I've been taking my dog here and have been quite satisfied with the treatment and courtesy of everyone. I've never had to call the vet before but my pup was not eating and I decided to call. Imagine my surprise when I called today to speak with Dr Leinen and was told that Dr Leinen is busy and do not do phone consultation so I would need to make an appointment for my pet. When I moved, I discovered this animal clinic was within minutes of our house. I went in one afternoon without my dog, and the staff were very friendly and answered all my questions. They made it easy for me to transfer my dogs records, and set up an appointment. When I came back with my pup, they were very accommodating - putting us in a room while we waited. The vet here is so nice, and he takes the time to explain procedures, vaccinations and options. My dog experiences anxiety when we visit the vet, and barks a lot. Staff took him in the back so I could have a conversation without distraction, which was very helpful! Have been back to purchase medication, and every time I'm there it's such a breeze! Im so glad to have this place within such close proximity, and would highly recommend this animal clinic to others :-) read more

The WORST vet Ive ever encountered. It all started when one of my dogs passed away. My other dog suddenly got what seemed like a UTI to us (and looking it up, they can often get one due to stress... like from another pack member passing away) We brought her in immediately.... and the doc wanted to order a laundry list of tests, that were going to cost a pretty penny. They *supposedly* took a urinalysis, and told us it was pyometra, and she was going to need more tests and a 2000$ surgery immediately. We asked for antibiotics, while we decided what we were going to do (though, likely a 2k surgery was going to be out of the question... we simply dont have that kind of money) to try and get rid of the infection. It was basically our only hope. They refused to give them to us.... claimed it was a liability (tho from where I'm standing, not giving them was more of one) My significant other got pissed off, and decided we were going to go elsewhere. The receptionist offered to give us the urinary testing they did, so we could take it to the next vet. They were charging us for it, so we said yeah absolutely..... only to find out, THEY NEVER RAN THE TEST. How do you know its pyometra then? How do you not know its not A UTI?? And u were gonna charge us for a test you never ran????? SRSLY??? They did remove that from the bill, but um, they kind of had no choice at that point lol We left, and went to another vet immediately.... and that night, the doctor from Shenandoah Animal Hosp called my sig other, and basically reemed him, defending his wife (the vet who actually saw our dog) and said we were going to kill our dog. In those exact words. It was quite upsetting. My sig other also read a similar review from someone at the time, who was having the same exact issue about this place.... pyometra and all. The NEW VET, however, put her on antibiotics immediately, and they ran tests. It turns out... It WAS A UTI... NOT PYOMETRA. Shenandoah Animal Hospital wanted 2k for a surgery MY DOG DIDN'T EVEN NEED! Not to mention even more from a battery of tests. ALL of this, based on ZERO URINE TESTING THEY DID.... that they tried to charge us for too. We had my dog fixed, after she kicked the UTI... shes been fine ever since. Don't go to this vet... they absolutely do rip people off (or try to) If you are in this area, take them to Animal recreation & rehabilitation center instead. They are GREAT! And the environment is much more relaxing for your pets. read more

I've been taking my dog here since he was a pup and I've had nothing but great experiences!! The staff is caring and accommodating to all of my pets needs!!! Dr.Leinen is an amazing veterinarian and my dog loves him!! He always explains everything and makes sure to answer any questions I have about my dogs treatments. Even during the pandemic when I had to drop off my dog and wasn't allowed into the clinic, after I picked up my dog I would receive calls from Dr.Leinen himself to inform me and update me on how the appointment went and how my dog was doing!!! I have taken my dog to this vet for a couple of years. I have been put off by the front desk employees a few times. Not the nicest. Today I had an appointment. I have moved and missed the exit on the way and I was 13 min late. I had told them via phone call about my situation. Upon leaving they charged my a $15 fee for being late. There was not even anyone else in the office. I questioned the fee and told the girl that was crazy. She was not nice and asked me if I would like to flag my account and make it inactive. I wasn't rude about it I was just surprised. Very disappointing! read more

