She said "I saw you pick it up" and "maybe you forgot you picked it up". This is a complete and utter lie. My friend was actually holding a magazine he had gotten across the street at Banana Patch Studio, a great local owned store. What happened at Lu.la was so rude, and appeared to be racially motivated. My friends are Hawaiian and I am Latino/asian. My friend's wife is one of the most respected physicians on the island and my friend is a noted photographer on Kauai. My wife is a doctor and I am an attorney. To be accused in such a rude manner was utterly unacceptable. The item in question is literally a local magazine available in every store on Kauai. We were given the magazine by the store owner from the shop across the street and walked into Lu.la. with it. Craziest thing is it is a free magazine available all over the island. The general what to do on Kauai you can get anywhere. When my friend spoke to the owner of Lu.la. about the incident, Angela the owner, instead of being apologetic, became hostile. She said "well you didn't buy anything" "is our apology not enough" very sarcastically. Like that was an excuse for their outrageous behavior. We actually left because their store was so hot and the products nothing special. This behavior is not acceptable on Kauai. This is what local Hawaiian's talk about being a problem on this island. The exact opposite of what you get when you shop at local owned businesses. Avoid this place! They do not reflect the values of the people of Kauai. Also, the entire conversation was recorded. My friend was not hostile. He was professional and spoke respectfully. We can and will upload the recording if Lu.la denies their hateful behavior. This kind of conduct anywhere is awful and has to be called out since the owner would take no responsibility for their employees woeful conduct. This store opposite of aloha in every way and not friendly or authentic in any way.

A ring I ordered turns out to still be a little too large and the store manager, Leilani suggested a half a size smaller and then had a special on a Ko'a Diamond one that is being closed out and on sale. So they located one, the last one in the company In Florida, in my size and it's on its way here now to make sure it's the right Koa color to match my gorgeous bracelet. The earrings I got for my wife's twin sister were perfect. I got my wife a pair and then realized, these were earrings to match a ring their late father got them in high school. I realized I couldn't just get my wife a pair and not a pair for her sister too. She's going to love them as much as my wife does. We're waiting for the ring from Florida to see if it matches my bracelet and then they'll ship all to me in California. Problem solver, professional and I give her a 5 star rating given my frustration with the product itself. Kudos to her!! The second part is disappointing, I purchased the koa wood cross on May 20th 2026, and six days later the chain clasp broke. Shouldn't happen with so called fine jewelry. Now this wouldn't be so bad if it weren't for the fact that this is my second piece of jewelry that I am having issue with. I purchased a Black pearl bracelet in June of 2026, the magnetic clasp broke a year later, I brought it into the same location, they sent it to Honolulu and six weeks later I received the repaired bracelet only to have the magnetic clasp break again. The issue appears to be the quality of the product, I don't know because I read good reviews too, but my experience has soured me on the product if it weren't for the great customer service of the Manager.

They have Hawaiian and Oceanic art that are both old and new. You can spend hours looking at each piece in detail. Many of the pieces have amazing stories behind them and the newer ones are from local Hawaiian artist and craftsman. The staff member I spoke to was kind and let me roam freely while explaining which items were made locally. Overall I think that if you want to take home a souvenir that's authentic, beautiful and with great meaning, this is a place to check out and buy from.
