After speaking with another quest they also had no way to lock their room. Then Bonnie stated the wash cloths could not be used to remove make up use only wipes only. (OK) Next day we stated the room did not have to be re-tided. When coming back the door was wide open.( Forgot to mention the shades are old and slightly torn. I had trouble keeping them up, so I tied the blind string together for privacy.) She txt me at dinner stating she entered the room, and I ripped the blinds from the frames and would be charged on my credit card!!!!!! That issue was resolved when the strings were untied. No apology was given. What a night mare. We left as soon as we could the next day before breakfast was served and went to a restaurant to eat instead of staying for breakfast. Would never again return to this place. Very strange. This is my first negative review every given for a B & B.

Fabulous Experience in EVERY Way! Beautiful Decor! Delicious Breakfast! Friendly Hosts! We were guests at the Sherman Inn, as we were attending our sons' hockey tournament in Ogdensburg. My friend and I, who are teachers, decided that we would stay at this B & B to turn what can be a long hockey weekend, into a pleasant getaway for the moms as well. So, while husbands stayed at home, we had hockey duty with our boys. What a wonderful idea to turn this old school into a B & B! The owners have gone out of their way to make the decor as special and as comfortable as possible, while keeping the old school charm. For example, there were several books that we enjoyed looking through that were period to the school. Original chalk boards were left untouched, as well as some of the furniture original to the building. We stayed in the blue room. This room was huge! The furniture and bed was super comfortable and all areas of the room were clean and tidy. There was even a kitchen across from our room, stocked with everything we would need, to turn the food we purchased into a healthy meal for our kids. John and Carlos were very friendly and a "fountain of information" about the school and it's transformation, the local area, and even hockey. John engaged our boys in conversation about their hockey games, as he also grew up in a "hockey family." John also, on many occasions assisted us with heavy hockey bags, to our room, and later, out to our vehicle. The breakfast was spectacular! All of us enjoyed banana stuffed french toast with fresh berry compote, whipped cream, real maple syrup, and sausage. Orange juice was also included and the coffee was prepared just the way we like it. Our boys placed their fabric napkins on their laps and we could tell they felt special to have this incredible breakfast with their moms. These are clearly owners that want their guests to enjoy their experiences as much as possible, and boy; we did! I was a bit worried about writing this review, as maybe the next time we are in town, John and Carlos will be booked. Surely, word will continue to get around about how great this B & B is! However, this review is well-deserved and I will cross my fingers that a room will be available the next time we are in town, because, we will be back! read more

We were in town for a wedding and decided to stay at the Sherman Inn B&B rather than a regular hotel and we are so glad that we did! The beautiful converted school still has enough of the original motif and signage that you know that it was once a school but not so much that you felt like a bell was going to ring at any moment. The rooms are converted classrooms and are huge! Each guest room is cleverly named and decorated based on every US President that had ever visited the Ogdensburg area. The rooms are not only huge but meticulous decorated with antique furniture, North Country crafts, Amish made pieces, and of course Fredric Remington prints and statues. In addition to the dedication library the rooms are chocked full of historic reading materials, some of which were authored by co-owner Jim Reagen. Jim and his wife and co-owner, Donna are great hosts and people. Jim was a newspaper editor for over 30 years in the area and is a wealth of knowledge. He gave us a very nice tour of the property and an interesting history lesson while showing us around. To me this is the quintessential bed and breakfast. Speaking of which the breakfasts we had were individually prepared and incredibly delicious! Donna and Jim live on the premise and are wonderful host! They could not have made us feel more at home! Sherman Inn is an amazing place. It used to be a school house and the rooms are in what used to be classrooms. Our room was 900 plus feet and included two queen beds and a huge living area. Jim And Donna run the hotel and Jim will give you a tour of the building when you arrive. Each room is named for a president. We stayed in the Cleveland room, which was the only room downstairs. There is no elevator in this building but there is a full kitchen included upstairs with a refrigerator, an oven, a microwave, and all the dishes and pots and pans and silverware and plates you would need to make all your own meals if you wanted to. Breakfast is included and is made by Donna and was wonderful. One day we had pancakes. One day we had an omelette. One day we had French toast. We had booked for only one night and ended up staying four. The rooms are furnished beautifully and this is not a stainless steel and glass modern decor. However, there are all the amenities you require, Wi-Fi, streaming TV, adequate outlets and soft bathrobes. This is one of the most interesting and delightful places we have ever stayed in and I recommend highly. Janet L read more

