In regard to your response Frank I'll expose again why no one should use you. To start I used you after the break issue we resolved to give you a shot. I bring up that brake issue because it eventually became a pattern of dropping the ball, and repeated issues 1. My car had to be towed because basic logic well known issue for GMC/Chevy 6.2 liter V8 engines have a lifter issue which requires engine replacement. The car wasn't in bad shape as you say. Cadillac dealership said I should have it towed due to the knocking sound. My car has always been kept immaculate. Yes you quoted a fair price, it was Lambs in Lakeway that was ridiculous and most people know they are. The engine took long because they sent the wrong engine and in regards to my finances it wasn't I couldn't pay . I was at the mercy of you and I was nothing but polite every single interaction with you. Your dropped the ball so many times and you actually asked me for advance payment at one point because you needed to pay your taxes . I didn't want to pay you UPFRONT Frank. You fix then pay, that's most every way it's done . You didn't have the money to cover costs which is a concern regarding running a business. I had also just spent money on another car repair and boat repairs . The car sat as I decided what I wanted to do. As far as stating you could have charged me storage you never once mentioned that and I have every phone call that proves that. Pretty shady of you to pull that out on your reply here. Again not on single time did you ever mention storage fees. So please don't act as if it was some favor you did. The car went in for an engine replacement. As you confirmed the day you put the engine in to test drive you call me telling me I need steering column replacement. Yes I have you on recording Frank stating that indeed the lift and big tires were the culprit. The steering was completely fine and it had not been driven once per you as we waited for the engine issue and replacement to be resolved. You now understand why I recorded you. You can't remember what you told me. I didn't struggle to pay you. I had a boat in repair and another car a Range Rover in repair. I communicated to you very professionally. By the way let's remember you had me pay up front on everything. It was the engine that was ordered that was delayed. 2. Regarding the transmission line. Let the public see this post. I pick up my car from Frank and I make it about a quarter to half a mile or so down road and what becomes the problem is the transmission line. Frank I have that call to you recorded as well and your claim that I accelerated or false and blew the line is total BS. It had nothing to do with big tires. I'm saving all my facts, statements from GM certified techs , and video of your guy coming over to "fix" it. Within a day or 2 it went out again and I made you tow it for free. It was your guy that you sent and had him do what he did and sent me on my way and that all was fine only to have it sent back to you. By the way on our recorded call you tried to lead me to believe with certainty it was one thing when in fact you were wrong and called me with another reason. Again grateful I recorded both those conversations. The reputable mechanics I discussed were my brothers out of Houston. My brother owns a professional garage and luxury and collector car biz for 22 years. The other reputable people was a connection I had out of A Cadillac dealer in Dallas. I mentioned this to you and so logically my car stayed locally with you. 3. The whole issue about you spending 200 for the detail I will just say to anyone reading this look at the pics of my Escalade left in his care. Never should have happened Frank. By the way I took a time stamp video of my car before it went back to you. I didn't spill the oil. That's a regular engine oil. Why would I need engine oil to leave in my backseat after you just repaired and did an engine replacement. Again shady of you to blame that on me. And by the way I had to waste 3 hours of my work day sitting there waiting on a detail. Completely unprofessional. 4. I asked you you fix my windshield wiper motor while you had it. You never did. I kept asking you very time you had the car and I have your texts alone that show you forgot several times. same thing Frank regarding the transmission thermostat. I asked you several times, you came out to fix my running board and forgot to get the transmission thermostat and windshield motor. Again pretty crazy you fixed my transmission yet our texts show you dropping the ball on the thermostat. I have lost count on the amount of texts I have that show you never show up on time. Frank, I'm willing to revise this review if you can resolve or clarify the following issues: 1. Starter receipt: You told me you would provide a receipt for the starter you purchased and installed. I have never received it, not in person, by text, or by email, despite requesting it several times. 2. Claimed oil leak: You told me the original starter failed because of an oil leak and said you would send me an estimate for repairing that leak. I never received the estimate, and I have since had the vehicle checked and was told that the claimed oil leak did not exist, nor was the cause of the starter failure. 3. Final price: The price I was originally given was $515, but I was ultimately charged $624, an increase of $109. I have not received an explanation or documentation accounting for that increase. Preferably, we can resolve this directly. Please provide the starter receipt, an explanation for the additional $109 charge, and a refund of any amount that cannot be accounted for. If the $109 difference is refunded and the documentation is provided, I will gladly update this review to reflect that the matter was resolved. I have attempted to address these issues directly before posting here and would still welcome the opportunity to resolve them. read more

