This oft forgotten south county park jewel has one of the best park views in town. The park is located on the bluffs overlooking the Mississippi River. I love coming here to sit on a bench and read and occasionally get lost in the view when my book isn't holding my interest. There are ton of pavillions, perfect for picnicking (they can be reserved through the county park service). Some of the pavillions have electrical outlets and bbq pits included. It makes for a nice situation for any family picnic. There is a hiking trail, but it's not super long and not incredibly challenging. It is, however, perfect, for a leisurely hike with fantastic views of the river at random turns. Also, a fully stocked lake that, with appropriate permit, allows for public fishing round out the features of this park. The park isn't huge, it doesn't offer a lot of paths or have a ton of sports fields, but it's great for a picnic or for a family gathering.

This is a beautiful park with overlooks of the river and a nice lake and walking trails. It has an old house called Nymphs mansion.

The wedding I went to there was great, with pretty much no thanks to the venue. The "light show"…read moreduring dancing was awkward at best. The two men's room toilets had no door and no walls, respectively. One lady's room stall had a view into the kitchen. Most glaring, the in-house DJ was awful. Right after the first dance, he decided, without permission or even awareness from the newlyweds, to play some sort of elaborate military tribute. It colored the whole rest of the night, and not in a positive way. During the night, he just looked so upset to be there. At the end of the night, he chimed in to warn drivers away from a certain neighborhood in the area, claiming it was the "Ferguson of South County", a pretty clearly racist statement. If you rent this space, make sure the bathrooms are fixed first, and definitely bring your own DJ.

What a lovely setup here. This was our 1st outdoor event of the season and it was great night to…read moretry out this venue. A friend told us about the Tuesday night specials here which tonight's was build your own pizza. They serve very reasonably priced alcohol and have live music. Music was a tad loud but the guy probably turned it up bc he was outdoors. The pizza was so so but maybe my impression is influenced by my choice of toppings: bacon, tomato, pineapple and black olives. I should have added chicken too. Please note that this event was held on covered patio which is next door to the old church or "Abbey". They had the church/abbey open so I went in to see all updates. Really a very nice space. Haven't been to anything held there so I can't say more than it looks nice.

We booked the venue for our ceremony in February, the pandemic obviously hit in March. Throughout all the changes in the pandemic guidelines, MSA didn't contact us. I had to call and check on our ceremony status every time. In August, the state really tightened the restrictions - all reception halls were closed, including MSA - a month before our wedding. Our reception hall canceled us and we ended up moving our entire wedding to Missouri. Every single business gave us our money back...EXCEPT MAIN STREET ABBEY. They wouldn't refund our deposit, they said we could re-book within a year, but we didn't have a need to. They said that's what was agreed to in the contract, but I signed many contracts and other businesses understood that we're in a pandemic and this was out of anyone's control. Businesses that did give us money back include: Turner Hall, Bountiful Blossoms, and Bloomin Diehls. I would HIGHLY recommend any of those businesses. I also know that Hecker Dome was refunding couples their deposit amid the pandemic. I suggest supporting businesses that are kind and understanding considering these circumstances, Main Street Abbey just isn't one of those. I just don't want other couples to lose their money also.

Hey! I didn't even know this place existed until a friend had their wedding reception here! I loved…read moreit! Its tucked away behind Sperreng Middle School off Tesson Ferry. It's a small white old looking building with a partial gravel lot, part paved. If you are looking for a nostalgic place to hold a reception with a great sized dance floor, a stage, plenty of room to have tables around the perimeter of the dancer floor... Check this place out! I thought the way they did the buffet was brilliant! The bar is down 5-6 step on a lower level. So while you are on the main level the crowd works its way down the stairs, to the buffet to get their food and grab a drink and then head up the other staircase on the other side of the room. Seamless flow and unless you are behind someone who just can't decide on the roast beer or chicken... there are no hold ups in line! I think this venue would also be great for parties in general! Whether its for line dancing, a Zumba event, or just to have a fun party with a band! The basement bar is full of old Anheuser-Busch memorabilia and the bartender gave us quite the history of its location and how many famous people have visited there. My guess because of its "nostalgia" look... it might not be for all... but my guess is, its not expensive to rent out. And if you aren't needing a modern location, why not help preserve a great looking and very well functioning building and community! I'd go back here... in fact I hear they have open west coast or swing dance lessons / nights! hmmmmm!

Unfortunately tonight, four of the men didn't know their feet from a hole in the wall. Couldn't get a beat even though there was no music on. But can you count one-and-two, three-and-four? This is not a stretch of the phrase rocket science in any sense of its meaning! I was so spent (and sweaty) after the one-hour lesson that I couldn't stay for the open dance. I was actually pissed (have to balance that with a pissy day) about the beginner dance lesson. We didn't rotate partners. YOU NEED TO DO THAT. If you get a slower partner for a while, you can persevere. If the teachers don't have you rotate, you're stuck for the entire hour. Nuff said.
