1 Star Very disappointed with how Soapy Joe's handled damage to our car. On September 2, 2026, my husband took his car through their drive-through car wash. When the car came out, the right-side taillight was broken. He immediately reported the damage to the staff. The next day, he was told they would not cover the damage because "your car isn't a new car." Really? What does the age of the car have to do with damage that occurred while going through your car wash? Instead of taking responsibility or handling the situation professionally, they simply dismissed the claim. Very poor customer service and an extremely disappointing experience. read more

I had a gift certificate for the highest wash option -- The Magic Joe -- so I decided to give this new (at the time) Soapy Joe's in KM a try. First off, I couldn't even use the card because the reader at the turnstile wouldn't read it properly. Thankfully an employee rushed in to bypass the system and activate the gate to allow passage to my vehicle. Nice dude! It was "free", but this was my last dance with any automated drive-thru car wash after trying all the ones that have been cropping up in the area. It's always *something* that threatens damage to my car... here the mechanized brush about punched one of my side mirrors clean off. Thankfully, it only punched it out in the opposite direction and, thankfully, without ruining its functions and safety features. I forgot how inconvenient it is at the Soapy Joe vacuums... only a single nozzle on one side of your vehicle. It's a hassle having to snake that thing through to the other side... The complimentary car freshener also smells like a dude and makes your head hurt. Easy enough to exit, but you can only enter if you're going North on Convoy. All this to say... if you have somewhere to hand wash, just don't risk it with these drive thru washes! Had to remind myself of that, but thankfully nothing too drastic happened this time around. read more

A $13 car wash ruined my vehicle. I washed my car, then went home. As soon as I parked I saw a large scratch on the hood. I contacted them immediately and this was their response: "An incident report must be submitted on the day it occurred before you leave the site." Pursuing this by returning back to the location would've been a lost cause as they would've just dismissed my scratch by claiming I got it elsewhere, perhaps on the way home or something akin to this. A piece of metal, rock, etc could be on the washing mechanism which messed up my car. I will never go to another Soapy Joe's ever again. read more

It's so amazing to be offering us a free car wash, thank you soapy joes and the Padres. However, the vacuum stations were really disappointing. They barely worked and made it difficult to properly clean the car. It wasn't just me either -- the guy next to me even asked if my vacuum was working because he was struggling with his too. I told him mine was the same, and he ended up moving to another section to try a different one ( not sure if he got luck ). I don't know if we're just two unfortunate people that day, but that would be so frustrating for clients and that could hurt the business tremendously. read more

SOAPY JOE'S @ CONVOY This was my first time visiting this Soapy Joe's location, and I absolutely loved everything about it. I went around the evening, about 4 PM, and there was no line at all for the car wash. We easily chose their Magic Joe wash, which is about $25, and it was definitely worth it. They also offer a monthly subscription, which is something I'd consider after this experience. I loved all the different soaps they use, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, especially when guiding us on how to put the car in neutral. Soapy Joe's usually only gives you one air freshener, but we asked for an extra and the worker ended up giving us five, which was amazing. The scent was definitely on the stronger side sweet and fruity and honestly smelled really good. I personally loved it. The actual car wash itself takes about a minute or two. After that, you can choose any open spot to vacuum and wipe down your car. This location is huge, with so many different vacuum spots available. Even though it was a bit crowded in that area, the vacuums were super strong and made it really easy to get dirt, hair, and debris out of the car. I also really liked their blue cloths, which were great for wiping down the dashboard, windows, and other surfaces. Overall, I had such a great experience at Soapy Joe's. What is the process? I try to come late at night because it's less stressful. Quality of wash 1/5. Needs improvement. Value 1/5, times are tough. You gotta pull up and do a good job and provide a quality product, service, etc. In terms of quality of washes, not great. I've been here quite a few times, but was extremely disappointed by my last time here. The kiosk system basically pressured you to purchase an unlimited wash membership which I did not want at this time. It would not let you exit. Other cars next to me were also having issues. I only wanted a single wash as sometimes I get my car washed full service at other places. It took an extremely long time to exit out with cars behind me, I clicked the button for an attendant for help and the attendant never came. My other experiences have been better. They offer vacuums, towels, and an air freshener. It's a quite busy place. This location is quite big compared to some of the other soapy joes. My husband got a welcome gift when he activated the yearly membership. I like this location it's pretty new. There are more than 20 vacuums. If I needed assistance someone is usually at the entrance, before you enter the car wash, and refilling the towels. With every car wash it comes with an air freshener. Every now and then they do giveaways or offer discounts. We have bought our membership at Costco a few times at a bigger discounted rate. Overall, we have been happy with our membership. read more