I love Dr. Leinen and his wonderful staff. I called the office because my dog was limping. Amber was able to fit my dog in the same day. When we arrived my dog (an American Pitbull Terrier) was filled with anxiety. The staff was so kind and tried their best to soothe him. Buzz is a big boy and to see them be so gentle with him made me feel so good. The Vet tech gave him a treat and kept telling Buzz he will be fine. I found out my dog may have injured a ligament. Dr. Leinen sat with me to explain all options and future possibilities with the injury. I left feeling so relieved and Buzz is now on medication for discomfort. Dr. Leinen is one of the most incompetent veterinarians I have ever encountered. My dog has been refusing to eat for months and this "doctor" ran "all the bloodwork" and told me he was perfectly healthy. This "doctor"then went on to prescribe him appetite stimulants so he could be forced to eat. I finally went to a competent vet who told me my dog's kidneys have been in failure. When I called "doctor" Leinen to inquire as to how my dog's kidneys could fail 48 hours after "all the bloodwork" this "doctor" insinuated that I poisoned my dog. I have learned by this Vet/ Clinic , diagnosis on your animal is not necessary true, after my dog suffered a hit by a car. Doctor Mark A determined my dog had had a shift of heart suffered 4 broken ribs , when in reality it wasn't true, we were charged 450$ for an half an hour visit, when arrival to the Advanced Veterinary Care Center after a 48 hour of observation, no such was ever found. read more

Nice vet's office. We have brought our dog here since she was a pup and Dr. Leinen has always done a good job of getting her squared up. They have always been good about telling you what the problems could be and then what they think the problem is based on their experience and what test results have yielded. They are going through a remodel and have limited space at the moment, but should be back to the full office soon. The staff here have always been pretty nice and great with all the animals that come through for visits or check ups. read more

Very happy with Shenandoah animal clinic!!! I took my dog here for a second opinion after hearing about the tumor in her mouth because I wasn't sure how severe is was and definitely wasn't thrilled with the price from the other vet. They told me that the tumor isn't as scary as the other place made it seem and gave me a much lower price than the other place wanted. Everyone is super friendly and it's also very affordable! And although we have been extremely lucky to have such a loving & healthy animal in our lives for so long, like humans they can eventually have illnesses. We found what appeared to be a small dog tooth on our bed, we were concerned but chalked it up to being a fluke. Then we found a second and knew this could be serious. We took our baby into Shenandoah Animal Hospital for a checkup to see what was going on.... We received the unfortunate news that he had the onset of periodontal disease. And he had lost 3 teeth on his own and at least 4 (maybe 5) needed to be surgically removed and he needed a thorough cleaning. They came back with an estimate and I took him home to see how we were going to pay for this. Even though I was concerned about the money, I was more concerned about the pain he was in and the fact I did not know it, they risks of more teeth coming out or the infections and risks of heart failure and other things that can become a factor with periodontal disease. Because he is so important to us, we made others calls and even took him to a friend's Vet for a second opinion. His findings were the same. We made the decision to use Shenandoah Animal Hospital because of their obvious love of pets and the great staff. Amber, Alejandra, Jake, Camilo & the Doctor were knowledgeable & were absolutely FANTASTIC. When we took him in for the dental surgery, I was an absolute mess, Amber comforted me and was there when I called throughout the day and gave us a full explanation of what happened during surgery and what to expect afterwards. They also shared tips to help keep his teeth cleaner longer in between cleanings (instead of only recommending we are there every 6 - 12 months for cleanings). The first few days were rough but he really has bounced back and I can see now that he is doing even better than before we knew of his dental problems. By the way, they accept Care Credit and there is usually a 6 months 0% interest if paid in full before the 6 months is up. When we went for our follow up a week later, I shared with the Doctor the appreciation we had for him and his staff but I wanted others to know of our experience in case it can help you find some comfort when you are going through something similar with your pet. read more