My company sent me up to Ogdensburg for the week to help open a new store. I thought they'd put me in a standard hotel as usual, but I couldn't have been more wrong! The Sherman INN is one of my new favorite core memories. It's a beautiful old school that was transformed as if it were out a movie, into a magical and cozy INN. The rooms are not only huge (think old classrooms), but completely furnished with gorgeous furniture and every amenity you'll ever need. I stayed in the SS Grant room, and it's honestly the nicest room I've stayed in while traveling. They serve a delicious breakfast every morning, and make you feel right at home as soon as you check in. Such a cool building to explore, a library, a gym, common rooms. It's endless, and very affordable! I will most definitely be coming back, this time not to work and to just enjoy the stay, and city of Ogdensburg. read more

We discovered the Sherman Inn when we were planning our visit to the Remington Museum. Are we glad we did! We were trying to stay in unique places during our road trip vacation and the Sherman Inn checked all of the boxes. It was definitely a one-of-a kind experience for us getting to stay in an old elementary school. The rooms are large, cozy and decorated perfectly. It's cool how they incorporated bits of the old classrooms into the décor. Breakfast was fabulous. We can't say enough about our hosts, Donna & Jim. They were accommodating and provided us with a ton of information about the area. Jim even gave us a tour of the school/B & B. This inn is a great find I stumbled upon when looking for a place to stay the night. Rich in history and beautifully decorated this one time school turned into an inn has a very unique setting. The historically based rooms have many fascinating features plus keeping the school theme as well was fun and interesting. The rooms are very spacious with all the amenities of a hotel, but feels more like home.Breakfast was delicious and beautiful at the same time. STOP AND STAY HERE! The Sherman Inn is without a doubt the most incredible stay I have ever had. My wife and I got stuck at the border and weren't able to cross. Jim and Donna welcomed us with open arms. Jim took us to get groceries our first night and Donna made us a wonderfully delicious breakfast(best French Toast I have ever had). The rooms are HUGE. Did I mention this place is an elementary school that has been converted into a BnB? It is so cool to visit and feel the nostalgia of walking through the school halls. Spent a great two nights at the Sherman Inn, and wish it could have been longer. The rooms are huge, combining a large bedroom area with a large living room area. They are beautifully decorated, comfortable, and despite their large size, feel cozy. The host could not be more accommodating. Jim and Donna clearly love what they do. I opened my door every morning to the wonderful smells of breakfast cooked by Donna, and Jim is a wealth of information about all things Ogdensburg, as well as Ogdensburg's history, both recent and past. I could not imagine better hosts, and am looking forward to my next visit. read more

Absolutely enormous rooms with lots of interesting little bits of local and educational history decorating every surface. It's quiet, comfortable and relaxing, and it's lovely to have enough sofas and chairs so one needs to sit on the bed! The Sherman Inn used to be an elementary school (I actually attended kindergarten and 1st grade there!) so it was a little weird sleeping in rooms where my friends, siblings and I attended classes, but it's definitely a great place to stay when visiting the North Country! read more

