Although I haven't seen Dr. Susman in many, many years, I felt compelled to write this. I have four children, and thusly have a rather vast experience with OBGYN doctors. Dr. Susman stands head and shoulders above the rest. I have never had such a humanizing experience with a doctor. She allayed my fears, put me at ease, and treated me like a human being. I will never forget Dr. Susman and I am also glad I was able to be a patient of hers. She was nothing short of incredible and has since become the basis of comparison for any other doctor I see. Everything was great....until I hit menopause and then was ghosted by Dr. Susman and staff. After multiple calls and emails....nothing. I get that people don't go into gynecology because they love dried up vaginas. I just figured a doctor of a certain similar age would be more sympathetic and helpful. Very disappointing. read more

Doctor Susman is a treasure! I've been a patient for over 20 years and couldn't imagine a more attentive, inclusive, and welcoming OBGYN experience. She's been with me from my reproductive years through peri-menopause, and I've felt supported and heard every step of the way. The waiting and exam rooms feel more like a cozy and eclectic Pottery Barn Spa Retreat than a medical practice. Comfy club chairs and throw pillows in the waiting room, a chic restroom with heated toilet seats, and exam rooms that make me feel like I'm visiting my adoring great aunt's house, NOT a medical practice. Also, and I know this is a small thing... but she has padded satin hangers for your clothes when you change into the exam gown. Further, Doctor Susman always makes me feel like she has all the time in the world to spend with me. She takes time to answer my questions, offers solutions, and is empathetic and caring. Her medical and support staff are so lovely, too. When the time comes for my teen to see an OBGYN, I have no hesitation in entrusting her to Dr. Susaman's care. read more

As everyone has stated before, my experience there was once great, but as the years have passed it has declined so much. I have messaged this doctor multiple times, even contacted the staff multiples times and no one calls me back, or messages me. It has been weeks and almost feel like I am being ignored. While I understand that Dr. Susman is in the hospital, it seems rather hard to understand how patient care is not important to staff and or possibly the doctor. As a office manager for a doctors office myself, I can not seem to understand how you can not have staff follow through, or even the doctor on patient questions that they need help with, especially if it deals with someone bleeding out. The girls in the office seem to brush you off, and do not seem sympathetic to your concerns and/or frustration when you tell them that you have received no response in weeks. All they say is, " I don't know". Then who does? As a staff, or if there is a manager, its everyone's responsibility that a patient is taken care of in a timely manner. The interesting thing is that they are good to notify you of charges, using the same service patients use to message the doctor, but NO ONE see's my messages. Rather ironic. I wish them well, and hope that they're never stuck in a situation where they need to be heard and understood. read more

I just saw Dr Susman today for the first time in 30 years as I had moved away from the area and recently returned to the San Fernando Valley. Dr. Sussman was exacly the same way I remembered her from close to 30 years ago. She's a no nonsense, kind and efficient doctor, who's both personable and professional. The pelvic exam was quick without any discomfort whatsoever. Her office is conveniently located next to the Tarzana Medical centers and Hospital and offers free parking! How refreshing! Worst experience I've ever had with a doctor and its office. FACTS OF VISIT: I saw Shelly Susman once back in October 11th at 10am, 2021, I waited 35 minutes watching movie Titanic in the waiting room (the doctor's office was not busy, I was the only patient waiting at that time), and then finally asked to go into the patient room where I waited for another 5 minutes, and then doctor came in and we briefly talked about my situation with no exams done that's about 10 minutes. Then I came out paid my co-pay which is $80, and I got back to my car at 11am. The brief conversation was nice and calm, but I was not feeling the whole process so I never went back for a re-check. PROBLEMS: 1. BILLING FRAUD And then I received a bill charging me 45-59 minutes of time which is $363 total. SO THEY ARE ACTUALLY CHARGING ME FOR THE TIME I WAS WAITING AND WALKING. 