Sheila's is a nice little shop with typical panaderia breads, a meat counter, small groceries and most importantly of all, a full taqueria. I stopped in to pick up takeout for a quick weekday lunch. There were two people ahead of me in line and a phone order was called in while I was waiting. Seems like a healthy business. I got the following: California Burrito - This is a surprisingly good rendition of a proper California Burrito. A tightly rolled 10" tortilla filled with a good quality carne asada, guac, french fries, chipotle crema, onion, cilantro and cheese. They even have it wrapped in wax paper, although they cut the burrito in half instead of leaving it whole. The only thing it's missing is the pico and the fact that it's only like 1/2 or 2/3 the size of a normal one. Does Sheila's beat out a proper California burrito place in San Diego? No, but it's great for the Midwest. Carnitas Burrito - Interesting construction here. Instead of the cheese being with the rest of the ingredients, the burrito is rolled first, cheese is added to tortilla flap, then the entire assembly is griddled. The burrito is filled with a good amount of Mexican rice, cilantro, onion and meat and was properly rolled. The menu says it has beans but I wasn't able to detect any - perhaps they forgot them? The carnitas were just okay in my opinion. It seemed like they had been soaking for a long time in the rendered fat since the grease was leaking all over the container. I think this burrito could be improved by adding sour cream or crema. One thing to be aware about - they charge a 4% fee for credit cards which I didn't see displayed anywhere. I would definitely go again to try their other menu items, maybe for some tortas and a non-carnitas burrito. read more

Oh wow, this was legit some of the best Mexican cuisine ever. I had chiliciles with huevos, and my best girl got the Cubano torta. We ended up taking home 2 pounds of carnitas and torta buns as well as chicharons, guess who had a great dinner tonight. You have to try this gem of place. read more

I just moved here and my niece showed me this place. I'm straight up addicted to their Tamales!! Their tacos and Quesobirras are Amazing!!! WOW this might be the best Mexican food I've ever had! Service was so quick and the portions are huge! They have a huge selection on their dine in/carry out menu but also tons of drinks, snacks, baked goods around the shop. They even had a deli to buy raw meats. I got the chicken quesadilla and a steak burrito and could barely make a dent in them because how generous the portions are. You definitely get your bang for your buck. If i had my choice i would not have given a star at all. I went yesterday because i wanted some mexican food and used to go here when i lived closer to the area. I remember it being really good. But it was horrible. Both meats of my tacos were very dry. The rice was hard. Tasted like it was out of a box. It ruined my appetite for anything else. How the girls refused to take it off of the bill was appalling. They said that i still had to pay for it because i took a bite out of it. I was the most horrible dish I've ever had. She took my information down and said she would have the manager call me once he came back. I've not received a call. I will never go back here let alone refer this place again. read more

I would give this 0 stars if I could. The people are so mean and dumb. I asked for a LARGE BEAN AND RICE. I didn't ask for no tacos with no tortilla or a torta with a piece of steak and no onion, extra tomato, light mayo, etc. I ASKED FOR SOMETHING SO SIMPLE. But no, they couldn't give me what I wanted and then I get yelled at because "yo no se hacer el mandado bien." THEY DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT RIGHT. Anyways, and the cook yelled at my friend's mom when she tried working there. They're so mean. In conclusion, I do not recommend.
