My new favorite coffee place! The atmosphere - The shop is quaint, cozy, and always smells of freshly brewed coffee. It's always clean, but it gives off a nice rustic feel. I could easily sit in here for hours. The staff - I have never had bad service here. The employees are quick to take your order, and happy to answer any and many questions. I like that they are all so knowledgeable of their product, and they seem to enjoy what they do. The coffee/food - Their coffee is ALWAYS piping hot and fresh. I enjoy that they always have out an assortment of flavors, so I can switch it up depending on my mood. I'm a slave to the Organic Mexican Blend. It has such a smooth finish to it, and it flavor is incredible. I've recently started buying it to brew at home, and my roommate loves it just as much as I do. I wanted to like this place. I used to go to it years ago for the Christmas Blend coffee before I started drinking serious non-flavored roasts and single-origin coffees. But years later, I figured I'd try it again. The customer service was nice, if a little harried with the weekday morning rush. It took almost 15 minutes to get egg and cheese on an english muffin. The sandwich was tasty especially with melter cheese. What I was really excited for was the coffee, but when I walked over to the coffee and went to the dark roast, I knew I was in trouble. The dark roast looked like brown water, and all the other coffees looked the same or lighter. So even though this place is named after their coffee, their coffee is weak as could be. If you're into that, which many folks are, then you're golden. But if you're looking for something distinctly better than the coffee at DD, I'd look elsewhere. In addition, there seems to be no explanation of the origin of their coffees on their website. While they have a few organic coffees, only 2 are fair-trade certified. The rest of their coffees are not organic nor are they fair trade. Considering that this place is in the Valley, it's disappointing how corporate responsibility for how the coffee is purchased doesn't seem to be a priority for them. Could say a lot about this joint. For one, I got news today that they are no longer making their "special sauce", aka, the only speck of hope Shelburnes had to separate their over priced sandwiches from their competitors. The sauce was delectable. I would eat it plain if needed be. On top of this, the women at the counter with the glasses is extremely unpleasant and passive aggressive. The service is just not there. If it weren't for her, I would probably love this place. But when it's 8am and I am half awake trying to get my morning cup of joe, her face is the last thing I'd like to see. Was a regular for the duration I lived here. Loooove this place, amazing sandwiches, amazing coffee, perfect seasonal limited menus and coffee beans, for non-coffee drinkers a wide array of fun and flavorful teas and tea lattes, really pleasant staff and the setup is prime for studying. Half is dark and has an old library kind of vibe with huge tables lots of outlets! Half is bright- perfect for reading books (only one table has direct access to outlets). They have a distinct coffee and sandwich fragrance and soo worth a visit. In the summer they had an iced water dispenser for customers which is thoughtful for those who stay longer studying in the summer. I went through two punch cards- it's definitely a gem. read more

Love Shelburne Falls in Hadley. The workers are friendly and do a great job making the drinks.The manager is super personable and informative about the different products. All of the drinks and pastries I've had there have been wonderful. Their bagels and cream cheese are the best - most delicious, afforable, and consistent - in the Five College area. Their iced coffee is WONDERFUL, and so are their beans. They've done a great job sprucing up the frontroom. I hope the ownership considers renovating the backroom to brighten it up and rip out that old carpet. read more

I am very sadly disappointed in the service at this restaurant the past several times I have come here. This was a great place to go for coffee and a breakfast sandwich.The past three times I have been here they have been short staffed and the wait for a breakfast sandwich is 45 minutes or more. This coffee shop has recently been remodeled and cannot keep up with the demand of their customers. A simple breakfast sandwich should not take 45 minutes. This cute little coffee shop needs to figure out how to service their customers quicker. While I was there I saw three people walk out the door because they could not get a breakfast sandwich in less than 45 minutes. Located across from a main shopping plaza, this place is kind difficult to get to (busy streets, only going one direction), but visible from the road. The inside atmosphere is nice and the people are pleasant. They have a couple great coffee beans for sale, "SUGAR MAPLE" is absolutely wonderful! The aroma has subtle notes of maple, but nothing over-powering. Their "coconut" coffee is also great. If you buy a cup of coffee in the store, don't get the "rainbow blend". I think its a mix of leftovers, but overall kind of acidic, tangy, blah! Their is reading/study room inside as well, but it's very dark. I'm not sure how/why anyone would want to sit there for long, but it's a great place to buy coffee beans! read more

