    Pool area

I moved to Sheridan Apartments 5 years ago, drawn in by a good deal for students that cut the security deposit in half. Although, I was a bit wary at first because, as the other reviewers have stated, Sheridan has a bad reputation of being shady when it comes to returning security deposits. However, my experience was very different so I wanted to leave a review. I lived here for 5 years during that time the maintenance people were fantastic, they were on call mostly 24/7 and would promptly fix any issues we had. The pool area is quiet, clean, and beautifully kept. The people working at the leasing office were friendly and easy to approach if there was ever an issue. The location was conveniently close to route 9 but despite that, it was pretty quiet. This could be due to luck, but inside the apartment complex was also very quiet. There was always ample parking and no issues with visitor parking. My only criticism is the lack of updating. I had changed roommates after living there for 3 years and asked for a repaint of at least the new person's bedroom. However, I was denied. At year 4, I asked for a repaint and for new carpeting. The carpet was not new when I moved in and despite steam cleaning consistently it would hold dust and led to allergy problems, again I was denied. Also, I had noticed that other apartments had more up to date appliances, new kitchen counters, and new flooring. However, I was paying just as much in rent as the up to date units. Despite this minor issue, I was overall very happy living at Sheridan and would highly recommend living here. When I moved out we had no issues and received our security deposit in full.

Brown water, silt, funk and very strong chemical odor.

I lived here for ten years and paid my rent on time for ten years. Every single year my rent was increased, whether it was by $25 to $100 per month. This past year, I received a nasty notice stating my rent was going to be increased by $100. The "move in specials," advertised prices that were less than what I was being required to pay. When I asked I was told "well, it's a move in special!" Then when I gave my notice to vacate (according to my lease and not according to the nasty rent increase form letter I received), I was asked for my keys. I wrote back that according to my lease I had 30 days. Unbelievable. Liars. I also had a bathtub issue for ten years - it would constantly get clogged. I have thin hair and live alone. So for ten years, they would Drano the clog and the next month we would do it all again. Never got properly fixed. The water would sometimes be brown with a strong odor of chemicals. Not as bad as Flint, but still... Corporate greed at its height. Don't move here! If they try to keep any part of my security deposit, I will seek counsel as I know them to be unethical. Nuff said!

Never had a problem here - highly recommend :-) [Not sure why someone said the buildings were loud. It's not loud at all. I've lived in some apartment buildings where you could literally hear the upstairs cat's toenails clicking on hardwood floor or lapping water from a bowl. Nothing like that here - or loud, crazy neighbors. Everyone here is very nice.]

This apartment complex is for you if you are fine with: - poisons being sprayed all over the common green space areas where children play and people and dogs walk; - "landscapers" mercilessly mutilating what could be beautiful trees and flowering shrubs into small lumps; - the super loud sound of leaf blowers; - alarms going off for months without maintenance doing anything about it and them acting like you are the problem for asking them to fix the alarm and make the horrendous noise stop; - maintenance not communicating about the work they did, nor seeking clarification with you about the work that needs to be done, nor when they will be in your apartment doing the work, and then maintenance accusing you of being disrespectful for requesting clear communication; - automatic toxic room "fresheners" in the fitness rooms (I had so been looking forward to using them but did not want to breathe the toxins); - crazy loud HVAC units constantly blasting noise making you feel like you are in a non-stop giant engine room in your own home; - ridiculously bright light pollution that is hard to block out at night and visually assaults you when you look out your windows or open your door; there is no reason for such a multitude of super bright, white lights and it is a waste of electricity. When I moved in, there were several things broken in my apartment and things that still needed to be cleaned. Over the first month, maintenance was responsive and did the repairs and cleaning (like the ceiling fan that I could not reach to clean was caked in thick dirt and dust and grease, and the bathroom fan did not work because the painters sprayed the bumpy ceiling paint spray all over it), but they left all the dirt and debris for me to clean up. I never had that experience before where maintenance workers expected me to clean up their mess. It would be useful for them to have a checklist to go through before a tenant moves in to make sure that everything is working and clean. Other than that, the location is good. Visually the aesthetics of the buildings are okay. There is plenty of parking. I like that there are many trees around and I can go for long walks in the neighborhood. I like that they plant flowers at different locations there. The price is expensive but bearable.

