No food just wine and lots of it. The owner is super nice and helpful. The ambiance - not your run of the mill wine shop. When arriving you might be confused as I was. It is right next to the ampm - it uses the main entrance of the ampm so keep walking and to the left you will see it. Come on have a seat and try some good stuff. What an absolute hidden gem! I've lived next to this shop for over a year and only just stumbled into it while getting gas at the AM/PM that it is inside. The place may be small, but it's packed with a killer selection of wine, whiskey, and tequila, all priced more than fairly. The owner is incredibly friendly and made me feel right at home. With our three hour open house quickly approaching, my wife and I had to settle on an activity to keep us occupied. Our selection was something that we haven't done in quite some time...wine tasting! I vividly remember a friend mentioning a tasting room within a nearby gas station. At the time, she couldn't stop marveling over the delicious wine offerings and engaging customer service. With time to kill, we headed to Sheldon Wine Shop. The location of the tasting room is literally inside of the Ampm. Once you enter the Ampm main lobby, make a sharp right and you will see the tasting room. As we entered the area, we were warmly greeted by Lori. Lori led us to a table, inquired about our wine preference (red), and concocted a lineup of samplings. Within a 45 minute period; Lori showcased wines ranging from Zinfandels to Red blends and Cabs. We were impressed with 4 out of the 5 samplings, which is an impressive feat for any tasting room. Lori did a great job of giving background on each sampling, and knowing how to pace the tastings so that we did not feel hurried. When the tasting officially ended, Lori was kind enough to let us revisit a delicious Cab from Paso Robles. The personalized wine tasting experience did a great job of removing some of the home selling & purchasing-related stress that we were encountering. I know that a wine tasting room located within a gas station does not coincide with the "popular opinion." However, I strongly encourage you not to sleep on Sheldon Wine Shop! read more

Lori at the Sheldon Wine Shop is absolutely incredible! I won something through Elk Grove Laguna forums and was directed to go to her for my prize. My boyfriend went and picked it up for me and I was on FaceTime talking to her about how badly I wanted to come to the wine tastings and shop! How in the world did this little place end up at the dang gas station?!! We live, literally, 2 minutes away and have been into the gas station multiple times without even stepping foot inside the wine shop, big mistake on our part! They have $5 wine tastings and the fee is waived with a $40 or more wine purchase. There is a wide range of different wines, from $19 to $75/bottle and up. There are some cute little cocktail tables set up with tablecloths and the second you step foot inside you have to remind yourself that you're in a gas station! It cracks me up! But seriously, this is like a little gem in the neighborhood and we can't wait to go back. I heard they do trivia nights on Wednesday so we're thinking of checking that out next week! First of all this place is literally inside the gas station. But it's operates like a bar, you are only allowed to come inside if you are 21 or over. I had my my baby stroller with me and found out that way that they can't let anyone that is under the age of 21 inside. I think that the only thing that I was put off by because the shop is literally inside a gas station didn't realize you can't bring in a child with you if you wanted to look at some wines. Other than that its a cute little wine shop and they also do tasting there. They depending on what night it might be also have pop up shops there for local business which i think is so great. read more

I find the wine selection and flights to be both tasteful and affordable. There are many choices at Sheldon Wine Shop from vintners that don't sell to the large chains and grocery stores. Would give it a zero but not an option. Went in yesterday and was greeted with a friendly hello. We were seated in the back corner as there was a table up front that was full and the other table up front that we asked to sit at we were told it was taken.( we found out it was actually holding the tasting bottles from the one full table that was there.)We were served one pour and then Neil disappeared. We sat there for 20 minutes and he never once came back to see us,or ask how we were doing. We finally got up and left and as we were walking out he then asked us what else we would like to try. We were never treated this way when Michael was there. Been coming here since it opened but no plans to do so in the near future. read more

Very convenient location. Michael the Manager provides great customer service and is very knowledgeable about the wine selection. Has recommended a few new favorites. I love that he offers us an opportunity to try many of the wines before we buy them. This is great, considering the crap shoot it can be to buy an unknown bottle of wine at a normal store.