My boyfriend considers himself a bit of a coffee snob so he really likes that Shelburne Falls has a lot of variety and does their own roasting. We go here all the time and it's always a good experience--specifically at this location I'd say there are really nice employees, the drinks are great, and the food is good. Free Wi-Fi is also a plus since you can sit and do work when they aren't crazy busy. The only warning I'd give is that it can get a bit pricey, especially when you begin to look at add-ons, both for the food and drinks (for example, I love iced drinks but the iced chai is an entire dollar more and it's also extra for soy milk.) Just pay attention and you can keep it down. I highly highly recommend trying the cream cheese flavors they make themselves. I love the olive but I am truly addicted to the jalapeno and sundried tomato. So so good. read more

I have bought their coffee at Food CIty in Turners Falls, where it is priced at $12-something a pound. Pricey, yes. But quite delicious. So I thought I'd buy some directly from the company. Yesterday I stopped into their Hadley store and filled a bag of Toasted Coconut Decaf beans a bit over half full. The young woman behind the counter ground it for me and then told me it would be $11. Surprised, I asked her how much the beans were, since I hadn't seen a price posted by the coffee itself. $16.00 a pound she told me. When I expressed surprise, well, really, dismay, she got huffy and explained that the flavoring they used was very expensive. Four dollars a pound more than what they charge for the same coffee at the super market. I don't think so. By then, of course, it was too late to pass on the purchase since she had ground it. I made my first cup this morning only to discover that though this was a flavored coffee--and one I had enjoyed in the past when purchased from Food City--the beans had been roasted dark, nearly French roast, and the burnt flavor drowned out the coconut flavor. I'll stick with Dunkin Donuts the next time I want a coconut flavored decaf. UPDATE: I was contacted by someone from Shelburne Falls Coffee Roasters who read this ad. They offered me a refund for the coffe I'd bought, which arrived today. I greatly appreciated that response. read more

Nice original breakfast sandwiches! Nice tea selection, the employees knew a lot about the teas, they answered all of my questions easily and knowledgeably. The barista taking my order actually suggested getting the iced version of the tea I picked, and I loved it! The bagels are hot and chewy, just how they should be. They also have an extensive coffee selection, and other drinks like juice and other tea drinks! It was a little hard to find, but it's worth a go! read more

The friend I was with also enjoyed her breakfast and coffee. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is that the bathroom was not as clean as it could have been. Came on here specifically to say that playing Christmas music in a coffee shop actually makes no sense at all. I work in a retail store and as much as I hate to say this, it *kind* of makes sense to play Christmas music around the holidays. It puts the idea in the customer's mind (as if they didn't already know....) that it's holiday season and they should buy presents. But a coffee shop? I'm going to spend the same amount of money no matter what music you play. For those of us who are already tortured by bad music at our workplaces, this should be a respite from that. Employers like to say that "the music is for the customers." Well, I'm a customer and I'd appreciate it if you let your *lovely* (great customer service here!) employees play something else. Focused this review on the one and only issue I had, since the service, atmosphere and products are top notch! I adore Shelburne Falls coffee, I really, truly do. I'm definitely a regular and I've tried just about everything on the menu and it is just perfection, ESPECIALLY their coffee. Their flavor infused blends just can't be beat by any other coffee shop, or at least any shop around here. The people that work there always remember me and that feels really great. However, I am a regular who often sits and does schoolwork inside the cafe. I always sit on the window side and therefore I can often hear what the employees are saying. It's mostly just banter and laughter which I actually kind of enjoy as white noise while I study. But my problem is with the manager. I've been noticing this for a while and I've just decided I really had to do something about it. She seems to be quite mean to her employees, picking on them and CLEARLY making them very nervous. Always asking them passive aggressive questions ("why isn't that table clean?") (hey (insert name of brand new employee), what's in a (insert name of really complicated drink here)). When the employees are so nervous around her and have her breathing down their necks, they tend to mess up more. Having had jobs where managers are like this and induce tons of anxiety at work (it's JUST a coffee shop), it really bothers me to sit and do work and hear all of this happening. It also totally affects the atmosphere when the employees are nervous and stilted. Also, please get rid of those handheld menus. Please please please. Bring the wall menus back. read more

I stop in on my way to work for coffee and occasional bagel. $2.00 to refill your travel mug with any delicious hot coffee, $2.50 for a large otherwise. Coffee is strong and tasty, do it yourself milk, sugar, cinnamon etc, which I prefer. Bagels and homemade cream cheese flavors are great, breakfast sandwiches great too. Staff is always friendly, although sometimes seem disorganized. Pastries and fancy drinks can get expensive so be careful. read more

Half of it had the ingredients and the other half was missing them, and the lettuce was wilted. The vegetarian breakfast sandwich seems to be declining.
