We went there yesterday for dinner and not only was our server rude, we waited forever for our food to come out and when I seen my food I knew there was no way I was going to be able to eat it. It looked like they threw slop on my plate and put some nasty tomatoes on top that tasted like funk almost like they we're moldy. The beans had no beans in them it was like brown water leaking moldy tomato sauce around the brown water and don't get me started on the rice. When I called the server over to get something different because it was not edible they told me THIS AIN'T BURGER KING YOU CAN'T HAVE IT YOUR WAY. We were shocked. It was so dark in there that I could swear my bedroom has more light when I go to bed at night. There was something crawling on the wall at the next booth over and when I told my boyfriend he stopped eating and dropped his jaw. We rarely eat out and I always cook. My kitchen is wiped down with bleach every night before I go to bed, and dishes are in the dishwasher to be washed. My kitchen is very clean and I know what I put in my food. I have no idea what they served us but it was not edible. I had to use the restroom before we left because we had an hour drive back home. There was no toilet paper and toilet had yellow drops on the seat. I walked out and we stopped off at McDonald's down the street to use their restroom and while we were there we got some food there and I'm not a big fan of McDonald's at all and that Big Mac that has nasty meat tasted better than the food looked at Manuel's I don't know who the F is running Manuel's anymore but they may as well shut down because we had no good experience at all with place. Even though my boyfriend got about 4 bites out of that food and I took two bites, they made us pay for the full plates of food. We did not tip our server and told them to look for a bad review and we were to call the board of health on them. They better start cleaning that building and getting it in tip top shape and serving food that's not moldy because they will be shut down and that is my promise. read more

I used to love Manuel's, I don't know what happened to them in the past year or so but the prices have skyrocketed and the quality of the food has went way downhill. There's way too many Mexican resturants Downriver to deal with this. They better step their game up because I was a longtime loyal customer and I'm done. read more

Poor experience with service and food. Wrong order twice. Side of rice and beans never came. Street style chicken tacos were inedible, chewy/gummy chicken, super gross. $15.90 after tax, it's practically $16 for one of their daily specials. Portion size is smaller now, too. The price is outrageous and shot up drastically. After covid everything went up a little bit and that was fine but they keep raising their prices so mush that I will never come back. This is the furthest from "authentic Mexican food" The worst food I've ever attempted to eat, the food was flavorless, the rice was crunchy-not fully cooked, the beans were like a tasteless paste- canned refried are 1000x better, the chunky beef was chewy, questionable. I have been eating here since the 90s. The food is always fresh hot and delicious. I don't ever remember a bad experience. I am currently loving the chicken Quesadilla. The jalapeños layed in the cheese and the generous amount of guacamole make it my favorite! Since covid they bring it to your car. I love this place. read more

The husband and I had a bad visit, followed by another, then another. So it's pretty safe to say, we'll stop coming to Manuel's. The main problem is the food. Now, I love cheese like any overweight American, but they've bumped cheese up to the main item on your meal. On our last three visits, I ordered the chicken enchiladas and each time, they really skimped on the chicken but put about a pound of cheese on them. They used to season and spice the chicken and now you'll be lucky to find a touch of spice anywhere. It's just greasy, bland food. Also, the rice has been served to me cold, dry and burnt, depending on the visit. We gave them three shots to see if we just went on "off days" but seriously, they must just be going downhill. The food is very good, but the portions have been skimpy lately and the prices has been increased 4 times since Covid. Most things on the menu like a taco has increased from 2.25 to 3.50 since the new owners have taken over during the last year and a half. Used to spend about 40 dollars now have to spend 58 to 64 dollars for the same food. Ponchos on Telegraph is the place to go with food as good or better than manuals. Will not be going back to Manuals due to the price increases. read more