2. Billing Administration: The billing office could not figure out my insurance situation. I provided the CORRECT insurance information. Then the billing department saying they have trouble processing it in a letter. So I called their billing department upon receiving the letter and I called my insurance, and my insurance company sent me a letter stating they are working on the claim a couple weeks later. SO MY INSURANCE IS ALREADY WORKING ON THE CLAIM. I visited 5 doctors office in the past 4 months, and this is the ONLY billing department that could not figure out the insurance situation (and their co-pays are all $60 per visit), I wonder why. 3. Office Administration: I emailed and called the office ahead before and upon the billing issue first occurred to set some communication straight in a very polite manner. And I did everything I could with their billing department and my insurance. The problem is, the administration is not doing their job. I told Stacy in one of the later phone calls that I have already done my duty and she did not believe it and she was rude to ask me to send proof and so I did in email, and up to today, Stacy never replied to any of my emails. I also raised the question about the billing time of 45 - 59 mins, and she said "Oh I asked Dr. Shelly Susman and she said no, the time is true and the bill is correct." I think you should check your own camera if you had one because I have SOLID proof of the timelines on that day that doesn't indicate so. And at this moment, I have lost my patience and benefit of doubt with this inefficient nonsense. Yet Stacy keeps calling and harassing me instead of working things out on their end even when I told Stacy that I just had a surgery that need recovery at the moment, and she threatened that I would be stuck with the bill personally and she would send the bill to my home and she hung up on me. I have done my more than fair shares of repeated calling and communicating this issue for them and fact is my insurance company has confirmed about working on the claim. Stacy keeps harassing me for NO REASON. If feels like I put the food right by your mouth and you refuse to eat it, and instead you choose to bite my hand. AS a sick person who has been going through life crisis physically, this doctor office has imposed tremendous mental distress repeatedly on me that has negative effect on my sickness and surgery recovery. They are ruthless in pursuit of petty cash they do not deserve, and they are imputing their incompetence on their agonizing patient in an inhumane way. I did not have to write up this review, the cash amount involved certainly did not worth my time especially on top of all the callings emailings I have done, but the fact that it is so unfair and conducted in a such unprofessional and obnoxious way, I feel it is the right thing to do for the well-beings of all the patients out there. Every patient deserves to be treated by medical doctors and staff with respect, care, good moral and competent administration. I would leave this review a two star if the doctor's initial diagnose of my illness back in October turned out to be true, but sadly my final diagnose with two other prestigious doctors and lab results indicate otherwise, and all of their bills went through with exact same insurance WITHOUT me having to make a single phone call to billing nor insurance. Anyways, Mandatory One Star for FREE parking. This lady should not be running a business. I've waited every single time I made an appointment. I just waited 30 minutes, being the first morning appointment. When I asked the staff how much longer they advised me that she was on her way. When I asked if you can let her know I'm here and waiting they replied we usually give her time to get here before texting her. Which got me thinking she's probably mean and entitled to her employees. I decided to leave and will be finding another doctor. My other two appointments with her were very short and she does NOT take her time with patients. It's very in and out. She also called me babe which I thought was weird, as my doctor! I love love Dr. Susman, her staff and her comfy cozy office. I've been seeing Dr. Susman on and off for 10 years for my regular gyno check-ups (depending on my insurance coverage at the time). I am now seeing her for prenatal care. I have never been disapointed with her level of care and attention. She's never in a rush. Always listens and provides honest educated advice and treatment options. I honestly do see how some may see her front office staff as a bit detached, however they are very warm and attentive under the initial surface encounter. I've always had all my calls, questions and lab results returned and answered promptly. The best extra are all the little touches in her office. Heated toilet seat, fancy soaps and lotions, hygiene/feminine products in each exam room, cozy decor and Grey's Anatomy is always playing in the wait room! #1 recommended Dr. Let me say how impressed I was with Dr. Susman. I didn't have the best experience with my first birth with a different Dr and it ended up being a c-section. For my second birth, I was determined to have a vaginal birth and thanks to Dr. Susman, she made it possible for me to have a successful VBAC birth with my second child who was born 5/26/20. Every Dr. apt, she was very professional and caring. She listened to my every concern and respected my voice of opinion as well as birth plan to have a natural pregnancy & delivery. With the whole COVID-19 pandemic, I was so anxious during & after delivery in hospital. As I