I was very hesitant about the thought of getting laser tattoo removal on my eyelids because I've seen gross blister pictures on Google--but on other parts of the body. Rest assured, cosmetic tattoos rarely blister. My first experience with laser tattoo removal was at another business because I saw it on Groupon, although my eyeliner didn't apply to the special. I had only the ends removed so I received a discount anyway. The part-time employees there were super friendly & the pain was as described (like a flick of a rubber band), but I found the InkOff MD business card I got from Beauty Bliss by Mary (who gave my madre the best eyebrows!) which led me to cancel my follow-up appointment with the other business to see Dr. Chung. At Dr. Chung's medical practice, you can guarantee that you get your tattoo removed by a highly trained, licensed physician with the best in laser removal technology. Plus, you don't get a frozen glove of ice to "numb" the procedural area. I've a high pain tolerance, but I prefer the numbing injection that Dr. Chung provided. Due to the nature of my procedure being so close to my eyes, I appreciated the precautions Dr. Chung took to make safety a priority including giving me numbing eyedrops & putting contact-like shields in my eyes for extra protection. Overall, I felt more comfortable here than at the other place. Two sessions later, my eyeliner is gone (combination of cosmetic & tattoo ink)! There's still some pigment left, but I'm satisfied with the results. I paid per treatment so the cost of removal was affordable. Keep in mind that results vary per patient. Apparently, mine was a special case where it only took two sessions. It may be more cost beneficial to opt for the 4-session package which includes 6 months free if more sessions are needed in that time period. So who said tattoos are forever? I interviewed with several surgeons before finally deciding on Dr. Cho. Besides his amazing bedside manner and his ability to put me completely at ease, Dr. Cho was the only surgeon I interviewed that insisted on keeping me overnight in Straub Hospital after the surgery. Even with that overnight stay, the cost was comparable to that of the other surgeons. The other surgeons all intended to send me home after surgery. After experiencing this major surgery, there is no way I would have been able to go home afterwards, much less care for myself during that first 24 hours post-surgery. It's been nearly three years since my surgery and the scars are, for the most part, invisible. Her suturing is amazing and my subsequent pain was minimal. Two tylenols the first night and that was about it. The staff called me the following day to inquire about how the procedure went for me. I've had Botox and Dysport for the lines between my eyes but I had not yet ventured into the world of fillers. To fill or not to fill has been on my mind for a couple of years now and now that my 51st Birthday is approaching I felt it was time to smooth out my smile lines! I've been researching fillers for a while and calling around to find out how much this Birthday gift was going to cost me. Some places want you to come in for a consult and they do not provide you pricing over the phone. I was very pleased that not only did Dr. Herbich's office provide me information and pricing over the phone they also provide a free consultation with Dr. Herbich! The receptionist was very friendly and helpful! I was surprised to find out that the procedures that I wanted were very affordable and that Dr Herbich would be administering the injections! Affordable pricing and administered by a Plastic Surgeon!!! So of course my next question was "When is your next available appointment?" Lucky for me they were able to fit me in that same week! My appointment was yesterday and it went great! The receptionist was so friendly and helpful! When I got called back I met with Dr Herbich and we discussed my options for smoothing out my fine lines and wrinkles. He listened to what I wanted and he didn't try to oversell me, I really liked that about him!! He was easy to talk to and I felt like I was in good hands. Dr Herbich then applied a numbing cream to the areas that were going to be injected and I think that I waited for about 15 to 20 minutes for it to take effect. We then went into the procedure room. Dr Herbich injected some numbing medication in the area that I would be getting fillers injected. He then proceeded with the injections, a few manageable bee sting like injections and some barely noticeable injections and Tadah all done!! I have to go back in 2 weeks after the injections have settled in and Dr Herbich will check to see if we have obtained my desired results. I can already see a difference and I love it!! Didn't want the customer to slip so I took the initiative to bring the drinks to their table. I didn't know colleague mopped in front of our work station and both legs flew up as I exited the swinging door... Torn rotator cuff. After x-rays and an MRI, took some time for worker's comp to approve this procedure and the day finally came. Was given explicit instructions prior to this day and after following them, I checked in at Minimally Invasive Surgery Hawai'i (MIS), which is located on the 6F of Hale Pawa'a. MIS is state of the art surgery center which has a team of professionals who perform orthopedic, musculoskeletal care and spine care procedures. I've never experienced this before and didn't know what to expect so I found myself asking my sister, who has 30yrs experience as a registered nurse, with questions. My concerns were alleviated as I believed in professionals and their knowledge and expertise. I was informed by the office of Dr. Darryl Kan and complied with the instructions provided to me. Upon check in I had my RN sister accompany me just in case I needed clarification and to ensure a smooth process. To be frank I was somewhat concerned as there was not one other patient in the check in area. It was just my sister, myself and the staff behind the counter. I was escorted to the back where I changed into a gown and received instructions as well as the attending professional reiterated today's procedure. Once again, nerve block was explained in simpler terms where I understood. It scared me but once again I had to trust the process. When it was my turn, I was rolled into the operating room where Dr. Kan greeted me in an upbeat manner and briefed me on what's to come. This was done over 8 months ago so I don't recall what happened after except finally waking up to some noise. The nurse (?) greeted and checked up on me. I was a little groggy and she must have read my mind as I was thirsty and hungry. I was offered an array of drinks and some snacks to choose from. When I was post groggy stage, the staff called my brother in law as he was designated to pick me up as I'm not allowed to drive after my procedure. I remember presented with non-slip socks and escorted to the 1F via wheelchair. Overall, I am very pleased and satisfied with MIS as they walked me through this process that was nerve-racking from the get go. From Dr. Kan, his staff and the staff at MIS, I was treated with great care and professionalism.