IMO, Frank is the worst "Shady Tree Mechanic" I've dealt with in Austin in 17 years of living here. Coming up on two decades, I've owned an average of 3 to 5 "steeds" in my "stable" and need reliable service and repairs on cars from vintage, current models, and everything in between. That all said, I don't often write reviews, but when I do, they're likely a 1 or 5 star review. This is... unfortunately a 1 star. I'd give him a zero if possible. For some context, I'm an IT professional with more than 25 years of experience, as well as a "car guy" since I was was 5 years old, and have wrenched on my own vehicles before I even had a learners' permit. I called Frank on Wednesday March 5. He said he personally would be coming to my home on the following Tuesday morning, which would be March 8th at 10am. I told him exactly what I needed, we sent several texts back and forth and we agreed on labor per hour. As I was providing my own parts, he said there would be no warranties and I agreed on that as well. After I mentioned I'd been here since 2008, he asked for, and I sent him personal opinions about various in-person mechanics in Austin. I sent him a long list of great (and one not so great) mechanics. I then submitted to take time off work to be at home to help out and/or learn about installing a completely new brake system on the following Tuesday. I could _probably_ do this project myself, but I would rather have someone who was certified and had a good reputation to make sure it was successful--and that I wouldn't kill myself due to a brake failure. On the scheduled date of arrival on Tuesday at 8:43AM, Frank text me that his guy "Josue" (instead of Frank) will be arriving an hour late. Fine by me. Shit comes up every once in awhile, no big deal. On Tuesday at 10:21, he sent me a text along with a picture that said "Josue's" truck had broken down (in my opinion, not a good sign of a "good mechanic" having a breakdown) and "bunch of oil", but he would (AGAIN) personally come to help me out ASAP after finishing a job in Georgetown. My spidey scenes started tingling a bit and I suspected Frank or "Josue" might be lying. Mechanics do regularly have a bad reputations, which I don't think is always deserved, but in this case--it most definitely was. As previously mentioned, I am a Senior IT professional. I inspected the meta-data of the photo Frank sent me and found that it had been taken the previous Friday, and not when he was arriving, which was Tuesday. At that point, I KNEW for certain either "Josue" was lying (by proxy) or Frank was jerking me around. I sent him a text with that the photo wasn't taken today. I received no immediate reply. I waited a beat, then called Frank and explained how I knew that story about their truck breaking down was a lie. Frank said "Josue" was not replying to texts, but he would (AGAIN) personally come to help me fix my car as soon as he finished a job in Georgetown. At 1:00 PM, Frank said he was on his way from Georgetown. That's normally a 45 minute drive, even in bad traffic. After waiting over two 2 hours for his arrival, I was fairly concerned that something may have happened, and was not quite pleased in the lack of communication. Again, I had taken the day off to make time for him to arrive early in the morning.I called Frank to find out what was going on. When he picked up, I said "I don't know if you've lied to me once or twice at this point, but I am not interested in your services going forward." Frank said he had just arrived and was, "right outside my house." I asked why it had taken more than 2 hours to arrive instead of reasonable 45 minutes, and Frank replied "Traffic was crazy." I checked Google Maps. Traffic was NOT crazy. At that point, I knew he (or "Josue") had lied to me at least three times at that point, and I politely informed Frank of the facts. I said he had broken my trust and to leave and go away. He insisted that he was right outside my house and could get the job done. He even described the color of my house to convince me. I said "No Frank, you don't understand, you, or your employee have now lied to me more than several times. Please leave. Your services are no longer wanted." He replied, "Okay.", and hung up. I would suggest you look for anyone else other than Frank. He (and/or his associate "Josue") are liars and fundamentally responsible for the "good guy mechanics" having a bad reputation out of the gate, which is quite a shame. My opinion is to avoid doing business with Frank. As a "car guy", I've been swindled before, but you can likely find far better than this business. Please look elsewhere! It has truly been a blessing having come across Frank and his team. From what I understand, the crew is small, but they stay busy, likely because of their great customer service and high skill level. Luckily they've