I was in town for a conference, but honestly, I don't think I would've stayed in this hotel. Had it been my choice. I really tried to give them the benefit of the doubt, but their staff was just a bit too rude from checking in through my hotel experience. It starts at check-in...the staff were just very short with everyone that was checking in and I arrived at a reasonable hour- 3 PM. The staff definitely looked annoyed that people were checking in, even though there was a conference and another large group in town. I asked the staff if I could put my Marriott account on file which they did but very reluctantly. The restaurant doesn't open until five and it was not the most walkable to restaurants or anything in the area. The gift shop has decent snacks, but not very many. It's a lot of junk food and not really anything that you want to eat that's healthy. later in stay, I asked a staff member if I could change the credit card that I had on file to my company card, which I received while I was on the trip. She flat out, told me that I couldn't do that and suggested that I do that on checkout instead. Knowing that there was a large group checking out the next day I informed her that I was really reluctant to do that. She told me that it would just be better because "there might be a trainee that will just get it wrong". Is that my problem? Also having worked for Marriott in the front desk for at least five years I don't know why she was so reluctant to do something that a customer had said. on top of that, the rooms are a bit dated... They say that they're queen but they're clearly full-size beds. it's an older hotel he clearly needs a little bit of an update in terms of the furniture and the TVs, which are at least 10 years old. read more

We were in town for the Queens Tour. We arrived around 8pm and there was only one person ahead of us. Check-in was pretty fast. I reserved a double. Since we were tired, we opted to order room service. We ordered wings and fries, a turkey sandwich and 2 sodas totally nearly $80 before a tip . It included an 18% gratuity and $5 delivery fee. The gentleman that brought our food was nice and friendly yet professional. The food wasn't worth the price. The room was clean and the view from my room was of a convention center. We were only there for two nights so we didn't request housekeeping. It's Wallace to Beale St. and the FedEx Forum if you can walk about a mile. I felt safe walking during the day. Check-out is at 11am; however, I was able to get a 1pm check-out. read more

The room was very nice and spacious and again, valet does not take long when you need your car: it feels very safe here . Absolutely run down, old stinky hotel. Currently protesting a $250 smoking charge. Whole hallway smelled like marijuana. Hotel accuses me of smoking in the room, and as a non-smoker I can only laugh based on the state of the entire place. Funny part is, some employee calls at 9:45 at night saying a smoke censor has gone off in my room. Literally eating pizza with co-workers and watching TV, we laugh. Employee rambles and literally says he is just relaying the message and will not charge the room. Unfortunately, three days after checking out, the $250 charge shows up on my card. Won't be using this place on our yearly convention in Memphis anymore, and will prevent any attendees from doing so as well. read more

A night out just to relax and unwind this was the perfect choose!! Our view of the city was amazing!!!! The staff was very friendly! We decided to eat at the restaurant downstairs which I don't regret at all!!!! The food was GREAT! I ordered the catfish po'boy (came with fries) and he ordered the fried ribs The catfish filet was HUGE AND COVERED THE BREAD FROM END TO END! He got 5 ribs with his serving( we were debating about how many would come in his plate) and a cup of sauce(tasted like a honey mustard) RIBS WERE BANGING!!!! I added the menu for viewing and pricing. The restaurant was quiet this night and only 2 others at the bar with us. So the environment was very peaceful!! Yikes! My husband and I had a one night stopover in Memphis and decided to stay at the Sheraton Memphis Downtown. The hotel was in a decent price range and we took a chance that the place would be more than decent since it is across the street from the Memphis Convention Center (and even directly connected to it by a walkway). Although the main common areas were nice and seemed to be under light renovations, our room left a lot to be desired in terms of cleanliness and lack of details to prepare for a new occupant. Our room was on the fourth floor and it was extremely dirty, dusty, and seemed to have possibly been used or not fully cleaned before we arrived. The carpets, chairs, walls, and upholstery all had disgusting stains throughout the room. The sink had water pooled up in it that looked murky. One of the trash cans had trash in it still. A walkie-talkie was left in our room. The whole set up was just odd and not welcoming. Unfortunately, we were unable to switch rooms, but the bed seemed clean with fresh linens so we stayed for our intended one night sleep. In terms of layout, the room itself was a good size. There was plenty of space for our luggage and to move around freely. There were an ample amount of outlets to charge devices. We were only two adults in the room, but the space could comfortably house up to four people. The restaurant on site also leaves a lot to be desired. The staff we interacted with were either rude or didn't seem like they knew anything about the menu. The food was mediocre and the price point didn't match the experience at ALL. Overall, I would not recommend the Sheraton Memphis Downtown. The only positive I could see to this place is that it's convenient for convention attendees. read more