Well when I got here it looked like original Mexican dining but when I asked for Horchata they didn't have it.when the server came to ask for our order I asked if they had Carne Asada or Tacos de Lingua, they had neither. The food here is not authentic because they do not have over half of what Mexican food actually has to offer, even the chips and salsa taste like it was store bought. When I asked for Hot sauce he laughed and said they don't carry hot sauce. The server was nice and kept our drinks full but that was about the only thing good about it. Manuel's has been a staple in my life. When I was young, family would come here. When I lived nearby as an adult, I decided to hit it up again. Glad I did. And even though I've moved, work thankfully remains nearby. Is it the best mexican food around? No. But its solid, especially for the price. Still satisfies immensely. And the staff is always great. Id recommend it for lunch any day. read more

Decent food, I've had better and certainly have had worse. I ordered the chicken enchiladas and requested verde sauce instead of rojo. They were okay a bit dry and rice and beans short on flavor. My companion had the combination plate which was as for meat all ground beef not his favorite but he actually enjoyed his meal more then I did. The salsa was a bit thin, they have bottles on each table which is nice; because you don't have to ask for more. The chips average, I suspect they were bagged. The service was very good. The prices average a bit high for quality. Atmosphere nothing special however I hear they deck the place out at Halloween. Not my first pick for mexican. Yup, that's right - 5 FULL Stars for the month of October. Manuel's Taco Hut is transformed into another entity during the month of Halloween. It's a bit of haunted house meets Palace Amusements with skeletons that tell jokes while their eyes light up and try to hypnotize you! The low lighting and varying spookish music mixed with fun jams like 'Monster Mash' all add to the excitement of this place. I can only comment on the month of October but it's become a bit of a tradition to get our Halloween fix at Manuel's Taco Hut. It can get pretty busy and they have a small parking lot so I recommend parking on a side street such as Luana Ave (corner of Ecorse Rd). The staff are quick, polite and some of them even dress up in different characters just to add to the fun (our waitress was a devil and another one was Wonder Woman). Even though the lighting is low it was MUCH lower last year (so low, you would need to use your phone to read the menu) so the small change is appreciated. After being seated, be aware that the music and lighting may change all of a sudden so that some ghoul or werewolf in the corner can howl. If that doesn't get you, try the ghosts that will scare you with a big BOO or the animated spider that likes to drop from the ceiling. As for the food, it's decent Mexican-American food, heavy on the cheese and meat which is typical. It's definitely not my grandma's recipe but it's good with large portion sizes to feed hungry customers. Like lots of places, they give you chips and 2 different salsas (mild and HOT). There aren't any vegetarian dishes but you can get most items without meat. IF you are looking for lots of vegetables, I would go for a salad (sorry, I know that's a typical answer!) or a botana, which is loaded with tomatoes, lettuce, olives, vinegar jalapenos, fresh avocado, etc. Botana's are something like a nacho-supreme. A small botana could easily feed two. YUM! If you're not super hungry, there are items under $2 a la carte. You'll come here just as much to eat as for entertainment value and what's better yet, I've never met a kid or adult who didn't have a blast! read more

On Valentine's Day my husband and I decided to pick up some tostada's for dinner. We hadn't had Manuels since the pandemic started, so off we went. The parking lot was crawling with cars and 2 employees were running all over doing curbside pickup. Our order was brought out to us, and when we got home everything was really good!!! Just recieved my order, waitress with blonde hair, blue eyes, and birthmark on cheek, claimed to be owners daughter was rude and said their policy is 1 little hot sauce per 3 items. We politely questioned if we could have 2-3 more. She denied us. You would think spending $50.00 on a meal there, they could at least provide 2 more little sauces. We have never had this type of customer service before. Usually, we are treated well. Tried Manuel's Taco Hut on a friend's recommendation. First, the Halloween decorations were amazing. It was like a mini fun haunted house, even after we were seated, with various "attractions" coming to life throughout the evening. It made the 20+ minute wait much more bearable. Which brings us to the actual food. The chips were stale and clearly not made in-house. The salsa, which I expected from other reviews, was downright dreadful. It was red water with a hint of spicy flavor buried somewhere deep within. There was no "scooping" salsa onto the chips - you just kind of dunked them and hoped they got wet enough that you could taste it on the pasty, stale, flavorless chips. Onward to the entrees. The quesadilla was dripping grease out the ends while I was eating it. The flavor was fine, and the jalapenos inside tasted good, but I had to find plate real estate to hold the dripping grease. This worked out, because after one bite of the canned flavorless refried beans, I decided that would be the "garbage dump" part of my plate and it could hold the extra grease. The highlight of the meal was the chicken fajita. Generously piled with tender and flavorful meat, and interspersed with some correctly cooked (albeit bland) vegetables, this would be the piece of the meal I'd order again. The beef chimichanga was crisp on the outside, but the dough was rather thick and there wasn't a ton of beef in it. The rice was passable. Manuel's would definitely have been a two-star restaurant if it weren't for a combination of the neat decorations/experience and the absolutely delightful and attentive waitress. These rescued the kitchen from making me a sad, sad taco-or-treater. I would never visit this place outside of their "decoration months" of October and December, and even then it would be more of a "novelty if I had children" rather than a place to drive out of my way to eat. read more