My journey with painful and swollen knees after running, jogging, hiking, aerobics classes, playing…read moreracquetball, and golfing began over fifteen years ago. Still, I stubbornly, or should I say "stupidly," held out for a year before making an appointment with the orthopedic surgeon my PCP referred me to, Dr. Jay Marumoto, at Queens Medical Center. After a physical examination and imaging (X-rays and MRI) tests, it was determined that I was suffering from bilateral knee osteoarthritis and torn meniscuses. After receiving the diagnosis, Dr. Marumoto counseled me about having the surgeries performed on separate dates. Still, I chose to have both knee meniscus repairs done in one visit at the medical center's Same Day Surgery Clinic. At my follow-up, I was recovering quickly with a great range of motion and experienced minimal pain. Still, Dr. Marumoto counseled me about the osteoarthritic progression and said, "See you in about 15 years." Thirteen years had passed when I requested to see Dr. Marumoto last August, because more pain and stiffness had returned to my right knee. Still, I decided to get knee strengthening physical therapy before our May 2025 trip to Japan and Korea, before deciding on a total knee replacement. The right knee strengthening sessions went well. However, on the second day of our trip, I exacerbated my situation when I tripped on a curb and fell onto my "less affected" left knee and face-planted. Luckily, I didn't need hospitalization or emergency medical attention, so I nursed myself for the rest of our 21-day cruise with affirming thoughts of scheduling a knee replacement on my right knee after returning home from our trip. When I confirmed my desire for the total knee replacement, Dr. Marumoto suggested that instead of having the surgery done at the hospital where there is more potential for nosocomial infection, he recommended performing the Outpatient surgical procedure at Minimally Invasive Surgery of Hawai'i (MIS). MIS is located on the 6th Floor in the Hale Pawa'a Building at the corner of South Beretania and Ke'eaumoku Streets. My husband accompanied me to my 8 am check-in, where we met the friendly and cheerful receptionist, Nadine. I like the electronic check-in process and completed it within a few seconds before sitting with Nadine to confirm my identification, medical insurance coverage, HIPAA protections, and estate plans. The waiting room was chilly, but I didn't mind since I brought a light sweater and wore warm, comfortable clothes. As the morning sun brightened and warmed the clean waiting room, I cuddled in a corner and caught up on reading e-mails. Soon, John, a smiling and welcoming nurse dressed in bright red scrubs, called me to enter the pre-operative holding unit/recovery room, where he took my vitals. Another nurse, Ameika (sp?), confirmed my name, birthday, surgeon's name, and scheduled procedure while settling me into a holding area with a warm and comfy bed. Ameika set me up with IV fluids and let me relax in bed with privacy drapes drawn. I also met with the OR nurse, Jackson, and the anesthesiologist, Dr. Louis Chun. Before discussing any information, each person confirmed my name, birthday, and surgical procedure. Of course, Dr. Marumoto popped in for a few moments to greet me and, I guess, to check on my state of mind since I was excited to get this procedure done. I last remembered being transported into the surgical suite. After a restful sleep, I awoke hungry and thirsty in the recovery room. Ameika informed me that they had contacted my husband to pick me up, and she got me ready to be wheeled downstairs to the porte cochère. Before leaving the recovery room, she provided me with an Ice Man Clear Cold Therapy Unit, although I had prepared reusable ice packs or wraps at home because we don't keep ice cubes. Thanks to the comfortable, clean, well-staffed, and knowledgeable medical and nursing staff, I'm on my way to a positive outcome. Also, because I had such a wonderful experience, I'm looking forward to having my other knee replaced next year, after another planned trip abroad.

The office staff are also excellent and helpful with booking, liasing with other surgeons (if you need reconstruction) and assisting with travel documents for HMSA, etc. The nurses who numb you up are gentle and lovely. What more could you want from a Drs office? This visit I had MOHS on my nose and it went quickly and painlessly and to margins first time. Dr Mori had kindly liaised with Dr Alam at the Queens Hospital for reconstruction surgery the next day as it was a little too large for Dr Mori to close up without a flap. I left Dr Mori's surgery well bandaged and totally numb for the rest of the day, and I had time to waste in Waikiki as he was so quick. I had audio books lined up and didn't even get a chance to listen to one...lol. I was off to Ala Moana Mall for coffee and a cake in record time! Trust me, both of my reviews and the other Yelpers waxing lyrical about this MOHS surgery. They are truly the best 100%.
