I'd originally planned to volunteer as a helper at the horse camp, quickly determined I was allergic to horses, and wound up working as a volunteer photographer and doing some other miscellaneous tasks, which gave me a glimpse into what a magical place this is. An over-night camp for children who might not otherwise be able to afford such a camping opportunity, Pretty Lake teaches skills like swimming, sailing, archery, ropes courses, etc. and provides a great sense of camaraderie for its campers. The counsellors and staff are incredible and the overall vibe is super positive.

Both facilities have lap pools but only the downtown facility has a second, warmer pool with kid water features. We do go downtown sometimes just for that pool. I read several other reviews and laughed as the downtown facility layout is a bit confusing, but is doesn't take that long to figure out where everything is. Children are around but I haven't been bothered by any.

Before KAT, I didn't know what to do in a gym and often stuck with running on a treadmill. At KAT, they make personalized programs tailored to your individual fitness goals and abilities. I've learned and done tons of exercises with barbells, dumbbells, bands, bodyweight, etc. that work all the different muscles in the body. All of the trainers are exceptionally knowledgeable. They teach you the exercises and make sure you have the proper form and prevent injuries. They also push you when they know you can do more. And they're incredibly friendly, which makes working out a lot more fun. Over time, my fitness abilities have improved immensely. KAT's more personalized than traditional group fitness classes or open gyms, but not as expensive or intimidating as personal training. There's a maximum of 4 people per session, and it's very motivating and fun seeing other people also working towards their individual fitness goals. At the end of every session, we do a "burn out" together where we do several exercises together and it's a lot of fun. Wearing my fins during all my swims taking them off at the end and they are strengthening my legs and glutes considerably. Dawn reminded me that fins are a tool not a crutch. The encouragement and guidance are intrigal to our improving our swim. I love the videos that are sent to us every week to review techniques we have worked on during the Sunday training in the pool. They are so helpful! The coaches work with us closely on the four separate weight training for swim days as well. They have been game changers. I am swimming 3-4 days a week. I am impressed with my progress! The homework is vital to improvement. I am so impressed with this class Advanced/Intermediate and the Beginners Swim Swim Class, with Athletic Mentors! They do an amazing job guiding us. My leg strength is so important... but we were always told that since we do long distance swimming our kick wasn't that important, saving our legs for the bike... Well... IT IS! Tom told us that our kick helps 10 percent of our balance. This is a new concept for me. I just started swimming 2 seasons ago. This is my third season. Still working on getting the paddle to stay in my forehead when I breathe. It is amazing how I didn't realize I lifted my head too much as well. Well! I did pretty much everything wrong.... lol... it is crazy... I podiumed every race with this horrible swim technique!!!! How is that even possible? Could be there aren't that many women my age racing the longer distances... . Anyway... I never imagined learning so much in such a short period of time. Thank you for your support and encouragement in this class! Every triathlete should take advantage of these classes! There are homework work outs and videos to review swim techniques as well as exercises to strengthen your swim. They also offer swim and weight training and the Vassar for swim is also vital and extremely important. I actually got the Vassar to move me on Thursday... another mile stone miracle for me!!!! I love your class and the weight training! The instructors in the weight training are wonderful and thorough and fun! I even enjoyed watching the ice skaters they also train! You will receive encouragement and guidance on doing your weight training correctly! I am practicing my balance on my Bosu. Thank you for all you do, Athletic Mentors, for your triathletes! I can't say enough about this amazing program and establishment. They need a 10 star rating not 5 stars... Thank you for all you do so incredibly!

All children are welcome, no matter their background or behavior. As an employee, I feel like I belong here. I'm supported by the administration and they reach out to check on all of us. We do our best to be like a family here. We have monthly training nights and occasional professional development workshops to support the teachers in being the best they can be. I was supported while being pregnant and on maternity leave. As a parent, my child has learned so much here. He loves his friends and teachers, and I'm not sure where we would be without SaSLS! My son loves to come to school every day. He learns something new every day. I trust that he is safe, fed, and engaged in meaningful activities. The staff truly do care for every child in their care and treat them as their own! I also feel supported as a parent, and there's great teamwork built between caregivers and families. I strongly believe that my child's development and growth have been benefited by being at SaSLS.