I've been here a few times, but this is the first time I've come on the weekend and ordered from the dinner menu versus getting a lunch special. The place is not that big, but we were quickly seated. Around the holidays, they have a festive atmosphere. I ordered a combo which came with choice of taco. I chose steak. A chimichanga with either chicken or beef (my choice), and a quesdilla. Sides were typical rice and beans. The steak taco was great. The steak was flavorful and very tender. The coating was tasty on the chimichanga and the beef filling was very good. The quesdilla came with cheese and jalapenos and onions. A tad plain and tortilla could have been grilled or toasted. I requested the guac on the side. Their guacamole was freshly made and tasted great with their fresh salsa and crisp tortilla chips (not too salty). The rice was moist. The refried beans were unfortunately bland and could definitely use some spices or seasoning. We ordered the bean dip appetizer and given the bland beans, it could have been better. We also ordered mozzarella cheese sticks - the best I've had. For dessert, we ordered the cheese cake bites which came with whipped cream and chocolate sauce. They were made with pieces of tortilla and coated with cinnamon sugar. I'd come back again for just those alone. So good! All and all, we were pleased with our meal. I have been coming here for the past 28 years and it was my absolute favorite. The Mexican sandwich and botana were my go-to. My last visit I ordered the shrimp fajitas and wife ordered the Mexican sandwich. My food came out and not only was it cold but the vegetables were still crunchy, food had very little seasoning. Almost as if the just added a pinch of salt only. The corn tortillas tasted like cardboard. I sent my order back and this is something I never do. But if I'm paying to treat myself Then my expectations are to be able to at least enjoy my dinner and experience something much better then I could do at home. My food finally came back 25 minutes later. It was warm and fully cooked this time but it still tasted bland. This experience has happened more than once now and what I can say is the ingredients and food is of a much less quality than the good old days. Really great lunch spot with quick service and good lunch specials. They also had some carry out specials posted that looked like a great deal and changed based on the day of the week. They give you unlimited fresh tortilla chips and salsa. The tacos were great- the soft corn tortillas were probably some of the freshest I've ever had. The beans and rice weren't anything special, but were fine with some added salt. The ambiance was very nice - there's a southwestern feel with lots of decorations. Long time loyal Manuels customer. Food and service always the best, until yesterday. Live about 40 minutes away now, but will still make the drive to get Manuels. Knew I was going to be in the area, so called in a carryout order. They told me 15-20 minutes, which was perfect, as I was almost done running errands. Got there and waited about 45 minutes in parking lot! Finally called from parking lot, only to be told they do not have my order, never did. Did not offer to make it right, just another 15-20 minutes to do another order. Told them am not waiting a total of an hour and left. What happened to the great Manuels service??? read more

Came for lunch with a few friends. The restaurant was decorated for Halloween to the max! Spooky noises, black lights & all. Service was prompt, food came out quickly. For a $6.50 lunch combo of taco & enchilada with rice/beans it can't be beat. The salsa & flavor overall was a bit underwhelming. It needed more heat & spice.
