I've come here a few times now, and I keep coming back so that tells you something. This visit was right around their 1 year anniversary. A lot of places lose their mojo after the first year, food slips, menu goes stale. Not here. They keep adding new items and keeping the good ones around. This time I got the Mole Enchiladas and they were bombdotcom. Only thing is I wasn't paying attention and they're just cheese inside. I was expecting chicken. If they made chicken an option this would easily be a top 3 order for me. The unique take on traditional tacos is still one of the strongest things on the menu. The backyard asada and the Otro Nivel are still worth ordering a year later. And the specialty aguas frescas always hit the spot, there's a new concoction every time I show up. Fairly new establishment, located in Southwest Detroit. Quaint and cozy inside. The complementary chips and salsa were delicious, as well as the backyard Asada and Quesa Birria. Probably one of the best we've had in this area. We waited around 40 minutes for our two simple meals to be delivered to our table. Unfortunately, the owner has now decided to do catering, and it has interfered with the dining room service wait times. Tacos Wuey opened its doors in July 2025. Prior to dining in, I was intrigued by the menu. Chef Eddie Vargas put together a collection of fusion dishes you're not likely to find elsewhere. Rather than traditional tortilla chips, meals start with flour chicharrones. The salsa they came with had some kick to it. The birria egg roll appetizer was too enticing to pass up. They were a bit dry, but the arugula and consommé they were served with complemented them well. The spaghetti verde con milanesa was another dish I had to try. This pasta dish features a pablano-based sauce and is topped with fried chicken cutlets. The sauce was mild, and the chicken was cooked perfectly. I also tried 4 different tacos, ranked below: 1. Birria 2. Carne Asada 3. Milanesa 4. Orejón (pig ears) For dessert, I ordered flan. It was simple, but had a nice presentation. Using caramel, Chef Eddie signed his initials on the plate, and topped the flan with a piece of caramel bark. There are numerous quality Mexican restaurants in the Metro Detroit area, but few offer a menu as unique as Tacos Wuey. Great new addition to the metro Detroit food scene! It very much feels like a taqueria in Mexico -- nothing fancy but warm and inviting. The staff is super friendly and the service is quick. The food was delicious. I split the queso fundido and guacamole with some friends and both went fast. I ordered 4 tacos. The Birria tacos might be some of the best in town. Just WOW!!! From the moment you step into the space, you feel a feel a mixture of fun and cheeky plus traditional vibes decor. It's very modern but warm and inviting. The space is cozy, clean and every one is very friendly. I asked if I should get the tacos or the shrimp and I was advised to get the shrimp aka camarones. And holy moly!!!!!! This has to be one of the best meals I've had. The sauce was made to perfection, with the right amount of balance between the sweetness of the plantains and the savory taste of the rice and camarones. The colors were vibrant and perfectly presented in contrast with a dark green banana leaf on the plate. This meal made me feel like I was on vacation some were exotic. The restaurant doesn't have alcohol but you are welcome to bring your own. There's a liquor store just down the road. I highly recommend you trying the camarones with the plantains dish. Came for brunch with my two girls. We enjoyed Birria tacos, Pozole and the asada tacos. Our meals were prepared with fresh ingredients and obvious care- all delicious if not a little under seasoned (a little salt notched up the pozole and tacos). A spicy salsa option would be nice for the asada tacos- but yum quality still and the nopales cooked perfectly! pozole could have used a little cilantro and raw diced onion garnish but we enjoyed it all and will come back for the dinner menu. I guess I'm their first 2 star review. We had 3 dishes none of them were that good aside from the cook on the steak. Waitress was attentive and knowledgeable. She deserved 5 stars. Chips with quaso...cheese was pretty flavorless. Chips were so greasy they were hard to eat. My meal was served on a plater. The meats and beans were incredibly salty. I was still hungry but the amount of salt was making it hard to eat. The other meal was served with a steak floating on top of food. Luckily we kept our app plates otherwise it was unclear how to cut it. The building has a clean sleek look which was nice but the music is very loud yacht rock. With 2 soft drinks and nearly $100 we were totally disappointed since the food was just salty and greasy. I don't get the hype. read more