I thought we had a good room (updated and comfortable)--until I woke up on day 3 with bites that have now been determined are bed bugs. I informed the hotel via email and they have not responded. I was there for a large convention and I know of one other person who stayed there who was likely bitten by bed bugs (her case is not confirmed by a doctor). Now I have to treat my clothing, suitcases, and home. A huge mess and increasingly uncomfortable for 5 days now. read more

Unfortunately, we noticed several unsanitary conditions that impacted our overall experience. Specifically, we observed stains on the walls, furniture, mattresses, and carpet. The mattresses did not have proper mattress covers. The air conditioning vents were also full of dust, and the bathtub had dirt rings and peeling enamel. I took several pictures and videos and showed them to the shift manager. Additionally, we experienced poor customer service from the guest services staff, which further diminished our overall experience. The hotel shift manager claimed that she was not responsible for housekeeping and prioritized defending her staff. She also phoned our rooms at 1 AM, went up to my associate's room with security, threatened to eject her from the hotel, and demanded an apology. The Sheraton Memphis Downtown claims to be a 4-star hotel, but its unsanitary room conditions and poor customer service suggest otherwise. read more

Had stained carpet and air conditioner leaking into floor that looked to be that way for some time. The tub was peeling from where it had been painted. The soap bottles had fallen from tape on wall. Just felt like not investing to maintain hotel rooms. The buffet was overpriced for what it had, but was OK. If I have future meetings at this convention center I will stay at newer hotels in downtown and ride the trolly to convention center. read more

Staff was welcoming and friendly. We asked for adjoining rooms and got them...a first for me!! Usually that's such a big deal. It was nice not to have screaming kids on the other side of that door. Hotel is almost old enough to be considered elegant. Loved the glass elevator, and food was good in the dining room. They actually comped me food and drink when I asked about the VIP lounge, which is now closed. I am a Gold Elite for Marriott, which now owns Sheraton. The hotel shop had lots of drinks and snacks, but none of the things a traveler could need like toothpaste or Tums. They sent me two blocks down to buy them...and there's a homeless sanctuary across the street. Of course I was panhandled. If I had seen the area first, I would never have walked that way. Situational awareness. There was a streetcar we could take to downtown for $1. It runs every 15 minutes, so you never had to wait for long. All in all, a pleasant stay. read more

On par with a crappy highway motel. I came here for a conference, so I didn't have much choice in to where I stayed. I'll be asking them to never hold it at any Sheraton again. The rooms were disgusting. Every single surface is stained, from the carpets to the sheets to the towels. The chair in the room reeked of BO. The tv was from maybe 2002 and constantly lost signal, and it was so old you couldn't even cast to it. The fridge either froze everything or decided to stop working based on how it felt that day. The shower came complete with dirty footprints in the tub and empty soap containers, even on the first day we checked in. And to top it all off, there were ants in our room, literally within the sheets of toilet paper! Others in the conference said there were also ants in their rooms, so my guess is it's a complete infestation. The conference rooms weren't much better. The air conditioning either didn't work or was on so strong it serenaded us w squeaks and screeches so loud the presenters could barely be heard. The tech was awful and the tech support from the hotel had no idea what was going on. The WiFi was spotty and unpredictable. Honestly just a grotesque, revolting, disgraceful facility. read more

