We've been back several times now, and it's become one of those places we know we can count on for great food, cold drinks, and a fun night out. If you end up at the bar, ask for Amanda. She's hilarious, keeps the conversation going, and somehow makes the whole experience even better. Great bartenders have a way of turning dinner into an evening, and she's one of them. The first time we visited, I was looking for a steak sandwich on the menu, and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I described to the bartender that day and he suggested the lunch cheesesteak instead--and he absolutely nailed it. It was exactly what I was craving, loaded with perfectly seasoned meat and plenty of it. The burgers have always been juicy and cooked just right, too. But let's talk about the real stars of the show... the fries. Crispy, perfectly seasoned, and somehow impossible to stop eating. Every time we say, "Okay, that's enough," another fry mysteriously disappears. And if onion rings are your thing, don't skip them. The portion is enormous, and the dipping sauce is dangerously good. We wish we could've given a 5 stars but our service was awful and not attentive. She never checked in on us, we had to wave her down. The salad and bread was not brought out at all so I had to ask for it, which was after my boyfriend finished his sandwich which was missing the bacon he requested. My friend wanted mayo for her burger and wasn't able to ask bc our server wasn't around. The Tito's lemonade drink and the teriyaki chicken were good. Shallos is one of the most consistently good restaurants I've been to- everything on the menu I've tried has been great. The fried pickles were unique in that they were pickle spears instead of pickle chips- also served with ranch, and also great. The shallos tenderloin- the meat had a nice grill to it, and the toppings on it were plentiful. I've also had the tenderloin and chicken wings before- both equally as good. We've been going to shallows for years. I can't remember when we've had a sandwich there or a meal. We always end up with the bean and cheese nachos and jalapeños. They have beers around the world. This place isn't what I remember. The tenderloin had literally no flavor...not sure how it is possible, but the meat and breading tasted like nothing. Came here with my husband to try the house-made chips, and they didn't disappoint. We ordered a side of them with ranch dip, and we loved them. We weren't particularly hungry when we arrived, so we ordered French onion soup, a side garden salad, and some pretzel breadsticks with cheese to share. Everything was good. They had an unbelievable lunch special on the day we were there. It was a small filet mignon, salad and baked potato! It was same price as ordering a burger and absolutely delicious. We had 2 tables of "lunch ladies" with 21 women and the service was excellent. One waitress took care of all of us and had a few other tables too! Sadly, when my wife arrived about a minute later, they left her to fend for herself to find me. All good. Our server, Conner, promptly came to the table and took our orders as well as checked in on us throughout the meal. Only negative was that he brought our check toward the end of the meal when my wife was interested in ordering a dessert. He did ask we wanted anything else after I signed the receipt, but the moment had kind of passed at that point. They pride themselves on their wide variety of beverage options. Their menu is extensive, although it lacks actual pricing in it. I selected a Founders Hazelnut Stout (12.75). It was unique and I enjoyed it, just not sure it was worth the cost. My wife chose a cider (8.75), but sadly all of their cider options were sweet and she prefers dry, so it wasn't her favorite. I ordered a Hot Brown (12.99) just for something different, but exchanged what would have been bagged chips for their in-house made chips (2.99). Hot Brown was a large portion, although a little one note in flavor, which may very well be the nature of the dish. My wife ordered the Mahi Tacos (14.49), which were 3 decently sized tacos with good flavor. Not sure my wife is as enthused by the place as I am, but it's a nice local joint with character that serves decent food at a reasonable price. read more

Maybe because I had recently had an amazing fish and chips elsewhere, but the breading seemed a bit too crispy and wasn't a fan of the tartar sauce at all. I asked for sweet potato fries and they were actually amazing--perfectly hot, crisp, and fresh! They were a $4 upcharge though, which is fine until I consider that meant the standard $14 I paid for the dish, was actually just for a couple pieces of fish (my bill was $18). I wouldn't be opposed to trying something else if it's suggested to me again, but I wouldn't go out of my way or choose it for myself. read more

