer but warmer than the service. And the bathroom has no hot water which isn't surprising considering how cold everything else is. Today will be our last visit. Quick review. Stopped here on a drive from O'Hare to Indianapolis on a Sunday morning. The Bob Evans' close by had an hour wait so as I headed back out to US 30 I saw Sheffield's, a sports bar pub on the frontage road. Was served by Hillary who allowed me to order a lunch special even though it wasn't lunchtime. Thanks Hillary! Had a grilled cheese sandwich with bacon, great home made potato chips and tea and I was out the door for around 10 bucks. I'd still be waiting to be seated at Bob Evan's. Why, when such good alternatives are available, do people wait an hour to get served factory food? On my way back, if time allows, I'll try having dinner here. Warning, no kids are allowed here, due in part to the fact that this is a smoking establishment on the bar side. read more

can you say one pound cheeseburger? that's just the meat. before all the other grilled and fresh toppings are added. before you count the giant bun that is truly bigger than your head. bacon. grilled onion, mushrooms, peppers. tomato, lettuce, cheese. i ordered it once by pointing at the picture, it looked good and i had not read the description. yeah when it came out on a platter, i was stunned. it fed three of us at the table, well we all had had quite a few drinks by then, and i think i took half of it home for leftovers. their hot wings are good. the other items i have had there have always been good. get your friends, get the burger. have fun trying to get it in your mouth. read more

Ive been to Sheffield's 3 time now and I always have a good time. I went on Thursdays where they have $2.00 domestic beers and on a Saturday where they had $3 buck you call it. Its really a mixed group of people which makes it a comfortable place to hang out. They also have a DJ at 10pm on Saturdays, I would not go just for the "DJ" auto play MP3 player. Food was not bad and the wait staff is always fun, Sandy was very attentive to my table. read more

This is a strange set up. Non-smoking family restaurant side, where there are seldom any customers sitting and the "ok to smoke" sports bar side of the restaurant. The interior design of the restaurant is out dated and I wouldn't think of Sheffield's when taking the family out. We go to Sheffield's to watch sports in the bar and for the BEST wings around. They are plump and moist even though we ask for them to be cooked extra crispy. They also have a good selection of sauces. The salads are good too. We do not go very often though because it is a smoking establishment. Well I guess we could sit in the no-smoking, boring restaurant side where there are no other customers but we want the TV, sports bar experience. Just wish it could be without the smoke. The great wings warrant 5 stars, but the smokey environment knocks a couple off. But that is just my "non-smoker" opinion. My friends who smoke love that they don't have to leave the restaurant for a smoke. read more

Half family restaurant and half bar...the place is huge. Bloody Mary's not so good but breakfast was delicious! Hearty portions and great hospitality. We stopped in about 8:00 a.m. And thought they were closed. Only 3 others there -I think they were regulars -not busy at all. Disgusted. I watched as a server in the bar approached my clearly over served girlfriend and asked her if she wanted another drink while the one she had was still half full. She said, "yes" and then the server asked her, "top shelf?" Yes again. She brings back a drink in plastic f'ing cup and says, "$12". My girl gives 15 and says keep it. That was all but a couple of dollars she had left. 5 minutes later I had to help her out of the bar staggering and stumbling not having taken a single sip out of that $12 plastic cup. She was clearly being over served and then hustled for her remaining dollars. Here comes the sarcasm... nice training program. Where do you recruit your managers from? The county work release program? For those wondering, she was there ahead of me. By the time I arrived she was already several shots chased with Long Islands into her night. A $12 drink in a plastic cup, seriously? If it was crowded I might understand but it was dead that night. No excuse for it for plastic cups and certainly no excuse for taking advantage of someone that drunk. If this is how you operate, you're in the wrong business. read more