Do yourself a favor and do not stay at this hotel. Customer service is a joke. They are rude and unaccommodating. 1. I called housekeeping from my hotel room to schedule room cleaning and they said they couldn't schedule a time for someone to clean my room nor do they know when they come for cleaning. Is this a joke? 2. I stayed 4 nights and had to call for house keeping twice because they didn't come. 3. The sheets used weren't the right size (it was too small and as soon as you sit in it, the sides come off) and I had to tell housekeeping to use the right size. 4. The heater in my room didn't work and I had to ask for a room change (they didn't offer a room change and continued to send useless techs up to look into it but they never fixed it. 5. You can't park your car anywhere, valet only. 6. The staff at the bar cannot accommodate large parties, either that, or they're racist. One time, it took me 20 min to get my drink request in. I stared at the bartender assist 6 other parties before me. When I asked her about my order, she gave me attitude and then proceeded to gossip with her colleague, who looked like a manager. The manager then came by to ask about my experience, to which she was also rude and didn't address the problem - which was the fact that I have not received my drink yet. This hotel is a gem. It's not close to walkable restaurants or bars downtown but the on-site restaurant makes up for it. Good food, good drinks, good vibes, great crew! If I could give zero I would. This hotel is not only disgusting but the things they do is unbelievable and unacceptable. My first stay here the locks were not letting me into my room. Instead of finding me another room, the made me wait outside my room for a very long time trying to fix it. Once it was fixed my room was so musky and I was too tired to deal anymore so I just went to bed. Because it came recommend by a co-worker I figured I would give it another shot. I come to check in. Long line. The girl tells me they have no more king beds. I booked this over a week ago.. why was my room given away. Then she offers me two queens. I tell her fine, but again why when I booked this ahead of time was my room given away. Then a miracle happened and she miraculously found a king. I go up to the room. Nothing to my surprise door lock isn't working. Okay, go back down stairs. Tell her it's turning green but not opening it's like it's locked from the inside out. She calls security. Security tells me you have to pull up instead of down. I said okay we're going up there together because I already waited long enough for you. He goes up with me. Pulling up works but now the bolt isn't going back in. Then I walk all the way into the room. It smells to high hell. The mattress and box spring are on the floor!!!! No frame. What were they thinking. I walk straight out go down stairs tell her I want a room with a functioning door lock and a bed not on the floor! She then quickly and quietly gets me a new room. I walk in. Surprise another king room that she didn't have.. hmmmm. Room seems okay finally something decent. Then I suddenly start smelling piss. Like human piss. Look in the corner and this is what I see. The front desk staff are rude and unaccommodating. They obviously just do not care about the guest. They did seem to laugh and joke among themselves, but that smile went away whenever they were 'interrupted' by a bothersome guest. The public lobby restrooms were filthy and out of 'supplies' (this was mid-morning) I reported they were in need of service. When I returned after breakfast some three hours later and nothing was done, the condition was worse. We had to wait hours for our room and when it was assigned it was not only the wrong configuration (2-queens, not a king as reserved), but it was uncleaned from the previous guests. We paid for a premium corner 'Club Room' with 'Club lounge access' privileges', but were told at check-in the Club was closed. A 'continental' breakfast was offered. Our 'corner' room had a view of the hotel wall 8' away and the other window looked at the convention center wall across the street. There are no towel racks in the bathroom, they just pile the towels in the corner of the bath on the vanity. The Ice machine did not work on our floor, or the one below or on floor 7 or floor 11. After the 5th try I finally found a working one. Though, it looked so shabby I hesitated to use the ice. This hotel is convenient to downtown and the trolley system. Other than that it was a complete letdown. The only thing that turned out good about this hotel is that we had booked it for just one night. read more

Marriott owns this property. Front desk rude need a class in customer service. I never had a problem booking my hotel stays through hotels.com. I paid in FULL on hotels.com & when I go to check in I'm in the system but they double charge me & say it doesn't show I paid in full. Im big on customer service they weren't any help all they said we can cancel your room but it needs to be before 11pm it was just so frustrating. So we just ended up cancelling our room & now who knows when the money will be put back on my card. The manager said everything was reversed & nothing should be taken from my card but we will see. Okay so I gave a 2 star because every single employee was kind and nice. Like VERY nice! Other than that it was bad. Now don't get me wrong, I have stayed in worse, but SO MUCH wrong with this place. Now I don't feel it was dirty. It was just worn down and very pricey for what you get. It is under remodel and it appears that they are working on it section by section. Torn carpet every where you look. There were only 2 of the 4 elevators working the whole time so we had to wait FOREVER on every elevator ride. Plus, it was always awesome stopping on almost every floor every ride. The keys literally stopped working probably 6 times in two days. That was fun. We were on the 15th floor and I am not joking when I say that only ONE ice maker worked. Valet parking filled up so people used the lot across the street. Two cars were broken into the second night (not ours thankfully). When the police were there they said something spooked them because usually they hit 10-14 cars in one incident. Yikes. Disaster... When you first arrive you think you are about to enjoy your stay here. But take a closer look. After an 8 hour drive from Chicago I was looking for a nice place to stay in downtown Memphis. I Arrived later in the evening very tired and I decided to just stay in and order room service. I always bring my own water but it was a bit warm and decided to get some ice and you guessed it, the ice maker was broken. Ok, no worries, I went one floor down. Ice maker broken!! Okay let's go above my 14th floor palace and SOB! Ice maker broken! I gave up and drank warm water. A while past and I suddenly heard a loud door slam. I'm in one of those rooms where there is a door that adjoins both rooms. Next door to me was a family with a bunch of little kids. I specifically told the the staff I would like to have a quite room. With more than14 floors, a good hotel shuffles guest around to make sure guests are accommodated. If you have guests with kids your going on a floor with other families with kids. If you have guests who want quite You will place them on a floor with like individuals, it's called forethought! Now I've worked up an appetite. The TV has a menu channel and I thought cool! I found what I wanted to order and called room service. After 17 rings someone picked up. 17 rings should have told me something huh? I asked the young lady may I order room service, her reply was "we're not doing room service." I said ok and she hung up. Wow! We had no choice but to accept the 4pm check-in mandate; but after a long day's travel, then having to wait until our room was available was asking too much. To kill time, we waited in the bar having bland, weak, expensive cocktails until 5:15pm to get our key! By the way, that room key-card is touchy, making it difficult to operate the elevator and enter the room. No pen & paper in room Water faucet plumbed backwards, i.e. hot is on right, left is cold water. Minimal electrical receptacles No towel racks In-room safe did not work Bathroom mirrors and lighting excellent No "Do not disturb" sign available Room is clean and tidy. In-room coffee and bottled water is offered, as is ironing board and iron. In my two weeks of travel, this was the only mattress that hurt my back. read more