I'm no stranger to a Soapy Joe's! To be honest, I'm not a clean freak about my car, but I'll hit a Soapy Joe's if it really needs a wash. It's really the only place I'll go for a car wash, because it's actually kind of a fun experience. I love that it's fairly affordable and you always get a great wash. This location in particular was opened recently so they've got a great modern car wash and tons of spaces for vacuuming. Every time you go through, you get an air freshener. But, I'm not sure how they choose when you get other special gifts. The last two times I went I've gotten little goodie bags with things like a dash wipe and towel inside. The towels are excellent. So absorbent that I actually use it on my bathroom counter instead of my car. If you go to get your car washed more than twice a month, it's worth it to join their membership. Carlos at the Soapy Joe's in Sabre Springs was very helpful and generous. I ended up getting one free wash thanks to him. I had walked to the office ahead of time to figure out why I got a text message two days ago saying that I still needed to use my free car wash coupon from the San Diego Padres when I explained that I thought I'd already used it last month. He said pull on up, he'll check it and if it's invalid, he'll go ahead and wave me through for free. Well, that's exactly what happened, apparently the text message saying it was still unused was sent in error, yet Carlos opened the gate and allowed me to get a free wash today. I've been going to this location for quite awhile. I like the fact that they have additional stations with an air gun to allow you to get any water stuck in the crevices. On several occasions they have run out of towels at the stations so you're walking around looking for any towels. One time, I was lucky enough to find one towel and I used some of the free towels they give to members to finish the job. The towels are always damp though. The vacuums always have good suction and everything is always in good working order. I like that you get free air freshener (sometimes it's a Padre or a Christmas one) every time you go through and for members you get a goody bag filled with items to help clean your car. I've tried several Soapy Joes locations and this is one of my favorites so far. read more

Horrible customer service. I purchased their premium monthly membership and they sold it to me happily, in person, in my vehicle. I have an F150 Raptor. The teenaged employee (whom was nice and polite) said nothing about them not recommending my vehicle for their wash. The wash cleaned only 60% of my truck, the entire back window was left dirty. The kid told me to run it through again, I did so, same dirty result. I waited the weekend for their customer service department to open. Spoke with Michelle this afternoon, very unprofessional and rude. She acted like it was my fault for not reading the fine print on their website about how they don't allow Raptor's through their car wash. The clearance's posted on site say my vehicle fits. They wouldn't refund my membership in full, only a small credit because she said I already used the services rendered. So I politely asked for a manager to call me back. Just got off the phone with Donald, wow is all I can say. Well, that and the fact he shouldn't be a manager of anybody or anything, let alone a business. Completely standoffish, unprofessional, and ridiculously rude, just like Michelle. To the Owner of Soapy Joe's, please train your employees better and find customer service representatives whom treat the consumer with respect, and fair judgement. Michelle could/should definitely be re-trained. As for Donald, I'm not quite sure a re-training program would pay dividends, and it's probably better to just let him go, terminate his employment, and cut your losses before he puts your business in the negative. I will now be contacting AMEX for a chargeback, supported by pictures and call logs of my conversations (written, not recorded audio). (Case 3:25-cv-03119), filed in November 2025, alleges the San Diego car wash operator violates the California Automatic Renewal Law (ARL). FORMAL COMPLAINT -- Request for Investigation Against: Soapy Joe's, Inc. Location: Convoy St, San Diego, CA I am filing this formal complaint to request an investigation into the fraudulent business practices and unauthorized credit card charges conducted by Soapy Joe's, Inc. 1. Unauthorized Membership Enrollment (12/08/2025): On December 8, 2025, during a visit to the Convoy St location, an attendant enrolled me in a $19.99 monthly membership without my permission or affirmative consent. When I immediately discovered the enrollment and requested a cancellation, the attendant stated it was "too late" to cancel and forced me to attempt a difficult manual cancellation process later. This is a direct violation of the California Automatic Renewal Law (Bus. & Prof. Code § 17600), which requires clear and conspicuous consent before enrollment. 2. Failure to Provide Written Acknowledgment (12/08/2025): At the time of the alleged membership enrollment, no receipt, carbon copy, written agreement, or confirmation of any kind was provided. I was given no documentation showing membership terms, pricing, renewal schedule, or cancellation procedures. This is a direct violation of Bus. & Prof. Code § 17602(a), which requires the business to provide a clear acknowledgment that includes the automatic renewal terms and a toll-free number, email, or other mechanism for cancellation. Without such documentation, Soapy Joe's, Inc. cannot demonstrate that affirmative consent was obtained. 3. Unauthorized Price Increases: Following the initial unauthorized enrollment, my credit card was subsequently charged $39.99 per month -- double the original $19.99 amount. I never agreed to this price, nor was I provided any written or verbal notice of a price increase for a membership I never authorized in the first place. This constitutes an unauthorized charge and a further violation of the Automatic Renewal Law, which requires clear disclosure of pricing terms and advance notice of material changes. 4. Fraudulent Transaction / Overcharging (03/23/2026): On March 23, 2026, I visited the same establishment and selected a one-time car wash package advertised and selected as $25.00. Despite the physical receipt indicating a $25.00 charge, my credit card was processed for $30.00 -- a $5.00 overcharge with no explanation or authorization. 5. Failure to Remediate (03/24/2026): I returned to the establishment on March 24, 2026, to resolve the $5.00 discrepancy. I started to get a car wash at this location. I paid the machine and drove to the car wash entrance. The attendant handed me an air freshener and waved me through. My car was moving with their machine pushing me like every other car. As I was moving forward it looked like I was getting too close to the car in front of me, and it just kept going. At the last second I hit the brakes because the moving track would have crashed me into the car in front of me. My car tapped the car in front of me. The Asst Mgr., Alex stopped the car wash. He told us to go to park so we could sort it all out. After we parked, Alex was very insistent that we fill out one of their forms. The other party seemed confused about what was going on. We looked at both cars to see if there were any damages. My Prius had no marks at all. The other driver had a RAV-4, and I could not see damage on her bumper, but she pointed to two tiny indents on her flexible bumper. However, when I looked at the two cars side by side it was clear that the design of my Prius could not have made the indents. Alex was most unhelpful. This whole event was really a non-event, but he kept pushing us both to fill out some Soapy Joe's paperwork. He would not answer any questions but could only repeat the company line of we had to fill out his paperwork. He did more to aggravate the situation than calm it. Plus, my car dried in the sun leaving water spots while Alex was lecturing us. When I asked him for another wash because of this - he said he would not do that. In summary, I stopped by the Soapy Joe's on Convoy for a simple car wash. I paid my money, was given an air freshener and sent into the wash where their track that was moving the cars ran me into the car in front of me. Then I was harassed about filling out some form and then finished my visit by Alex refusing me another car wash to fix the spots that his delay caused. Wow... Ok, to test the waters I didn't wash my car on purpose from the last time it rained in SD (about a week ago) I wanted to see if it was worth getting a membership. First off, thank you for the free wash. Although it didn't do much but just move the dirt around on my car and probably scratch my paint. It was still a generous offer. Btw this location is not lowered car friendly, my car sounded like it was struggling going through. Also it stopped towards the end and the alarms went off because of the car in front of me. When I went to wipe down my car, my car wasn't clean at all. I didn't want to smear dirt and scratch my paint. So I didn't bother wiping it down. I figured to just wash it at home. The vacuum I used literally was either already broken or I got amazing strength Lol. I was so frustrated trying to vacuum and hold it together I gave up and left without vacuuming. The employees hover over you and aggressively push memberships instead of letting you complete your purchase in peace. I was told three times to remove my card while I was already doing exactly what the screen instructed and moving as fast as I could. Newer location that expanded the number of spaces to dry your vehicle. I really like how the new spaces also have the air compressor to blow excess water from the crevices. Staff are very nice at this location. I frequently go there first thing in the morning, on the weekends and receive great customer service. Shout out to Uriel and the African-American lady there. I'm creating this post to warn people about damage to my daughter's car caused by Soapy Joes car wash. I noticed the damage and asked my daughter about it. She was in the car and heard loud banging noises as she was fed through the wash line. When she got out after the wash, part of her grill was up on the hood by the bottom of her windshield on the passenger side. Whatever caused the damage also broke both headlights along with the grill. My daughter says there's a "no liability " sign before entering. Buyer beware...... I'll never go there. I don't enjoy being stopped at the pay kiosk by the workers about getting signed up for extra washes for less. Then I get, " do you want your receipt? " After they take your credit card and swipe for you. Then when you say "yes", they say, "oh you have to go inside for your receipt " I wouldn't have been dissatisfied if it didn't happen before a couple of weeks earlier. The staff in the office were nice and it took a little time for the cashier inside to locate my receipt. Hopefully they can fix the Kiosk so that the receipts are available for everyone and not go so much on the upselling. But I think I will find another place to wash my car. read more

