This facility has no ventilation throughout the workout floors, and the bathrooms and showers shows a lot of very dark ( dark brown /black ) areas on the light colored tile/grout. It has to be mold / mildew or worse, due to having absolutely no circulation. None of the windows open up allowing fresh air. The place is very old and smell musty. You get one bad smelling dude in there and it takes hours to dissapate. Any gym that is this old , needs to be cleaned frequently and consistently. read more

This is a small town gym, so it's a bit run down at points, but the staff are knowledgeable and nice. Of all the gyms in Shelton, this one has the biggest variety of equipment for sure. I've never seen a pegboard or Jacobs Ladder at a non-climbing gym before, but a lot of the equipment are run down, and a few even have bite marks in them... yes, bite marks. They have a small lap pool, steam and dry saunas, tanning, supplement shop, and there is even a hair aon in the building.. It's a well-rounded gym with a bit for everyone. With membership, it is keyed access, so it will be 24/7, but not all of the gym is accessible 24/7. They lock the upstairs after staff leaves for the day, so if you are a bit of a later gym goern you lose access to a lot. It's still usable but feels less worth it. (I assume they do this for the businesses upstairs, but the cardio space is upstairs, so if you want to use it after staff leave, you can't. Wow dont join save your money, the girl that tried to set up my account didn't do it right I've not been able to every use my key fob and my hours are not compatible with going in to have them fix an issue that they created. I asked for my money back they refused refund so they took my dues and I only got to.use the gym once that pissed poor customer service. Shelton Athletic club is my go to place for fitness! Their instructors are so knowledgeable, welcoming and friendly. I recently underwent a bilateral knee replacement. The water aerobics class helped me get back in shape, strengthened my knees and gave me confidence to resume a consistent fitness program. I look forward to coming to the gym, have met really friendly people and am so thankful I found this healthy environment. The staff are very encouraging, consistent in providing excellent education, personal training and motivate me to reach my goals. Life is busy. We are all trying to do the best we can. Even when I miss a few weeks, I return to a "Cheers" environment, where everyone knows my name, and is truly interested in my well being. Absolutely love this gym! The staff is super helpful! Chet will help you with anything you need. Equipment explained or even a sample workout! The members are also friendly! All kinds of members! Since the motel I was staying at in Shelton didn't have a workout facility, I decided to buy the daily guest pass at the Athletic Club for $8 and squeeze in a workout. The gym is in an older building and has Free Weights, Racquetball Courts, Swimming Pool, Weight Machines, and Cardio Machines. I'm going to rate the gym a 2 Star on the Free Weights and a 3.5 Star on the rest of the facility, which is how it averages 3 Stars. Here's why: Free Weights - 2 Stars The Free Weight room has a collection of weights that appears to have been collected through garage sales. I counted no less than 5 different types of weights in the room....Caps, Standard, TDS, Nautilus, & Power Systems...(see pics). Also, some of the equipment is very old. One of the bench presses was kind of rickety and looked to be at least 20 years old. Same goes with the dumbbells, which were old and some didn't have the weight printed on them. Rest of the Facility The rest of the facility has decent equipment.....not the newest, but good. I worked out on one of the ellipticals for 45 minutes and it ran fine. The Weight system machines worked well too. I didn't use the swimming pool or racquet ball areas, but they seemed to be in good shape, clean, and well lit. Was it worth $8? I think it should have been priced at $5, but beggars can't be choosers and I didn't have very many options.....I got a good workout in and that's all that matters. read more

I have been coming to this gym for years and love it. Randy and Chet are great and work hard to keep all the equipment in good shape. There is a wonderful variety of free weights and machines as well as racquetball courts, pool, jacuzzi, steam bath, and separate saunas for men and women. There are also many classes offered free to members such as yoga, Zumba, and Pilates. Hours listed are when staff is present but members can also come at off hours using their cards on the lock outside the door. Very versatile gym for people serious about getting and staying in good shape. Best deal around!! read more

I'm a fan of this gym. The owners still work there on a daily basis and definitely have their thumb on the pulse of the business and experience you get when you visit this facility. It is the only full service gym in Shelton and they are constantly adding more workout equipment, almost monthly. It is apparent the amount of care they take in the quality of their equipment. The only reaon that I didn't give them 5 stars is because of their limited hours. I've discussed their hours with the owners and they are working on fixing that. I understand the current reason for their hours and do not hold it agains't them. If you're looking for a facility to workout, I'd recommend this one. I don't recommend this place for women. It's mostly for men who want to lift weights that are too heavy for them, and they throw them on the ground (BAM!) and grunt and scream. I felt like I was in a testosterone/steroid factory. I didn't see any women trainers or any people who are into natural health and fitness. Women in the locker room aren't friendly. Those who take the classes don't hang out and socialize. (I think because they see the place like I do--that's it's a men's gym). One of the guys who works there looks like he is about to have a heart attack. I cringed when he lifted really heavy free weights, because he has a large beer belly, and is proud of it. Amazing facility, best gym in town! Offers more than any other; pool, sauna, hot tub, steam room, 2 racquetball courts, tanning, lots of different fitness classes. smootie bar, full weight room, full cardio space. For an even great convience, upstairs is Massage services, and a full salon! The Owners are friendly, although some of the front desk staff could use a pick me up (sometimes seem over tired). There are 2 owners, I believe, and both look well informed and interested in their customers. This gym also offers day passes, which are good for out of town guests and allows access for all classes! Shelton only has a few choices for workout places and it's sad that the only one with a pool has such limited hours and is poorly designed for people with mobility issues. The women's workout area is located up a flight of stairs. There are also kinks in their billing systems - you must either pay a year in advance or give over your bank information for an automatic withdrawal. Not acceptable. read more

The pool and hot tub close on sat/sun at 3:00pm. These are the days that most people have off. Half the time the hot tub is closed. Then when you do get to use it the Jets don't work and they have a fish net so you can scoop the little weird pieces of black stuff that float out of the system that doesn't work and into the water. Although at first the staff seem friendly enough,very quickly the atmosphere becomes one of cliques and "club" only privileges. Unfortuninately, every member pays the same price, so to be one of the privileged few one must take classes, be a "squeaky wheel" or be friends and family of the staff. There is an underlying theme that everyone's gym schedule must revolve around the class schedule and there is no consideration for other members . Overall, the gym is fantastic and definitely worth the price! Especially now that I hear its 24 hours. However, both times i was a member here and had auto withdrawal... occasionally it just randomly stops doing it. The first time it was mentioned it had stopped going, I paid the bill and cancelled not long after. The second time, a few years later (1-2 years ago) it did it again but this time no call about it until it was time for the third payment and so I owed a lot more. being on a tight income... that was a large amount to try and pay (and right away). I do pay attention to my bank account, but on auto withdrawals (understandably) it is a bit easy to not notice. Unfortunately, at the time we were so tight on money there wasn't a way to make it up so quickly as was wanted. Frankly, it was also aggravating that it took that long for someone to say something and only because i went in and asked when the computer popped up with an issue.
