It was pretty awesome. I've actually been going to Greg's place off and on for many many years even back when it was our place. I guess you could call it a friendly gay neighborhood bar I guess I gave version of the bar that was on TV called Cheers, if you want to do compare it to any other place to hang out they have darts pool tables a nice patio and there's an overall friendly place to be. I don't know the owner but I'm sure he's very nice and very awesome himself. So I'm definitely giving Greg's Indy a five-star review and five thumbs up. You enter through a tall fence off of an alleyway, so I'm guessing it's challenging to find if you don't know where you're going, but that's part of the fun. Of the 4 lesbian bars we've been to, this place wins for best decor hands down. We're talking zebra print walls, stuffed unicorn heads, yonic art, glow in the dark paint. Great vibes. They have a super cute outdoor patio as well, and I loved the little food truck on the patio that opens at 9 pm! Great waffle fries and hot sandwiches. Nothing hits as right as hot cheese when you're drunk. They have tons of fun specialty drinks on a menu behind the bar! Also a great mocktail menu for the sober community! Everyone was super welcoming in this space. The one complaint I have is the Dj... we came here to dance the night away and barely made it to 11 pm because the DJ didn't play any recognizable songs or songs with a dancing beat. There were only around 10 people on the dance floor at a given time. On the other hand, this is the first lesbian bar I've been in that has had an operational dance floor with anyone on it, so that's a win. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community in Indianapolis, I've supported Metro for years under the…read moreimpression that it was a safe, inclusive space for everyone. Unfortunately, that welcoming facade is completely fake. The blatant bias and discrimination against Black gay men here is unacceptable. I've repeatedly dealt with top-level bartenders who treat me with complete hostility, ignoring me to avoid taking my order or flat-out refusing to serve me altogether. To make matters worse, on one visit I went upstairs and specifically ordered and paid for a call brand of liquor, only for the bartender to overcharge me and serve me cheap well liquor instead. When I've tried to order, a bartender has explicitly told me I had to go order from a different floor because he and his coworker "run things" at their station and refused to serve me. Why charge patrons entry at the door just to turn around and pull these biased tactics at the bar over personal issues with someone you don't even know? He has no problem doing this right in front of other customers because management lets it slide, making it clear that discrimination against Black patrons is tolerated. Instead of addressing whatever personal issue he has like a professional, this bartender has even gone as far as telling other staff members not to serve me either. The truth is simple: Metro only cares about Black gay patrons when they can profit off us, but given the chance to deny us service with zero accountability, they will take it every single time. They've shifted their target demographic over the years anyway, so take your money elsewhere. Spend your Black gay dollars at venues in Indy that actually value, respect, and welcome you.

(OK, maybe not the anniversary of your sobriety.) It's located on 16th Street in Speedway, so you have numerology in your favor. It's mellow and laid-back, like the number 16. (No one thinks about the number 16, so it has no responsibilities. The number 16 doesn't have to do any heavy lifting like 15 or 20.) It has decent food. You can really just relax at Mike's and settle into the hazy fog of canned beer and fried foods. This bar opens at noon, and like a degenerate fiend, I was there right when it opened. A guy who seemed like a regular sat down at the bar not too long after I grabbed a table, and a beer was placed in front of him before he even had time to arrange himself on his barstool. Then, wordlessly, a basket of food soon followed. Mike's Speedway Lounge is that kind of place: It's where everyone knows your name, and if you're lucky, your beer and food will materialize in front of you with little to no effort. This was my first time visiting, though, so nothing materialized in front of me. That said, the service was excellent. There was one woman working when I visited, and she was opening beers, taking orders, cooking, settling tabs, dealing with deliveries and wiping tables all by herself. She also had time to tell me about the length of her father's grass, and that was a pleasant conversation. By the time I left, there were several people at the bar chatting with the server and each other. It was a nice and friendly atmosphere. Speaking of opening beers: There are no beers on tap here. Zero. All of the beer is in cans or bottles. They do have a lot of liquor, though, so they can make you a little something, if you want. The food is OK and what you'd expect for a bar. Burgers and sandwiches come with fries, which were excellent. Mike's serves crinkle-cut fries, and they are perfectly fried, so they are crispy on the outside but soft and mealy on the inside. I'm a patty melt person through and through, so that's what I got. The patty melts at Mike's are served between slices of marble rye bread, which was a nice surprise, but the cheese is American, which isn't my favorite. We also got the Mike's Famous Spanish Burger, which is a super thick burger patty with tomato sauce and bell peppers. Apparently, it tastes like a stuffed pepper made into a burger. So depending on where you stand with stuffed peppers, you will either love this burger, or feel like you need to urgently use the restroom after you eat it. Your mileage may vary. There's a pool table here, as well as a digital juke box, a claw machine with twisted things in it (I can't even say what those things are, because Yelp would probably flag my review), a racing video game (because Indy 500), and a few machines that dispense pull tab tickets. This is an old-school bar for sure. The only thing missing is the clouds of cigarette smoke. This is a no-smoking bar!

As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the female bartender doing shots with customers. She then came over and tried to play it off and said we could sit wherever and gave us menus. Our server came over and brought us water and then told us "whatever it says we have online, we don't have" before walking away. He didn't come back for a super long time and we were about to get up and leave (wish we had) right before he finally came back. I asked how big of a piece of salmon they serve if I were to add it on top of their kale salad and it was a decent size so I chose that for dinner. My husband got the BLT (the whole reason we went there for dinner). I ordered a glass of Prosecco and my husband ordered a beer that they had on the menu up front, but he was told they actually didn't have it. He ordered the Mexican lager instead. While we waited for our drinks, my husband was reading the board by the front entrance and it was full of July 4th specials, but we are halfway through August. Our drinks came out and my Prosecco was great (the only good thing from our entire visit). My husband's beer was bad/flat and he took one sip and never drank anything else from it. Our server either never noticed or didn't care. Then, to top it off, the next day they posted online about having trouble with their lines, so they knowingly served us/charged us for a bad beer. Our food came out and I was IMMEDIATELY hit with a strong fish smell, which is not normal for salmon. The taste was even stronger than the smell and I tried to trick myself into thinking it was because they cook it differently, but it grossed me out and I started looking online to see if it was okay and it is either from it spoiling/improper storage or cooking at way too high of a temperature. From our table we could see into the back that their cooler door was left open our entire time there, so I'm guessing it was spoiled/improperly stored. Needless to say, I didn't finish my food. My husband said his bacon didn't taste fresh, but still ate his sandwich. He said his chips were stale and didn't eat any of them after trying the first one. The terrible dinner combined with the wall behind us covered in a bunch screws and nails poking out with nothing hanging on them, the floors being filthy, and the staff being inattentive made us unsurprised that they only had one other table and a couple of people at the bar while we were there on a Saturday night. I would not return here again.