Overall, a great place to get lunch and food and normally I would give it five stars. However, I cannot give them five stars as one of their bartenders has been repeatedly slow, inattentive, and discourteous to where I go out of my way to avoid being served by them. (I have never reached this point, but after attempting to address this with the venue and seeing them try to shoot a dirty look at me when I eventually returned, I felt this was my only course of action.) Everybody else on the staff is stellar, but the management needs to address this issue way better as this one individual is really hurting their bottom line. read more

I had not been in Shallos for years. The hubby and I met a friend there for lunch. I am glad I stopped in to try it again and really don't know why I didn't come back sooner. We ordered the homemade chips and a parm ranch dip and wow was that ever a big stack of chips (only half order), we all three shared them. The chips were nice and crispy, just the way I like them. I thought I would order the Swamp Chicken Nachos. The nachos had a Caribbean sauce that was a little bit sweet and also had an allspice flavor. I also had refreshing cocktail it was a Tito's Lemon ShakeUp. My hubby was happy with his wings as well. He also had a Quaff On Busted Knuckle beer in a bottle. I wish the shrimp had more grill flavor. The chips were there "must purchase" item. I could've gone without them. I have always wanted to try this place and finally got a chance to stop in. I always forgot about it until I was shopping at Old Time Pottery, they share a lobby. It has a very cool, old-school vibe. The dark wood walls are covered in antiques, including some local history items. They also have a bar with a giant retro neon sign. I feel like this would be a good place to watch a game. There's a second story where you can look down into the restaurant but we choose the first floor option. We were by a window which I liked. In most of the other Yelp photos it's super dark which is a vibe, I just prefer the sunlight. We heard great things about the onion rings and they were really good. We ordered an appetizer for the table. Definitely order a half- we barely finished half of the full size with 3 hungry people. It was served with a pepto bismol-y sauce that I think was ketchup and ranch mixed together. It was pretty good too. I had the Buffalo chicken sandwich. It was just ok. It was super messy, I ended up just eating it with a knife and fork. The homemade chips were delicious but between those and the onion rings, it was fried food overload so I'd probably try something different next time. My brother had the swamp chicken sandwich which he loved. And my mom loved her French onion soup too. The service was pretty good. They were friendly but busy and a little stressed. This is a very cool place. The walls are covered in memorabilia and antique stuff. It's been around for a really long time. Way before all of the places that look similar. A few big TVs as well for those who can't do without. It has a huge bar area and seating on two levels. We were greeted and seated by a really sweet and friendly host. She took us upstairs to a booth, smiling all the time. Our waitress came up immediately and was very nice and helpful. She kept checking on us and brought food and drinks quickly. We ordered the homemade potato chips and dip they were really good. Hot, Very crispy and well flavored, not too salty. And the ranch dip was nothing special but paired well with the chips. For dinner we got fish and chips but substituted a side salad for the chips since we already were eating potatoes for the appetizer. The white fish was very good with a crispy coating and fried. Very flaky and tasty. It has tartar sauce which was a little too sweet for me but still good. Excellent experience and the price was not bad. We love Shallo's. We eat there as a family several times a month. We always get the homemade chips and ranch. My go to is the Swamp Burger or the Swamp Nachos. That sauce is on fire. My son loves the hand breaded tenderloin. My middle son kills the jumbo wings. My wife always gets the Hot Brown and Twice Baked Potato. Met with a friend I hadn't seen in person since the start of the pandemic for dinner. There were a few people downstairs in the bar area when we arrived but the restaurant started to fill up and get busy abt 40 minutes later. We sat in a booth upstairs. We wanted to get some mixed drinks but the menu only showed beer but the bartender can make any drink you want apparently. If you know what you want that's great, but if you like to be adventurous then do your research ahead. We ordered a half order of house chips and dip. We went with half on the waiter's recommendation and that is still a healthy portion. Some of the chips were perfectly fried and crispy while others were moist and soggy. Could be because they cooked a big batch at once. Overall they were good and the ranch dressing was delicious. I ordered the steak sandwich with chips and my friend got the tenderloin and onion rings. The food came out and of course, the tenderloin was huge. I got my steak done medium and it was perfect.