My family reserved the entire Sherman Inn for my daughter's wedding this past July. Donna and Jim were the perfect hosts to at this one-of-a-kind bed and breakfast. The rooms are spacious, and the breakfast is also tasty and a wonderful way to stay your day. I can't say enough nice things about this place. The rooms are huge, the common spaces are lovely, and the hosts could not be nicer or more accommodating. I went down as a part of a group of young Canadian journalists covering the election, and we turned the gymnasium into a functional newsroom. The steel caught the tires in its grooves and guided my car. I wondered if anyone would be at the border crossing, but it was staffed and I was waved through quickly. Ogdensburg has a motel, perhaps a walmart, some fast food restaurants, but at first I didn't think it had a hotel. I was driving slow in the dark not wanting to hit deer and, then, I even saw some deer. And just then, on the southern outskirts of Ogdensburg I saw the Stonefence resort and motel. It was about 10PM and no one was at the front desk, but there was a phone on the side of the wall and after picking up the receiver, it didn't take long for the owner came driving in. The motel was great - drive up right outside your door. With windows open on two sides of the room, a breeze comes through. It is a very comfortable bed, good wifi, good shower, good climate control. The back door and window looked down to the river. I mostly skip hotel breakfasts but I had the free one her:, made to order - fresh scrambled eggs, sausage, and potatoes, hot and cooked just right by a friendly member of the staff. The staff people are very helpful. I was moved on, but there is a nice boardwalk-type place on the water, with chairs under a gazebo. There are many, many kinds of rooms. I felt blessed and lucky to have not had to push on 45 miles in the dark toward watertown.

I think due to the holiday weekend lots of rooms were booked and we ended up having to get a two queen room as that was all that they had available. Bed is comfy enough but neither my wife or I really enjoy the pillows they have. The shower/tub and bathroom in general is nice enough. Their housekeeping is offered every other day so you won't get it unless you are staying longer. They do offer complimentary breakfast that seemed very typical but appreciate it being free compared to most hotels charging you. A good option for the area for a place to stay. By no means my favorite hotel but minimal complaints overall. I would stay again, but may bring my own pillow.

Only slight negative was the breakfast. Food quality was not as high as other hotel breakfasts I've had. The breakfast sandwiches were premade ones and limited hot items were microwave quality. Although the mango water was delicious! There is a plaza directly next door which was nice for a quick Pizza Hut fix. We paid about $160 for one night on a holiday weekend, overall an okay value. We'd recommend and return!

For starters, the owners were very friendly and truly dedicated their time to make sure their guests are happy. The place is homie and clean, the morning breakfast was perfect, we felt welcomed. If I ever travel to this area again I will stay here it ! I'm sad we were only day one night. On a side note, their two adorable dogs were just as friendly and inviting as their owners.

I'm only giving 4 stars because it's not a luxury hotel with a mountain or lake view at a resort…read more We needed a room near Potsdam because reunion weekend at Clarkson had taken all the rooms there. This hotel was perfect for our needs. It's clean and recently remodeled. The bed and bedding were incredible. The bathroom has one of those simulated tile showers where there's no grout to turn moldy and black -- I love that. It's very clean and spacious. The bathroom counter was nice and easy to keep clean with cool lights built into the mirror. The outstanding thing (my career was in tech so this pleases me) is their concern for device connectivity. The Wi-Fi wasn't necessarily speedy but the power and charging outlets are over the top. I'll try to post photos of the desk lamp that has universal international power sockets plus one USB socket. I've not seen that flexibility before. The wall under the tv has US power and USB sockets. Even the breakfast room has power built into some high top tables. Overall the hotel has no style. It was inexpensive, clean, and utilitarian. Everything is neat but not fancy. In the end, I'd be happy to stay here again.

The inn features two rooms (Sunrise and Sunset) which are across the hall from each other. Each features a spacious bedroom, large closet, television, fridge, and bathroom. And every morning, a very tasty breakfast is served downstairs (the highlight for me was the homemade granola!). There is also a communal living room downstairs with ample guide books, magazines, board games, and the like, and there is a screened-in porch where breakfast is served on warmer days (unfortunately, I wasn't there on a warmer day). Do note two things - first, there is a dog and a VERY lovely cat (indeed, Henry made my stay charming). And second, there's very little in walking distance of the Akins (in other words, bring a car).