Sheraton Memphis Downtown is in a great location, beautiful facility with lots of potential. I loved their Gym, and Indoor Pool. Valet parking only. Attentive and Courteous Costumer Service at Check-in, Check-out and Valet. I do not grade any more than 3 stars out of 5 because the rooms with their restrooms are in need of remodeling. My room carpet was not just old but filthy. Consequently the room smelled bad. Additionally, at 8:30 am I got a knock on my room, they were checking if we were ready for our room to be cleaned. Before this hotel I have never ever been disturbed at 0830 am with a knock on the door to find out if I am ready for they to clean my room. Due to Corona Virus the Hotel was quite empty so I do not understand why they had to knock on my room at 0830 to try to clean it. I told them we would likely be ready after 11am. Well, at 11am on the dot they were knocking again. Overall, the hotel did well by placing tissues and disinfectant stations everywhere for their guests and attempt to keep any virus spread. I cannot deny I got worried when I noticed the pictures here on yelp of guests getting bed bug bites etc. It disgusted me, made me worried and uncomfortable. If I would have seen those pictures ahead of time I wouldn't have stayed. Sheraton Memphis Downtown doesn't have the best reviews and I can see why, definitely needs some work. After failing to read the reviews :( I have no one to really blame but myself. Or my boyfriend lol. Please do NOT stay here... I'm appalled that this sham has the Sheraton name attached to it. HAIR everywhere. The heat was set to hell upon arrival. The valet didn't help load the cart lol like wow. The curtains didn't operate like they were supposed to and the room just looked very MOTEL 6ish (no shade) I didnt trust walking on the carpet and I've never wanted to own a black light so bad. Now why don't the ice machines work?! Wasted a nice cocktail trying to put ice in it and some black gunk poured out and shot into our glass. The bathroom also has community refillable lotion and soap bottles and just. Absolutely NOT. Lastly our clock was not set and it's just been blinking 12:00 since we got here and it's infuriating really. Just NO. read more

As a pilot I stay in a lot of hotels. This Sheraton is the first one I have ever reviewed. My first room had stained duvet covers and a bathroom door with drywall paste on it. My second room was next to the cleaning staffs closet and sounded like a construction zone all day. In addition, the carpet was not vacuumed and the TV although new, not functional. The staff is rude and couldn't care less about your stay... so much for the service industry. Spend your money elsewhere.. you won't regret it. read more

I do not recommend this hotel! We are local to the area & called to make sure that the pool was open. They told yes it was open. We booked a two night stay so our granddaughter could swim, and needless to say they lied! The pool had been closed permanently almost six months prior to our visit. We were so mad we immediately ask for a refund which they denied, but we still checked out anyway. The Valets are extremely pushy & rude! I would not recommend this hotel at all! We ended up staying at the Hilton Garden Inn a few blocks away, and thoroughly enjoyed their pool, staff, & great hospitality! read more

If I could rate it less than I star I would. We arrived late and it was dark but I still noticed some dust on the furniture. I didn't think much about it until the next day. The edges of the room were gray with dust. I had placed my white luggage on the floor only to pick it up and notice pubic hairs, gross. Customer service is subpar, I had to call twice to have room service clean my room and they didn't vacuum. Basically they came in and took all the towels and didn't put any clean ones....no bathrobes at all.. ever. Will never stay in this Marriott ever again.