could only appoint 1 person to be with me during entire time, I had my doula assist me during my labor. When it was over, I wanted my husband to be with me over the night until discharged and ther hospital staff refused to allow my husband access to stay with me. (Hospital regulations) Dr. Susman fought for me and made it possible for my husband to be allowed access to stay with me overnight so that I would not be alone. Not quite sure why such bad press on her staff, the nurse and front desk were always kind and greeted me. It seemed like she was not really interested in having me as a new patient based on how little of a history she obtained or questions she asked. Then I had a MAJOR problem with her billing department and I ended up over paying. They still have not refunded my money. They don't return phone calls. I wish I had read the reviews before I booked my prenatal appointment here. I started seeing Dr.Susman a couple of weeks back. I liked her and I felt comfortable with her. Her front desk staff and nurse..not so much. I didn't let that affect how I felt about her though and I was there to see her and not deal with them. Well, I should have taken the front desk staff and nurse as a precaution. I had some blood work done and was swishing results. Weeks had passed and I hadn't heard anything. I called the office and the girl who'd answer the phone who know I'm assuming her name is Annie by other reviews, was always so rude to me. Again, brushed it off and gave her the benefit of the doubt. I called 5 weeks after I'd gotten my work done, plenty of time for results to come in and still them saying nothing was there. Next day, results were in and they were given to me. Minutes later I get a call back saying to call the office. Turns out the results that were given to me were SOMEONE ELSE'S!! I was livid but didn't make a deal about it. Apparently my results never came in and I was told to call back two days later because the lab needed to run a test again? I then received a call back and was told the results were in and they were opposite of what I was told the first time (granted, first time the results weren't even mind). Keep in mind I am pregnant and this staff is PLAYING GAMES!! I couldn't believe what they said anymore and asked them to email me results. They emailed me the file which had all in the information, including the results they'd given me 1 week prior, all in one file. They had all my results the whole time but the staff thinks it's funny to mess with people and make their life miserable since they seem to be pretty miserable themselves. I had called on several occasions during this time and left messages for Dr. Susman to call me back. I thought at first she wasn't receiving her messages but I'm almost positive she was just dodging my calls. I emailed her telling her I had an urgent matter and that was when she called me back and acted irritated and as if I was wasting her time. I told her what had happened and how I did not appreciate how I was treated and all the issues is encountered. Her response, "we're only human, we make mistakes." I understand people make mistakes but this was beyond a mistake and I should have at least gotten an apology. This is unacceptable and I cannot believe that this is how an office is run. You are dealing with people's lives and their unborn children. This whole office is completely unprofessional and if you want to be treated with respect, do not come here. I don't know this doctor as my OBGYN, all I know is she was on call at Sherman Oaks Hospital the night my tube burst. SOH is NOT equipped for anything OBGYN and surgery related and I almost died. Had Dr Susman not answered her pager that night I might be dead. She performed and emergency open salpingectomy. I have 1 tube let but 2 ovaries, healing took about 4 weeks. I never got to thank her because she left the hospital after surgery but I hope she knows I'm thankful for her now. read more

I have had a horrible experience in regards to continuity of care. A burst ovarian cyst sent me to the hospital where I was recommended to Shelley. I went in for my first visit where she confirmed two large cysts and I was scheduled for surgery. I had surgery and my family was informed that I was diagnosed with severe endometriosis. I received no follow up call in regards to my recovery and called to schedule my appointment. I showed up for my appointment to have it canceled the moment of due to an emergency with another patient. I have not received any follow up from the doctor or her office since. To me being cut open is a huge deal. It's my body and this diagnosis is no joke. I expect my doctor to support me on my journey and provide a treatment plan. Dr. Susman and her staff are wonderful. I never have to wait very long. I'm usually in and out for my routine prenatal appoinments in 20 minutes. She is very empathetic (when delivering me bad news about my miscarriage) and enthusiastic (about my current healthy pregnancy). I would think my pregnancy would be business as usual for her but she seemed almost as excited as my mother! I'm not a super