After I got my car washed the first time I still had some stuff stuck on my car and she offered to give me a monthly membership so I was only charged $2 to go through the wash again, then offered to cancel it so I won't get charged for the following month. After that she quickly tried handing washing my car so the stuff would loosen up before I went into the drive thru again. After the second time I just had to wipe some of it down but it all came off! The customer service at this car wash has always been friendly and professional, and I appreciate the value they offer. However, after my most recent visit, I noticed some new imperfections on the passenger side of my vehicle...including small pits, scratches, and what appears to be a minor crack. I brought this to the attention of the staff, and they responded quickly by inspecting the equipment. The inspection was brief like under 1 minute, and while they didn't find anything that may cause damages like pits and cracks on the passenger side, I personally felt it may have benefited from a more thorough check. I'm not certain the damage was caused by the car wash, but the timing was concerning enough for me to raise it. I got the one year pass, for which you have a sticker/upc code that is placed on the outside of the driver's side on the front. It's the $25 wash that I am able to get unlimited for the year. I got a microfiber towel and some car deodorizers prior to entering the car wash with my vehicle in neutral. It's fun (and a little scary) to sit in the car while it's being washed by the scrubbers and brushes. This Kearny Mesa location has lots of vacuuming stations which by the way, you could use prior to entering the car wash. You really could spend more than 5 to 10 minutes easily on the vacuum. The suction is stronger on the smaller vacuums that have a small round hole instead of the ones with larger opening. The people who work there are really nice. read more
