Male employee in the glasses was one of the rudest i've ever dealt with. Not sure what possesses someone to be so rude to a stranger

Mason provided us with sample sheets and booklets that were very helpful.  We left the store after posted closing time of 6PM, but Mason never rushed us or made us feel we were delaying his departure.  We are very happy we met Mason and will continue to exclusively use Sherwin Williams paints and Mason's expertise for all of our future painting needs.  We are new to Salem and we will emphasize to others the tremendous personal qualities of Mason as we meet new people.  Please extend to Mason our sincere appreciation for his vast knowledge, being so helpful with his outstanding customer service!!

The other half is the true salvage business and it is impressively robust. The folks at the front were friendly and the wood stove was very welcome on this warm day. It's a great place to take out of town guests. Fun to find items you didn't know you needed but can't leave without. And maybe a spare window frame or old bar top as well.

We planned to arrive early on Sunday afternoon after confirming their hours. The parking lot was large enough to accommodate the number of visitors and we found a spot and began walking around the exterior to check things out. There was a food truck in parking lot which we did not check out because we just had breakfast at Scratch Biscuit Company up the road. They also have a small amphitheater out side where it appears they do events. The entry to the amphitheater has some of their salvage from the Capital Center in Landover, MD. Michael, one of the employees saw us walking toward the back yard and we began to chat. He was friendly and accommodating and told us a few things about some ironwork recently salvaged from the Piedmont Triad which is our home. He also gave us a few tips on navigating the interior. We made our way inside and were blown away by the sheer number of items. The store appears to be very well organized and arranged with designated areas for items such as doors, windows , plumbing, electrical and hardware. Mixed amongst each space are salvaged items from all over the world. We thought the majority of the prices were reasonable considering the amount of time, effort, and money that is required to secure the items. We also learned that a good portion of the building is designated for various people to setup consignment spaces showcasing their treasures for sale. We once again ran into Michael and he asked us if we had a few minutes. We were happy to tag along side him while he pointed out some very cool hand carved pieces from India and Egypt. We really enjoyed our conversation and appreciated Michael's love and enthusiasm for vintage pieces. It was fun to talk with someone who appreciates the craftsmanship and history of pieces. Black Dog also features a good amount of swag items which will be fun to look back and remember our time in Roanoke. Awesome experience!

Just for example a few days after we completed the project a neighbor called me to warn me that water was building up at the basement door! The last thing I needed was a flooded basement right after such a beautiful job was done. I called CE painting to see if there was anything they could do and within minutes in the rain, they were there with the tools to clear the drain!! Entering the store was like discovering a whole new world filled with a curated selection of unique furniture, home decor, gifts, and local art, emphasizing quality, sustainable design, and truly unique pieces with lasting style. After having been selected as number 4 of Yelp's Top 50 most prolific Elites of 2025, a year when I also was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Photographer of the Year Award at their Yelpies 2025 Award Ceremony, an event that honored the highest-performing Yelp Elites, and where last year I was awarded the Yelp Triad Squad Yelper of the Year Award, I decided that this year, as an All-Star Yelp Elite, I not only wanted to be the first to discover new restaurants and businesses, and bring them to the attention of the public, but also to uncover those found in hidden paths that for one reason or another have not reached the public in its totality. And Present Thyme, in Roanoke, Virginia, is a perfect example. Located in the Towers Shopping Center, in Southwest Roanoke, Present Thyme has been a community staple for over 45 years, yet it was only today that I became aware of its existence. Inside, I found an extensive variety of unique, one-of-a-kind items, from antique furniture in excellent condition, to quality gifts and luxury bedding, to amazing treasures from local artisans. The store philosophy is to focus on high-quality, high-end, timeless pieces that become part of a home's story, with a commitment to local artisans and sustainable design. There, one can find high-end, unique furniture, including antique pieces, elegant home decor items, including vintage European crystal chandeliers, Venetian glass mirrors, handblown glass bowls, and collectibles serving trays, among other things such as clothing that blend clasic style with modern flair, bedding, gifts and children's items. And what fascinated me the most was the local art and artworks, including pieces from local artists such as Greg Osterhaus, which I found the most extensive paintings from him anywhere around, including his famous cow portraits and local landscapes. The owner of this store, Dorian Clowers, does an extraordinary job in bringing together products from artisans in Roanoke and the surrounding region. If you think the products of this store are amazing, its staff are the most friendly and helpful store employees that I have ever encountered. They helped me find more information and price of one of Greg Osterhaus paintings that I showed interest in. The time in there went by so fast that before I knew it, it was already closing time. I highly recommend this high-end home decor store for those times when you're looking for a very unique gift for someone special in your life, or just to bring into your home as a stand out piece.