needy pregnant lady but when I do have a question I just send her an e-mail and usually have an answer within a few minutes. She must check her e-mail between patients. I've waited a long time to write this review and know I should have done it much sooner....This is literally my first review ever on Yelp. I started going to Dr Susman after she took over the previous Dr's practice whom my mom had gone to so I started seeing her as my OBGYN. I thought Dr Susman was sweet and kind but the series of unfortunate events is really upsetting and hope it saves a few people from going through this. When I was 34 I had a conversation with a coworker who was going through fertility problems older than me. She said if she could go back in time she would freeze her eggs and told me to 100% do it since I was still single and definitely wanted kids. She had said that since I was 34 I needed to jump on it before my egg quality changed. I went in to meet with Dr Susman and said I wanted to look into it.........I vividly remember her saying, "don't worry dear, you're healthy. You don't need to do that." Didn't give my any fertility Dr recommendations to at least meet. Just basically no, don't waste your money. Cut to 37 years old and in a relationship. My Aunt had told me there was a fertility test I should take to see how my eggs were. At the time I knew nothing. So again, go to Dr Susman and ask her about it. She tells me to go downstairs to get a blood test. I go down and the woman tells me it should be taken on day 2-4 of my cycle. I was not even close to that but said that she told me to come down and take the test so it must be ok, right?! After taking the test she NEVER called or contacted me. I got a paper in the mail and all it said was "fair" so figured that's fine?? I mean I was 37.... Well I get married in 2016 and start taking the ovulation tests to start trying to finally get pregnant (just turned 39). I took them for 3 months but they weren't saying I was ovulating. So again, I go to Dr Susman and at the same time get my pap smear and she gives me a card for a fertility Dr and says, "I'll see you in 3 months when you're pregnant". While meeting the Dr he takes my blood and finds out I have SEVERE diminished ovarian reserve. (Meaning I have the amount of eggs someone at 48 would have....along with the quality). He then looks at the record from when I had the blood test over a year before and said it had looked like I was going into early menopause and Dr Susman had received these results. Why wouldn't a good Dr reach out and say, hey your results came back and really think you should go see a fertility Dr!!!! (I didn't even know what a fertility Dr was back then to know on my own! I thought they were the same as a Gyno!). SHE SAID NOTHING! Then beyond this whole issue, I got a call THREE MONTHS AFTER my papsmear to tell me there were traces of HPV in my system. Why would it take that long to notify a patient??! So very long story longer.....please don't walk, run away from her! Clearly doesn't care about her patients well being and 3 years later, I'm still not pregnant and makes me so sad I didn't freeze my eggs since she said that I was ok. I'm not. I'd give anything to go back in time and not listen to her. Even if she had called when she received results when I was 37 to tell me to go see a fertility Dr then!!! Anyway, wanted to finally write this review to get this weight lifted. Hope this will help at least one person moving forward. Also I really wish Yelp allowed you to not put any stars. Putting one is way too many for her. ***update as to Dr Susman's comment. If success that is stated means the early miscarriage I had that shows the type of Dr you are. Success is not having to go through a horrible traumatic and lonely time where the office wouldn't even fully confirm the results that I was miscarrying since you had left town. Great experience. Since I moved to LA, I have been looking for a gyn that made me feel comfortable. I had found a lovely lady and she stopped taking my insurance, so the search was on. I visited one Dr. who told me I needed to have children now and that if I didn't think about it immediately, I would regret it (uh, I realize I am 40 and that I have limited time but to pressure me like that was one of the most uncomfortable experiences I ever had). So, all that to say I was nervous to see the next. I can say that from the time I entered the building to the time I left, I felt completely comfortable. Parking: easy Location: convenient Waiting Area: Clean. There was no wait, and even when I left, there were only two people in the waiting room (one filling out paperwork), so not sure about the previous reviews about overbooking. I came early (as you're supposed to do) to fill out paperwork, and I expected a long wait, but there was none. I was in and out in 20 minutes! The staff was super friendly (the woman at the counter said she was covering for someone on maternity leave, so I can speak to her service only). She was funny, compassionate, helpful, and kind. The other young lady was very sweet as well. Even when I misheard