Back for dinner on the way through. I really need to expand my choices but I just love their chicken livers! They aren't over breaded like so many places get them and are not over cooked. This time I had a baked potato but I didn't eat much of it because I was prioritizing the livers! Their rolls are also always big and fluffy. They say like home, makes you think of real ingredients and good comfort food. I ordered a mushroom Swiss bell pepper omelette. What I envisioned was fresh mushrooms, fresh bell pepper and Swiss (with the holes in it and tastes like Swiss). What I got was a gooey white American flavored processed cheese slice called Swiss canned mushrooms and frozen bell peppers. The grits were served with a big glop of margarine which ruined the flavor, the grits were watery and crunchy, It was not good. $10.49 was the price, no one noticed until I ate the hashbrowns and toast and my husband ate his entire meal. By then I'm just ready to go. The waitress noticed and she grabbed our ticket and talked to another lady. That lady wanted us to pay $9.99 and I heard something said that i just got water. When I get the ticket I was charged individually for each side charging us $8.99 that is a $1.50 discount . Food was ok and what you would expect from a small family owned restaurant. Their chicken fried steak, catfish and pork chop were pretty good. They unfortunately fell short at the desserts. They boasted an awesome cinnamon roll that was not very flavorful and seemed like a microwaved store bought run of the mill roll. The banana and chocolate cream pies had a 2.5 inch meringue and a quarter of an inch pie filling. We wish we had just left after dinner. Service was very kind and attentive. But the server was uninterested in serving and took forever to get us waters and then another eternity to take our orders. We ordered many simple things and they screwed up every one of them. The pancakes were burned. My scrambled eggs were so over done and disgusting. The grits were clearly made by some who had never had grits in their life. A cheeseburger had been cooked beyond anyone's ability to believe there was meat and not a hockey puck. Lastly, I got sausage gravy with no sausage. It was peppery white sauce. We arrived at 1245 and the place was packed! We were quickly seated and greeted by our friendly waitress! Looking over the huge menu that was supplemented by their Sunday specials we settled on fried shrimp for me and fried chicken livers for my husband. So good and huge portions! They serve a variety of home made pie for dessert and we had to pace ourselves, leaving almost half of our lunch on the plate. (Big portions!) We settled on splitting a piece of coconut meringue pie. As was the rest of the meal, the pie was out of this world. We could see why this place is a hit with the locals! Our waitress was so nice and friendly and the atmosphere was small town America! My husband and I were out of town and stopped in this diner for a late breakfast and we are so glad we did. Not only did we get breakfast, but we got side of fried cabbage and white beans. I LOVED the fried cabbage, it was some of the BEST I'd ever tasted. We both also very much liked their cream gravy and would give that and the side of fried cabbage a 5. I had a ham steak for breakfast and WOWZER was it BIG!!! I would definitely give it a 5 for a serving size. I ate some for breakfast, gave some to my husband, took the rest home and halved it with him for breakfast the next day. We seem to both like the hash browns and would give our breakfast a 4. Both burgers were loaded with too much mustard. Some of the pickles were sweet instead of dill. The patties were burnt on the outer edges. The French fries were stale, cold, and chewy.