It is an apartment complex that does not have amenities such as a gym, pool, grills, etc. It is aimed at the working professional. The managers treat everyone like family which makes this place unique. They are courteous, professional, yet fun and VERY prompt with requests and suggestions. Note: because of the buildings being very new and privately owned, they are more expensive. However, you do get 9 foot ceilings, lots of room, in-house washers/dryers, central air, and the buildings are all energy efficient (our monthly electric bill hasn't passed $80 and we blast the AC almost all day everyday).

The alternative apartments were either: a) reasonable rent, generic with white walls, white carpeting, walled off Kitchenettes with old appliances b) high rent, well equipped with modern designs, fitness rooms (extra fees), tennis courts and outdoor pools Madison Place features apartments with a modern, open design. The kitchen faces out to the living area and has granite counter tops, new appliances and track lighting. Washer and dryer are tucked away nicely behind a sliding door. A bonus feature is the large storage closet directly across the hall from the apartment. It totally beats having to go to a storage cage in some creepy basement like most places. It's the kind of place where a successful professional would want to live. Madison purposefully lacks the outdoor amenities like a pool and tennis courts in favor of charging less for rent. I am always able to park close to my building with plenty of spots for company. In addition to the great design and reasonable rent, the office team, Jen and Mark, are incredibly good-natured, responsive and customer service oriented. I always leave the office with my questions answered and a smile on my face. Anytime I receive packages during the work day, I find them right outside the door of my second floor apartment. I could easily pick them up at the office, but having the staff bring them right to my place is a welcome luxury. Lastly, the couple times where I needed minor repairs, the maintenance guy, Eddie, completed the work the same day. Parking lots are well cleared during the snow. Essentially, if you want an upscale apartment for a generic apartment rent, with customer service oriented office / maintenance staff, I highly recommend MP in Shrewsbury.

Everything went well until it was time for me to move out, because they increased the rent by $200 more per month (whatever happened to being grandfathered in?). So, I found another apartment. I made sure we left their apartment spotless. I even hired a cleaner, and they did a great job. After I moved out, the office demanded that I pay $1,000 for supposed damage to their "chrome" refrigerator. I have absolutely no recollection of ever damaging it. When I asked for a picture of the damage, it turned out to be nothing more than a tiny scratch--about the size of a quarter--and hardly noticeable. Yet they claimed they had to replace their 2 years old refrigerator with a brand-new one. Seriously? Over a quarter-sized scratch? Come on. Is that really the thanks I get from them? If you want to move in, make sure NOT to scratch their chrome appliances.

This place is INFESTED with bed bugs. So after moving almost all of my things in, I report the issue and ask for a resolution. It's been 4 days and I've been spending my nights at hotels with no clear solution in sight. Everything I brought here has to be treated or disposed of, and while I wait for pest control to arrive tomorrow, all of my belongings are being exposed. So I'm completely stuck and in an impossible situation. I can't move, and I can't stay. The property manager has no real power and has to run back and forth between me and her manager to get anything done. I have suffered severe emotional trauma from this, it has been impossible to sleep and I don't feel safe here at all. They sent a rep from their preferred pest control company who clearly wants to keep costs low for his business partner, he was rude and incompetent. He kept insisting on inspecting items that had been here for a day or two, and ignored me when I tried pointing out where I had seen live bugs crawling around. I noticed feces in a small Crack in a bedroom closet, and asked of they could at least use silicone or caulk to prevent any further bugs from spreading in here while I wait for them to actually treat the space this Friday and they refused. As far as I know, they are also not treating any other units, which is obviously the source of the infestation. I have never dealt with anything like this, it's been one of the worst weeks of my life, and I literally have never even gotten an apology. I'm sick to my stomach with this place. Find somewhere else to live, don't make the same mistake I did.

Residents are now being told that it is a Massachusetts state law that everyone must leave the entire pool area whenever the lifeguard takes a break. During these breaks, all residents are required to wait outside the gate for approximately 10-15 minutes until the lifeguard returns. In previous years, the rule was simply that swimmers had to exit the pool and remain clear of the water while the lifeguard was away. At no point during the past 16 years has there been a requirement for all residents to leave the pool enclosure entirely. I have reviewed information from Mass.gov and other sources and have not found any state law requiring all patrons to leave the entire pool area during a lifeguard break. If this policy is based on a specific state regulation, I would appreciate being provided with the exact citation or source. My concern is not only whether this rule is being accurately represented, but also why a policy that is now described as mandatory was never enforced or communicated in previous years. If this is a local policy rather than a state requirement, residents should be informed accordingly. I respectfully request clarification regarding the legal basis for this rule and the reasoning behind its implementation.