what she said about scheduling for next year, she very nicely explained again to me. Dr. Susman is compassionate, thorough, not pushy, and quick (who really wants to be wide open for a long time in a doctor's office anyway). Ehem ehem... I don't know how normal it is to leave a review for a Dr, but I feel inclined in this case, as Dr. Susman is the best. A few years ago I was experiencing pain from my Paragard IUD, and in one visit, after one sentence, she had it out of me. Well, I still like the idea of and IUD, so I came back in for Skyla. Two appointments later and it's in. I also didn't react well to the insertion. I'm not sure why, it was only as painful as a really bad cramp, but I broke out in sweat and felt pukey immediately. She and the nurse got me cold water, cold rags, watched me, made sure I was going to make it. Dr. Susman is one of those OBGYNs that is really in touch with women's issues and concerns -- and not just because of her gender. The entire office is very personable. Her office is comfortable and welcoming; they have a Japanese toilet that makes peeing in a cup not a chore! Just one tip: she does tend to run a little late, I've noticed. I wouldn't not show up on time, but when taking time out of work, plan for it to maybe be longer than expected. read more

Dr. Susman is absolutely amazing. After I moved, I needed to change doctors, and a friend of mine suggested her. The office is in an easy to find location, small and cozy, and the staff are nothing but helpful and accommodating. I get anxious and nervous during any appointment and they are supportive, well-trained and a delight to be around, given the circumstance of going to the doctor. Samantha is a delight, specifically, as she's caring and makes sure you're okay (I was experiencing pain during a visit and she checked on me and asked me if I needed anything). Going to a gyn is typically something to dread..but Dr Susman was amazing, the staff is sweet and kind and the atmosphere is amazing

This is an update to my prior review from 10 days ago. Since the doctor saw my first review she mailed me lab results- results that were very concerning and worrisome based on a layman reading them- completely cold with no explanation on what they mean, along with a note telling me she saw my Yelp review and is therefore dismissing me from her care. Not that I would ever be going back based on the worrisome experience I had with her and her staff, however this is COMPLETELY unprofessional to send lab results cold and dismiss me because you got your feelings hurt by a negative (but accurate) Yelp review. If I were the doctor I would certainly want to know more about the experience her patients are getting with the staff when she's not there- wouldn't you? For the record (and please check if you do record conversations) here's a verbatim exchange I had with the staff member at the front desk answering my phone call about a concern I had with bloodwork paperwork that had been incorrectly filled out: Me: "hi there, I just saw dr Susman and she gave me this form to hand to the lab for my blood draw. I noticed she marked here that I wasn't on any medication but I am. I'm wondering if she did this for a reason and it's correct or if it's just a mistake and should i change the form myself?" Staff: "it's probably fine." Me: "okay...but would you mind double checking for me when she has a second? I just would feel better." Staff: "she probably wrote it for a reason, but if you want you can just change it yourself. It's fine." Me: "uhhhh...well I know but if you could just check for me when she is free I would really appreciate it. I can hold." Holding... Staff: "ok just asked her. She made a mistake. Just change it yourself,it's fine." A nurse or staff member at the front desk cannot and SHOULD NOT just take a guess to what a doctor's intentions are on a medical form. I'm sorry if this review hurt your feelings Dr, however now after receiving negative and potentially life changing lab results in the mail by you with no explanation, other than you didn't like my Yelp review, I stand by this review even more so. Amazing doctor, and very caring staff. Every time I go for my prenatal appointment I get seen right away I never wait more than five minutes. The office is always clean and smells nice and that's very important especially for pregnant women. The doctor always addresses any questions I have and I was asked me if I have any questions or concerns and she always listens always does an ultrasound and always listens to the heartbeat something not every doctor does. read more

I wouldn't think of anyone other than Dr. Susman to deliver our children. I was immediately impressed 7 years ago when we were referred to Dr. Susman when my wife and I were starting our family. We now have 3 healthy, amazing children :). My wife was very concerned about finding a doctor that was board certified. I was excited when we went to our first appointment and learned that Dr. Susman graduated from my alma mater, Tulane! It didn't hurt that she was a Lieutenant Colonel in the US Navy, either. Ever since then, my wife and I have referred our friends to her to deliver their babies and they have all loved her and her staff. Terrible front desk office staff. So rude and unprofessional, imagine how the Dr. would be

