I've only had kava a handful of times and it's usually out east. I'm excited that there's a kava bar out west near where I live. It's definitely a great alternative to drinking alcohol; it's soothing, relaxing, and legal. This is by far the best kava bar I've been to. The decor inside reminds me of a beachy tropical theme. The owners were friendly and knowledgeable about their product. They even painted and did the artwork inside which is remarkable. I've never had flavored kava until now and I'm hooked. The regular kava tastes just like herbs and muddy water. However, I had their butterfinger kava and it was amazing! They also do other flavors which I'm looking forward to try out. The shots of butterfinger kava were $7 a shot. We also had black sands kava and a pitcher was $25. I had a few drinks and my mouth was numb; I felt very mellow and loved watching the animal channel on television. Something about that kava. Overall, it's an awesome new hangout spot if you're into that stuff. I definitely look forward to coming back when I don't feel like going to a conventional bar.

Kava time fun time! Kava bars are nothing new to BPB but Shells is the newest on the block and the first one in the Lauderhill area. They are right off university drive near some killer ethnic eats and tates comics. Never had kava before? It's a tea made from the kava kava root mainly consumed during ceremonies in the south pacific. The traditional non-flavored kavas have bitter earthy taste and it's best to have a chaser of some sort after. It tastes pretty bad. Soooo it tastes bad- why would one drink it? Well kava provides a natural relaxing effect not as dangerous as any RXs drugs and it also aids in detoxification. The difference at shells: FLAVORED KAVA. When I was there they offered a White Chocolate pretzel flavor and holy smokes... It ACTUALLY tasted good. And I have tasted many kavas in the past and this is the first time I could drink it without any chaser. It's truly awesome. Shells is owned by husband and wife couple Heather and Jared. They are true locals both born and raised here. When you visit you may even get to meet the future kava master their son Malcolm! They have done a great job with decorating the space and the amazing mural was painted by Heather. The thing about Kava Bars it's all about community. This is where you go to meet new friends and unwind at the end of the day. Change up your usual plans and check out Shells- right now they are offering your first kava for free. BULA!

Great local spot if you're into kava. I personally can't deal with the taste, but to be fair this place had some delicious flavor mix-ins that totally mask the kava taste. Above all the staff is so friendly and knowledgeable. Very comfortable and relaxed setting. Be sure to check out the art (including a beautiful mural in the bathroom) painted by he owner herself!

Great atmosphere and friendly staff! Kava is an "acquired" taste but once you get used to the earthy flavor you can feel the benefits. Stone is the strongest but they have a variety of flavors to soften the impact of the taste. Give em a go!

My coworker has been raving to me about Kava for weeks, months even. Then out of the blue, this one pops up 5 minutes away from where I live. Fate I think! I finally get to try this mythical magical Kava! We came here on a Thursday afternoon and it was just the owners in there. We introduced ourselves to Jared and he talked to me briefly about Kava and the flavors they were offering. They rotate with new flavors constantly, but this day they had Pinapple, French Toast, and Chocolate Chip Pancake. I started with french toast because, well, DUH! I was anticipating an underlying bad taste because I was told actual Kava tastes awful but this was amazing. It tasted like the milk in a bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. YAS!!! I finished my drink in about 2 seconds LOL. After a few minutes we got another round, this time I got Chocolate Chip Pancake. This one was even better, it tasted like nesquik chocolate. After a few minutes my lips were tingling and went a little numb. I tried the plain afterwards and yup, it didn't taste great haha. I'm going to stick with the flavored ones. I suffer from pretty bad anxiety and chronic nausea/ulcers. I can honestly say I had no nausea and I was at peace that afternoon. It was almost euphoric. How could anyone leave less than 5*? I love the ambience, the owners are great and friendly, the price is right (according to my coworker we paid about half what he normally pays), and I felt better than I would downing shots of vodka somewhere else. I think this is a fantastic alternative to Friday happy hour drinks. I hope this business succeeds. Oh! They will be having a grand opening on July 8th!! I will be in New York, but if you are in the area check it out!!

Shells Kava Bar popped up on my alerts today...and I've been itching to try kava for years...Jared give me the breakdown of kava...it's effects and natural uses...I'm always down for trying new experience...which may be old to some lol. So I started of with a Mexican Chocolate shot...perfect taste to ease my way into this experience...nice and sweet and chocolate...with the earthy tones sneaking up on you... Now I'm all into the experience with the reggae music playing in the background...decided to try the pina colada kava drink...so tropical in flavor...felt like I was in my own island in Lauderhill lol...feeling so relaxed and at ease... Must say this is a perfect alternative to the average after work drink experience...or after dinner wind down...can't wait to return again and raise my bowl in delight...

