What started in January as a random stop traveling back from Florida has quickly turned into one of those places that feels impossible to pass up when we are anywhere nearby. This place was busy all afternoon, and honestly, I think that says everything about what Killing Tree has built out there. Great wine, great food, live music, a beautiful property, and a crowd that genuinely seemed happy to be there. It feels less like a winery and more like a community gathering spot. Shannon took care of us this visit and was fantastic from beginning to end. The fact that she remembered me from months ago completely caught me off guard and immediately made us feel welcomed back. That kind of personal touch matters and you can tell the staff truly cares about the experience people are having. The pizza was outstanding, the BLT with turkey added on was piled high, and somehow that bottle of Gosh Dang disappeared way too fast sitting out there in the sunshine. There is just something special about this place. Relaxed, welcoming, beautiful, and incredibly easy to lose track of time at. Already looking forward to trip number three.

I also ordered a crispy chicken salad and was pretty disappointed at the quality. I abhor cheese shavings on salad (they don't belong on salads!) and there was just mounds of very processed looking cheese. There was not enough chicken pieces for the price, too many croutons, no onion or enough tomato; just cheap lettuce. They don't serve regular glasses of water here. It was all crushed ice! We suspected they were just pre-wine slushies! This was really odd. There's not real wait service but since we sat upstairs, people needed to bring stuff up so I did tip a usual amount. I had the honor of working on "LT's" production of Meet Me in St. Louis in the 2017-2018 season, so I witnessed first-hand the care that the company puts into not only auditions and rehearsals, but the designs for lighting, scenery, costumes, props, sound, and publicity, as well. Ambience is roomy wine tasting / reception area and dining room--which has a really nice view of the Tuscarawas River flowing by. Nice wine and beer options. Our meals of pasta Alfredo and fish & chips were served in reasonable time, presented well, and tasted great. Server was friendly and knowledgeable. An outdoor deck dining area overlooks the river from nearly the water's edge. We travel through on Rt 36 occasionally and look forward to stopping again.

Found out this Beautiful 29 room mansion was known to be called Trinway Mansion also, Owned by Abolitionist George Willison Adams and was part of the Underground Railroad I would love to go inside one day!!! I didn't know it was haunted when I went, but could certainly tell as soon as I set foot inside. There are pictures and plaques through the building that give information about the history- both about the family who lived there and the house itself.

On our list for our first stop was Gnadenhutten State Memorial Park. The museum was closed but…read morethat's okay. Trying to stay on our budget I prefer not to go into a museum with admission fees plus there is signage along the park that gives you info needed. We strolled around the small park, looked into windows of the Meeting House, a cabin and the cemetery. Free to enjoy outside! A step back into history and story of the 90 Indians including women & children that was massacred.

This is a must see if you visit Gnadenhutten. The cemetery surrounding the museum and historical park is the oldest cemetery in Ohio. It's beautiful and I visit each time I go to this adorable village. We called John who's name was on the door and he was able to meet us at the museum. He is a wealth of information and the nicest man ever, not to mention he is the Mayor of Gnadenhutten. We walked around the museum and I was in awe of all the arrowheads that are displayed, they all were found within 15 miles of the museum. It's not a huge museum, but take your time reading things and watching the very informative movie playing. We were there for two hours and John was able to tell me apart of history that I didn't know. It's such a sad story about the 96 Christian unarmed Native American Indians massacred by Pennsylvania Militiamen. They killed Men, women and children and then burned the whole village down. This happened on March, 8 1782. Two children were able to escape, one was scalped but survived. They were able to tell the story to Moravia Missionaries. In 1798 missionary John Heckwelder returned to the site and collected all the bones he could find. He buried them all in on grave and that mound is roped off at the historical park. I can say hearing the story from John, it was so sad I found myself tearing up. The grounds are so beautiful and today they have the church and cooper house for you go into. They have all kinds of events throughout the year, I wish that I lived closer so I could attend them. In August they have Pioneer Days, the weekend after I left was Apple Butter Days. Thanksgiving through January 1 they have a Christian Indian drive-thru display. If you visit this museum and historical park, please leave a donation. We need this part of history to be displayed and to honor those who lost their lives. So the money helps keep this place going. They also need volunteers, my daughter is going to help out on her day off coming up. Thank you John, it was one of the highlights of my trip meeting you and learning about this time in history.

We walked in and entered the room with all of the bottles for sale. I asked where they do tastings and the staff told us that is in the next room over. When we went in, I asked what we needed to do in order to taste. (there are large signs at the "bar" area that they do not do tastings at the bar). We were greeted with a "go over to one of the tables" but kind of with an attitude like we should have known better to just go over to a table instead of asking a question. Once we did visit a table, there is a list of wines on a paper and pens. You can taste as many as you want, but can only sample four at a time. Samples are 50 cents each. I enjoyed some of the dryer reds, but wasn't a fan of certain specialty ones (the dandelion one really intrigued me but both my husband and I disliked it). The person doing the sampling the day we were there didn't seem to like the fact that I was asking questions about the wine and the winery. There was a definite attitude. Maybe it is because we weren't regulars or seemed like we wouldn't buy or something. But it was definitely off putting. The staff in the front room were definitely much friendlier and accommodating. Overall, a fun stop, but not one I'd rush back to next time I'm in the area.
