I was in town for the PBR event, and after a long night it was getting late. I grabbed some pizza and wanted a little spice rum to take back to the hotel room to end the night. Naturally, I turned to Yelp, which sent me toward a liquor store on Broadway. As I made my way down and reached the corner of Broadway and 16th, I spotted Tower Liquor right there. Honestly, Yelp failed Tower Liquor because this place was much closer and exactly what I needed. I walked in and found a solid assortment of liquor and beer. I grabbed what I needed and was in and out in no time. I mentioned to the lady working there how Yelp had sent me farther away instead of pointing me to their store, and she commented that it explained why business had been slow. Tower Liquors has been here forever!!!! They have a great selection of different types of Spirits and Ales, the man and woman who run the store are very friendly and helpful. They have great lighting and the store smells great and they keep it clean, unfortunately the store does not open until 3pm but it does close at 10pm. They are open everyday 7 days a week. Their wines and beers come in many varieties from red to white and domestic and imported they also have soft drinks and snacks great place to stop by. I went back in to double check my items because it seemed like a lot for a small purchase. Plus the male worker was correcting the female who was ringing me up on prices right after I purchased. They don't give you an itemized receipt unless you request one specifically which seems shady in itself. They make up their own prices on food, itemize all of it as "soda t" then add .10 for ea item. My receipt said I bought 6 items when I only bought 4. I hate small liquor stores for this reason. Purchased with caution. read more

It sells single cans of beer but the prices are expensive and it isn't anything high end, either. I bought a pair of Carlsbergs and a Stone IPA which came to fourteen bucks. A single Tecate is $4.45. Tower does have deals on White Claw but everything else is priced twice as much as the other stores in the area. read more

Pretty good selection of liquor, and the prices are not exhorbitant... it's more expensive than BevMo, but you didn't have to drive to BevMo. This place will work in a pinch for party re-stockin g, and even to stop off for a mid-range bottle of wine on your way to a dinner party. Caveat: Do not listen to the proprietors' stories about the best liquor. I went in there in a pinch with a friend who works as the alcohol sales guy for the Robb Report (that luxury magazine - his fault for being in my small town in a hurry to get booze :) and the guys behind the counter were making ridiculous assertions and telling completely fabricated stories about the best tequila, vodka, etc... A great place to get your liquor (or porn) needs met. A decent selection of club drinks, beer, liquor and juices to mix with it. The fella behind the counter was very nice, he's a Scorpio like me. The prices were decent as well. They even had fresh limes (and the lime shaped bottle lime juice too) so my vodka cran could be spritzed up when we got to our river destination. I said porn earlier, because I saw quite a few mags behind a make shift cardboard wall that was definitely hiding nono's or yesyes's whichever you prefer, and there are some naughty videos in there too. read more

As many a previous reviewer has mentioned, they do indeed have a great selection of liquors. But I have to quibble with anyone who says they are affordable, especially compared to what you see on the shelves at Total Wine and BevMo. If you need a drink and it's a matter of convenience, Tower Liquor will suit you just fine. I am more of a beer drinker and they are lacking in that department. You won't find some of even the more common microbrews, so prep for your standards like PBR and 12 packs of Corona. But in my mind, liquor really refers to the hard stuff. That they have in spades. I was able to find some rums that I'd only seen at one other business in Sacramento (Corti Brothers). Both places are overpriced so I let the rum continue to collect dust on the shelf. They have a selection of other goods but liquor is really their specialty. Like any liquor store, you'll find the usual vagrants and shady characters loitering in the parking lot. I suppose it comes with the territory. Those who have been to many a liquor store will know these aren't places to stop and make small talk. Get in, get out and get on your way. read more

They have the basic alcoholic's staples, and at a reasonable price. The beer selection isn't wonderful, but they carry a lot of types I like (Pabst, Rogue Dead Guy, Angry Orchard, Scrimshaw, to name a few), and in harder to find sizes. You can't buy a 32 or 40 oz beer anywhere anymore - but Tower has them. They have a decent selection of booze and you can normally find them at the price that is considered the "sale price" at most grocery stores. They also have a decent selection of wine and those silly pre-mixed mix drinks that come in little cans and bottles. Those are admittedly fun sometimes for BBQs or going to the beach. The parking lot sucks and you can encounter an interesting crowd here, but the employees are super nice and helpful, and always offer to carry my box of booze out to my car for me. Yes, my box of booze - you read that correctly. Great quick stop for when you want something different and affordable and don't want to haul your cookies out to BevMo or Total Wine. read more

Great place. Overall wonderful selection of about everything. Good prices, for a liquor store; it can't compare with giant box discount stores, but how could they? You pay more for the convenience. Nicest of people. I appreciate how they are always keeping an eye out for the parking lot. One guy seems to always be poised near the front with a broom, sweeping up trash but ever ready for the ne'er-do-wells. Speaking of the parking lot, it's about the only problem with the place, albeit slight. It's a tad bit small if you're driving a giant truck or SUV, which you shouldn't be doing anyway if you care at all about the earth. Tower Café across the street would likely agree. read more

When you're freshly back in Sacramento after a month or so of SoCal or east coast family craziness and you stop in Tower Liquor to stock up on, well, all things booze, and you grab three bottles of nice on-sale wine; an 18-pack of bud light in a can, four tall-boy Cheladas, and the largest bottle of Skyy Vodka that they carry, and the guy behind the counter looks at you and says, with a twinkle in his eye, "Are you SURE you got everything you need?" it makes me happy to be back home, yes it does. Great selection of wine at affordable prices - we stock up for parties here - and their vodka prices are cheaper than anywhere else in the vicinity of Broadway. Also, they must have discovered some crazy new crackhead repellant because this is the only mini-mart-style place on Broadway where I don't get hassled by some weird dude who either shouts gibberish at me or tries to lurchingly follow me home. I love this place because my family used to own it, so I worked here pretty much my entire life. Granted, it was much better before we sold it in 2005 since we had a better selection that catered to older customers in the Downtown Sac and Land Park Area, but I'm just biased like that. Nevertheless, the family who owns it now is great and works hard to meet the needs of their current customers. Plus, everytime I go here, I get treated really well by the cashiers (sometimes my mom who works here on Fridays and Saturdays due to boredom from retirement!) hahaha Go here and support local family businesses! :) read more

Have been here a couple times due to the fact it's right down the street from my friend's place. Good selection and the prices are good. Only problem I've ever had is when they are out of stock with an item they say come back Tuesday....funny thing is it was a Tuesday when I was told that...lol. Oh and sometimes the parking lot gets a little full which makes it a chore to get in and out. This place deserves 5 stars for stocking my beloved Peach Andre. Parking is kind of a pain, but you are guaranteed to be entertained by the folks working the cash register. Usually they are interested in finding out what parties in the area i am taking my newly purchased liquor to. i appreciate the fact that all of the reach-in coolers are numbered, so if you were to inquire as to the location of the yellow Go Girl, the staff can just direct you to "fridge numba seven, ma'am." The selection of beers isn't that great and the staff wasn't very helpful. They didn't even offer me a bag for what I did purchase, and when I did ask about a beer I was looking for, I got a very short answer without any additional help or advice even though they do deal with the distributor I was interested in. They didn't even seem to know what beer I was talking about, so I'd rather spend my time at a more informed business. read more