If you are looking for a poshly decorated boutique where you can throw away your money on unneeded treatments, lip service, and padded bills, I can recommend a few other places I've been - but only one time each. I can't say enough about this operation's style. Low key, personal, and friendly. Dr. Leinin is an ex military veterinarian so you can expect directness, thoroughness, and above all - fairness. He explained my bill prior to treatments, weighed the value of each one, and together, after answering all my questions, we planned a course of treatment for my dog's hip problems and hot spots. I spent 1/2 what I imagined. I've also never felt as involved in the process as I did here in the 11 years I've had my retriever. The entire staff is welcoming and accommodating. While the interior lacks bells and whistles, and it's mid-renovation, that's not why you choose a vet, is it? You want honest, reliable, competent care for your pet. If you want to be coddled and feel like you're in a nail salon, there are places all around south Fl that can provide you with that. Its the type of business that people tired of being nickled and dimed are looking for. And I applaud Dr. Leinin and his team for the model they have created. Right up my alley. It's such a shame. We've been going here for a while and have always had a pleasant experience. Recently I've noticed that the service has gone downhill. The charge for the office visit is fairly low compared to others but you are given a fairly long and expensive list of "diagnostic" testing. I have been given this list in the past, have agreed to it, and then the same tests are "needed" each time. It started to seem like this is where he was making up the rest of his $$. After visiting other facilities, I have seen that there are better places to go where they will make you and your pet feel welcome and also realize that as unfortunate as it is you are not an endless supply of money and can just hand it over when it comes to pointless testing. read more

My pet needed to be hospitalized over the weekend. Normally the vet does not return calls on the weekend but he said he would make an exception and let me know how my pet was doing. He did NOT call and even on Monday I had to call twice to know how my pet was doing. If a more thorough annual physical checkup had been done, my pet may not have become critically ill. I had to take my pet to another vet where the treatment and care was MUCH better and they care about the pets!!! read more

I have taken all of my cats and dogs over 20 years to this facility. Their prices are good and they take care of the animals. I had another vet tell me my dog needed oral surgery due to an underbite. I found out later that this was normal for the breed. I think that vet was trying to make a couple more Mercedes payments. My oldest cat lived to be 19 years old under their care. Dr Leinen and his staff are very thorough. They do a great job at a competitive price, have heard of other vets charging at least 50% more for similar services. Have recommended friends and neighbors and they have all been extremely pleased by the level of care and value. They have a loyal following as far as I can see, and seem to know all the pets coming in the door. (many return customers- always a good sign). I brought my 13 year old Jack Russel here for dental work. My regular vet recommended a tooth extraction for a very high amount. After doing some research we find Shenandoah, and they were able to do the same procedure for less than half the price. We were concerned because of the price difference and because our dog is older and had never been anesthetised. Fortunately all went very well. We picked up a healthy dog who was good as new the next day. The staff were friendly and helpful and the doctor took plenty of time to answer questions during the initial consultation. Luckily, our dog hasn't needed much veterinary care, other than annual shots and exams, but we would gladly return to this animal hospital! read more

My 13 year old German Shepherd mix (Mikie) had to have extensive dental surgery in which 11 teeth had to be extracted. I was very worried about this surgery and so concerned he would be in terrible pain afterward. When I picked him up that evening, the doctor explained everything they did. I was shown the infected teeth that were extracted as well as pictures and x-rays. I was sent home with pain meds and antibiotics. Mikie has done extremely well. He ate a full can of food that same night and has shown no signs of pain whatsoever, In fact, he seems much happier without the infected teeth. It will take a few weeks for his mouth to completely heal, but thanks to the doctors here I know Mikie will recover fully. I was very impressed they took all that time to explain what was done. They also called several times after the surgery to make sure Mikie was okay. Great job!!! read more