I was searching around on Yelp for Kava places I could go to try Kava, and Shells popped up. This was an extreme shock to me, as after doing the Google Map search, I realized I've been driving past Shells EVERY DAY for the past four weeks and had no idea! In honor of my very first "Date" I made with myself, and I told myself that I should do something I never did before. That's what we do on dates, right? (Probably not -- don't take dating advice from me). Anywho, after hopping in the car, I found Shells. It's nestled graciously in the same plaza as the Animal Hospital and across the street from the Racetrac. You don't have to fight someone's kid for a parking space, as there is more than enough to go around. Walking in, I was greeted by one of the owners, Heather who is the SWEETEST person I've ever met! I explained to her that I never tried Kava before, and she was pleased to share with me the process of how it is made. As a matter of fact, I was blessed with the opportunity to actually witness Heather making a fresh batch of Black Sand. It definitely is a process I now appreciate. Upon sitting at the bar, you are greeted by two televisions that are flanking the menu board, which is large and colorful (I want one like that in my house). Heather and Jared (Heather's awesome partner in Kava and husband) maintain the bar to the upmost cleanliness, which is also appreciated. Whether music is playing or not, the overall atmosphere of the bar is inviting, and the good energy that permeates the bar is welcoming. I was really worried about the fact that I came in by myself and probably looked silly, but I completely forgot that I did due to how happy I was. As far as the Kava, I tried Pineapple Kava and Black Sand. If you are worried about the taste of Kava, a flavored cup may be more down your alley. The Pineapple was not overly sweet, and was definitely a good introduction to Kava. The flavored batches come in waves, and sadly, I missed out on Butterfinger shots! Honestly, I'm not worried though, as I will be back! Speaking of being back, Shells is open until midnight every day except for Friday and Saturday: They are open until 2 AM! For someone that works late, it's a great feeling to know I can drop by and get my fix. When Heather finished with the Black Sand, I decided to try a cup of it. It was fresh, and of exceptional quality. Keep in mind that the Black Sand is NOT flavored in the same regard as the Pineapple, so if you are not a risk-taker, ask before taking the plight. I began to slowly feel the effects of the Kava, and then the relaxation hit me pleasantly. I was relaxed and happy. I had a co-worker who was panicky call me. Normally, this would make me extremely anxious....but I had been drinking my Kava before she called. I had NO panic attack or anxiety. This is an AMAXING FEAT, as I am prone to always being under extremely stress and anxiety... It was for the first time in YEARS I felt so relaxed and could handle things that normally have me ready to scream in a padded room. I am thoroughly convinced that Shells Kava Bar is one of the greatest things that happen to cross my path this month. Heather and Jared, THANK YOU for believing in your dream and opening Shells Kava Bar! You guys rock!

Shells has become a new favorite place of mine! The atmosphere is just really fun and inviting, you instantly feel comfortable and relaxed and that you are among friends. Heather, Jared and Lisa are super awesome and friendly people!! The flavored kava is also super super yummy! It's always something new so you have to go often and catch all the flavors! The orange creamsicle is definitely my personal favorite! They also have board games, coloring books etc. for some extra fun!

    Shelley J.

Such a wonderful comfortable place. They have comfy seats, a beach shell bar, and Kava that actually tastes good! The owners are super folks that like science fiction movies and never make patrons drink alone. Jared wears the coolest ever polos with star trek and star wars logos. The bathroom has demolition man nobs. Heather painted the amazing mural on the wall. Oh, and the Kava flavours of the day are posted on their Facebook daily. Flavours like butterfinger, oreo, carrot cake, piña colada, whatever Heather felt like inventing, pumpkin pie, honey graham cracker, and kit kat make for many bowls or pitchers. Chairs/couches are super comfy, kids are welcome, free wifi, and the music is always fun. So, if bars and boos are not your thing, or if they are, Shells is open late, with a great vibe and full candy bowls.

This is the best kava bar I have ever been too!! The ambiance is beautiful and so relaxing. The owners are amazing and beyond creative (check out the artwork and there is literally a shell bar)This is the first time trying the flavored shots and cups and they were both amazing. The Butterfinger shot is a must(soooooo amazing)!!!! If you are in the area this is a definate stop!!

I came in on a Sunday morning around 10am and it was super crowded, which was a good sign. Despite the crowd, the line moved fast and my order came out really quickly. They have more matcha flavors than anywhere else I've seen, so it was a hard choice. I ended up going with the marshmallow, and I'm super happy with my choice. The matcha and marshmallow flavors were both strong and complemented each other well. They have a pastry case that I completely missed because it's around the corner, or I might have tried something there too. I love the cute animal decor as well, and I don't believe they charged extra for alternative milks, which is always huge bonus points for me. I enjoyed the lavender latte, but would probably only get it hot in the future, and would try a different iced latte flavor. The spicy chicken empanada was delicious and I would definitely get it again. It had a nice curry sauce inside (though it wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be). The ham and cheese sandwich was also surprisingly good. Though simple, they tasted like quality ingredients.

The establishment spewed an ultra industrial modern intimate vibe with gray polished stone flooring with an open ceiling exposing the metal rafters and a/c tubing, accented by dark green ferns on the walls and tables. The laughter from five girls at a back table echoed throughout the cafe, which was a good start. The barista was chatty and all smiles while she took my order quickly with no hiccups. The Guatemalan dark roast espresso beans are sourced from PumpHouse Coffee in WPB. It was presented in a mini cup with the Drip Coffee logo imprint - this is such a simple inexpensive marketing tool that most cafes do not take advantage of.