Checked this place out randomly since I was in the area with friends. I really liked the barria tacos and they were able to make it without cilantro. The Milanesa tacos were okay, but not really something I'd order again. They gave us some samples of sauces. I really liked the jalapeño one. My friend really liked the fish tacos and the barria ramen was good too. Unfortunately the guacamole dip was lacking in seasoning so it was a bit bland. Our waitress/hostess was very nice and checked in on us a lot despite how busy it got. The place is small, but has cute decor and a decent amount of seating. We were given a sampler of sauces, and all (but the bean) sauce were tasty (because I don't like beans, I didnt even try it.) We had decided on our order until Tina told us the special: "carne" something I believe My bf switched to that, and it looked and tasted glorious. He also ordered orejon (pig ears). I had expected them to be rubbery and flavorless. They were the complete opposite. They had flavor & the texture was a soft crispyness. I would definitely eat pig ears again! We got the quesabirria and the spaghetti verde con milanesa for our main courses and both were very tasty. As an appetizer we got the guacamole with pork belly chicharrón. The appetizer was not as good as the main course, and I would not purchase again. The chicharrón needed to be cooked more to have some sort of a crisp to it and the guacamole was lacking salt. My husband got the horchata to drink, which he really enjoyed, but felt there was more ice than horchata. For dessert we had the Dubai chocolate churros, which were really good. Service was great! What a charming little spot! Starting with the salsa and chicharrones, to the specialty salsas brought to my table, the authentic music, and even my waitress singing along to the tunes. There was also a traditional ofrenda set up for the upcoming Día de los Muertos. Starting with the salsa, the main tomato-based one was medium heat, onion-forward, and truly flavorful. The server brought out two specialty salsas: one was a mango habanero, and the other was an avocado Serrano. Both were packed with flavor, mild in heat, and excellent on the pinwheels. I ordered the ribeye fajitas and was not disappointed. Imagine grilling a ribeye, slicing it thick for fajitas, then adding grilled vegetables and serving with pico de gallo, fresh guacamole, and sour cream. I would have preferred a bit more salt on the meat. I tried the churro cheesecake and was somewhat disappointed. It had an excellent presentation, but the "cheesecake" was dense and almost rubbery, and the "crust" was nearly bread-like. The only redeeming feature was that it had that cinnamon churro flavor. The presentations were all spectacular, the food was delicious, and the service was friendly and attentive. Definitely a must-try if you enjoy Mexican cuisine! read more

I really expected better birria here. Very pricey for the area, and a little overpriced for what you get. I was tempted to ask about the $10 miscellaneous charge that was added to our bill but decided to let it go believing it was probably noted on the menu or front door (figured it was one of those food cost increase junk fees that restaurants tack on instead of simply raising menu prices). We visited Tacos Wuey recently, and while the establishment is quite small with limited parking, we found the culinary experience to be unique and creative, departing from traditional Mexican cuisine in an enjoyable way. We particularly appreciated the innovative approach to Mexican food. The horchata with eggnog and jamaica with pickled pear drinks were absolutely delicious, though we suspect they may be seasonal offerings. The appetizer and main dishes we ordered were quite tasty, but we would have preferred to receive three tacos instead of two, as we found ourselves still a bit hungry. An absolute gem of a restaurant. In an area with numerous competitors, Taco Wuey really stands out. The service is top notch and incredibly accommodating. The menu is creative and the chicharróns instead of chips to start is a nice touch. While everything from the tacos to the guacamole app are great, the real star is the Birria and the consome. The meat is so tender and the consome has layers that scream hours and hours of preparation while avoiding being too salty. 10/10 run don't walk to Taco Wuey.