been able to fit me into their schedule a couple times. Serving locations all around Austin and surrounding areas. I had them work on our aging Kias - Sorento (2012) and Soul (2015). I usually try to work on our cars, troubleshooting what I can, and replacing easy to reach parts. But I know my limits & gaps in car knowledge. That was the case with 6-spark plugs, defective O2 sensor, and valve cover gasket replacement on the Sorento and engine compression checks on our Kia Soul. Josué, Frank's mobile tech --- got right to work once he was onsite. And he was perfectly ok with me observing his work on our driveway (so I could learn from his handiwork; asking questions in between steps). What I was most impressed with, is that Frank and Josué both do what any quality mechanics do --- is they try their best to get as much relevant information about whatever seems to be the matter with the vehicle, getting specific about the services you're requesting but most important of all --- is their honesty --- they didn't suggest services I didn't need --- they just focused on the things needing attention. You will quickly realize they care about making sure their customers are satisfied with the work performed. You can't beat the convenience and value of expert mobile mechanics coming to you, sourcing parts from your local Advanced Auto Parts, and leaving you only when the job is done. Frank used to be fantastic but since he has other people doing the work now it's gone way downhill. I've had them out 3 times for the same issues on 2 different cars. Ended up hiring someone else to fix minor issues (battery & accelerator computer reset & service light reset). I've happily given Frank thousands of dollars over the years but I'm done now. The service requested was for diagnostic check on my 2020 Ford EcoSport (Titanium - Turbo) to see what could be wrong with it after a new battery install. I didn't want to drive it due to possibilities of the alternator being the issue as well. Frank and his helper, Ralph, came out and got right to work. The diagnoses revealed less major issues that can economically be resolved easily. Frank and Josue abandoned the back AC deletion I hired them for. My van is inoperable when I handed them a fully and wonderfully running vehicle. This was NOT a repair, this was a "disconnect, plug it and refill" job that I could have done myself but outsourced to professionals since I don't have the right tools to deal with freon nor did I want to deal with properly disposing of either coolant & freon. Repairs started on Monday night but per Josue could not be completed due to the lack of necessary parts. Mind you; I provided vehicle specific disconnection kitS (yes, plural) and bought additional parts in case the job wasn't done "by the book". (I work on cars myself and know there are more than one way to complete a job) Was informed by Josue on Monday night he will buy the appropriate parts from a store "down south" and I will hear from Frank on Tuesday. Today is Thursday and I have not heard a word. Been waiting because I'm NOT chasing after anyone for anything, ESPECIALLY when I'm paying! My van is actively leaking fluids into the driveway, coolant tank is sitting on the passenger side floor and the dog house (interior engine cover) is in the garage. Not only can I NOT drive it due to the missing coolant. The fully functioning AC isn't working any longer because Freon was released, I'm sure straight into the atmosphere without being vacuumed out like it should have been. I've had issues with mechanics on my other cars but this tops them all. I don't get the high rating of this outfit. I KNOW, I cannot be the only one caught is a situation like this. Sadly, there is ZERO recourse for me as I would not allow either Josue nor Frank to come within 100 yards of the van now. My only option is to hire someone else to fix this fiasco and PRAY Frank will do the honorable thing and pay the bill. I cannot recommend Frank and his mobile auto service enough. Communication with Frank was always very fast and thorough. I knew exactly what to expect and when to expect it. One of his team, Josue, came over first to make sure they knew exactly what type of battery I needed. My battery is in my trunk and required a lot of work to get to it. Josue was extremely professional and obviously knew what he was doing. Super nice guy as well. Pros: Fast response, fixed my issue. Cons: Way more expensive than I was anticipating. I was quoted a $100 diagnostic fee to assess why my 1969 truck was not starting. They were here for less than an hour and adjusted the timing by hand and tweaked the idle on the carburetor. They did not replace any parts. The cost was $300--they said they waived the $100 diagnostic fee, so it was a labor charge of $300/hour, which is more than twice the hourly labor rate at a traditional shop. My Honda CR-V A/C stopped working abruptly. As I can't live without A/C in Austin, I looked on Yelp for mechanics and found Frank's Mobile Auto Care with high ratings. I contacted Frank through Yelp and he texted me in under two hours (at 10:05 pm!) He arranged for Josue to come to my driveway and evaluate the problem which turned out to be a bad compressor. They ordered the parts and Josue came back the next day at 3 pm to do the work. I now have cool air again! Josue said they work late if they have enough light.
