I decided in a very last minute guilt-ridden way to wash the car at my local Chevron gas station/7-Eleven one evening last week. Picked the $12 "The Works" option and drove through. The next day on a sunny morning, my car didn't look too clean. I could see where the scrubbers had struck and where they had missed. They had missed a lot. I was already on my way to work with a busy week ahead. Then the hottest day of the year happened - 107 degrees F. (No, that's not the heat index). Two days later, it rained lightly. My windows now had jagged curtains of dirt plus speckled polkadots of rain+dirt. That's when I discovered that the heat had evaporated my windshield washer fluid. I've been pumping gas at this Chevron station for decades. So I headed over there, plotting to "borrow" the windshield cleaner blade for temporarily improved window visibility. That's when I remembered that I still had the receipt for the car wash. I walked in asking for the manager, and Ryan responded with a "that would be me." When Ryan saw the jagged dirt curtain on my back window, he handed me a coupon for their best car wash, the Extreme, but before he let me go, he went to his own car and hand washed the back window with a clean towel and glass cleaner, explaining that the scrubbers have trouble reaching under the spoiler. The convenience store is pricey I believe because it's next to the high school and markets a lot of teenagers who have no other option but to pay for their expensive convenience prices. Went back for the receipt to see if it would have his name.