Dr. Susman, I visited your office for a consultation back in December. While I found you to be friendly and knowledgeable, I will not be returning to your office because of a bad experience with your receptionist and billing staff. Although I paid my bill in full on the day I visited the office, your billing department has continued to harass me for additional payment, even after the receptionist promised to clear up the problem. I eventually confirmed with my insurance provider that the bill had been paid in full and went so far as to have them send your office a statement of benefits. Clearly, your receptionist isn't communicating with your billing people and, while that's certainly annoying, the rudeness I encountered from your staff is the reason I won't be coming back. On a couple occasions, I have had problems with a woman named Annie. I am a patient and called to ask if they the Dr would do hormone tests. She asked me what kind. I said the kind that tests for hormone imbalances due to issues for getting pregnant. She wanted me to tell her a specific test, I said I don't know and I can't discuss all my issues on the phone while at work. She said well call when your not at work. They are closed by 4, at lunch and open at 8. Not open on weekends. When should I call? I work 8-5, lunch at 12. She just hung up on me. The second time was when I called to book an appointment. She gave me attitude because I wanted Dr. Susman to call me back regarding the hormone testing. I left a message. I asked her for her name both times and now feel like she's just a nasty person. I got a call 2 weeks later after I was already looking for another doctor. Dr Susman seems nice or at least she tries to be. I feel comfortable with her. I don't think she asks enough questions to get to the bottom of what you are there for. She does let you talk, which I like. I'm still on the fence about going to her office again. If I get one more nasty comment from Annie, I'm letting Dr. Susman know why I won't be returning. read more

I like to think of it as a serendipitous mix of fate and destiny to have stumbled upon Dr. Susman's office. My first visit to her, I was immediately impressed by the fragranced aroma, warm, rich, vibrant colors and mixture of textures in the front office. The sprawling abundance of all the latest fashion and lifestyle magazines also piqued my interest. The very pleasant, courteous and warm staff members, guided me to the back weighed me in, and directed me to the bathroom. The attention to detail and meticulously clean facility beyond impressed me. To my delight as I sat on the throne and felt the warmed toilet seat...I knew that I had truly discovered the most amazingly awesome doctors office. So finally I get the pleasure of meeting Dr. Susman and she instantaneously radiated so much warmth and graciousness that it made me feel so comfortable and safe. My examination was quick, painless and so human. Dr. Susman treated me so awesomely that I know without a doubt that she will be the doctor to one day deliver my children and as long as she's practicing she will be my doctor. My latest experience was a bit more unexpected, yet Dr. Susman and her staff accommodated me to the upmost. Once again, I felt so much warmth, welcomed and nurtured during my experience. I sincerely would like to thank Dr. Susman and her staff members for not only completely taking care of my medical issues but for the extraordinary manner in which they did so. Thank you for being so kind, warm, nurturing and comforting to me. I know that this may sound exaggerative, but it's honestly the most fitting way to describe my treatment. Dr. Susman especially and her staff treated me as though they genuinely loved me. And for me, that has touched my heart in an indescribable manner. The staff was rude but Dr Susman was very worth it. I came in with an unusual situation which had been troubling me and I appreciate the kindness with which she treated me more than I can say. She was also grounded and experienced and I liked the fact she did the ultrasound herself. Caring about people is a very important quality in a doctor. Back a few months later, a new location which is very pleasant and much less hectic than the old one. The staff is still just ok, but Dr. Susman is absolutely lovely - down to earth, kind, practical, listens and much more experienced and knowledgeable than other gynecologists I've seen. I don't hesitate at all to recommend her. read more

Dr. Susman has a great bedside manner and her office is very comfortable. She makes the effort to create a great atmosphere so patients don't feel awkward around her. Her staff is efficient and knowledgeable. The heated toilet seat is also a surprisingly great plus! There are times though that I feel rushed, especially when there are lots of patients waiting. Be prepared for a bit of wait, but it should be worth it. read more
