My only regret was ever going to this dog trainer who was on a power trip. ( he was recommended by a person whose opinion I respect)

I name all of three of us as finishing this class because at Kindred Souls, the owners take part in their dog's training. Previously, we brought our French Bulldog, Harlow, to basic obedience classes at Kindred Souls nearly seven years ago; and we knew as soon as we got a new pup, Kindred Souls would be our first stop. Pete is truly incredible at his job and has such an understanding of all types dogs. We truly appreciate how he puts the responsibility on the owners and his program is set up to set the owners and dogs up for success- as long as you listen to what Pete is teaching you. We've watched dogs that were timid and recently rescued come out of their shell and complete the training program like a whole new dog! Pete will not let you take shortcuts, which is what you want from a trainer, in my opinion. There's also weekly homework's provided in basic obedience, which are really helpful in making sure those in class stay on top of what they learn in class each week. Pete's also always available to his clients, which is so beyond appreciated, & helps showcase his true consideration for your pup. Pros: Pete is SO knowledgeable of all dog breeds and personalities and K.S. offers a variety of classes Our dog, Atlas, cannot run into Pete's classes fast enough! I have a very hyper golden doodle 70 pound puppy. She would learn things like sit, leave it and…read moreother basic commands, but would only practice these things when she felt like doing so. On our walks she was literally pulling my arm out of socket. Totally uncontrollable if any distraction crossed her path. She was jumping on everyone wanting to great them face to face. So many other bad "puppy" habits. But such a loving dog. She was literally getting to be too much for me to handle at only 8 months old. I turned to Shelly's School for Dogs in desperation. The day we met with Shelly in the lobby he was holding her leash and she was just being Madison, trying to greet EVERYONE who came into the center. Shelly asked why I waited so long...good question! We just completed obedience training/boarding where I would drop her off on Tuesday and pick her up on Saturday. Madison was always very happy when we pulled up and could not wait to get inside...a great indication to me that she was being treated well and she liked this place. Right now we are in the process of the human training stage. Katey has worked miracles with Madison. We can now go for long walks and I do not have to worry about the tiniest distractions. My shoulder is feeling so much better now that I do not have a moose pulling me the entire walk. I am still learning, but Katey has taught Maddie how to be a member of society. I even believe, now, that Madison could someday be a great therapy dog. Katey has brought out the best of my Maddie. Her spirit was never broken. Maddie has what I term "Doodle ADD". She still has this, but now Katey has trained us how to get Madison out of that manic moment and focus when necessary. So Madison is done with her training and now we are in the next stage where the humans learn how to utilize what the dog learned. Amazing! Katey is so patient with us humans. She is listening to our concerns about behaviors at home and teaching/showing us how to deal with these issues. And one important thing I have to say for anyone just thinking about Shelly's School, you pay for the training and it is guaranteed for the life of the dog! In the future, if I mess up and cannot get Madison to respond correctly we can go back at any time for free refreshers. I have read that some are upset that they use the pinch collars. I admit my heart sunk when I went to her "graduation" and saw this had been used. However, I put it on my arm and yanked it very hard and it did not hurt. It is made to simulate the mother correcting her pup. You do not choke the dog, and most of the time it is just hanging loose and does not bother the dog at all. If I need to get her attention a very quick soft tug is all it takes. I take it off the dog at night and in the morning she gets excited when we put her "necklace" on. It looks awful, but with the proper training it works wonders! There is no negative training going on here...positive reinforcement is how they roll! They love our dogs almost as much as we love them.

They have pools for them and a large sand pit for digging. There is a very large backyard with a high fence and they are NEVER caged. They sleep on the furniture like the kings and queens they are. I am so thankful I found them. April is so wonderful with the dogs and Emma took to her immediately (she was a shy puppy). I can not say enough good things about them...THE BEST!!! And Emma agrees, especially about the homemade treats that are always on hand!!

Mike, the owner, supposedly an…read moreexperienced dog trainer, during our first meeting, deliberately "forgot" to mention that the training of a 5-year old dog should be or might be different than training a puppy. The results spoke for themselves. However, he was quick to demand the full payment, which exceeded $2,000, without any recourse. In a nutshell, we were made to prepay a stranger we met only 20 minutes earlier, who was giving us a typical sale "shpiel" of his company being the best around. What a lie! Apparently, the love for our dog made us forego requisite due diligence and caution in choosing a dog trainer. There was no methodology as to how to train our dog most basic functions. For example, while the first trainer, Dana, kept feeding our dog treats every 2 minutes to make him compliant, the second trainer, Shan.... (forgot her full name) abandoned the "feeding" practice, but suggested to cross the street if the dog was pulling in a different direction during the walk. Contrary "techniques" between the 2 trainers were obvious. After 6 sessions and countless walks and "in-home practices" with and without trainers, our dog did not learn much (in fact, he regressed) and we gave up on Michael's Dog Training because we saw no progress. We realized we were wronged. Bottom line, we strongly do not recommend this business.
