Ask the Community - Shelly's School For Dogs

    Do they train with ecollars?

Off leash training is done with the ecollar from what I have seen. My girl was trained on the leash with a pinch collar, but it does not bother her at all. If you call and talk to Shelly he will answer all your questions.

After trying the first trainer on recommendation and finding her to be a disaster, I looked online and found Keith. He had a number of good reviews so I thought I'd give it a chance and try him. When he came in he seemed very passive not at all what I expected. After explaining his philosophy on the way he trains dogs. He started to recondition Milo & Dukie without pain or treats. He also explained how dogs look at people. Dukie's big problem was that he jumped on people when they entered the house, he is 145lbs and would knock people over. Milo had a real attitude problem he nipped. Within 2 hours he had changed the dogs attitudes, it was an amazing transformation. You can now walk into my house without being jumped on or nipped. Its still a work in progress but what an amazing difference. He has made our lives a lot easier. Thanks Keith. Great Value.

The trainer who came to my house with a bag full of noisy metal balls and I was instructed to throw it or shake it to make noise when the dog failed a command. This had the complete opposite effect on our dog, and she cowered and became even less able to follow direction. It may be good for some dogs/breeds, but we had much more success using positive methods than asserting dominance.

How about opening the door and talking to him instead of watching from inside for 20 minutes. Mike and Amy just left my home where they helped turn my 100 lb American Bulldog's negative and seemingly aggressive behavior completely around. While we know we must continue to work with him, we now know what we need to do to help him become a better K-9 citizen. They will not only show you what to do, they will explain why you need to do it. They will also explain why your dog is behaving the way he/she is. Understanding why your dog is behaving badly is just as important as knowing how to correct it. This not only includes handling your dog with basic obedience but having more awareness in social situations and an understanding of your dog's body language which will help you to proactively correct your dog before a closed mouth becomes a bite. Anyway, they were great. Call them. You won't regret it.
