I needed a small quantity of touch up paint for my walls. The associate refused to match the paint saying that he needed a sample from my wall and suggested I go home and cut out a piece of my wallboard - at least the size of a quarter! Oh- and it needed to be a piece that was exposed to the light etc in case my off-white paint had discolored. (My house is fairly new.) basically he did not want to bother with making just a quart and told me that only his top line paint was available in a quart. So - I offered to buy a gallon of cheaper paint and I told him I would be satisfied with a less than perfect color match since I just needed it for touch-up. He again refused telling me to go home and cut out a hole in my wall! I happen to have been a good customer of this location and had bought several thousand dollars of paint over the past few years - but the associate did not recognize me- and treated me like somebody who was just looking to use a 25% coupon for a small item which he did not want to bother with.

The fact that the company is owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway lends further credibility. We purchased a six-piece bedroom set (totally USA made), and were able to negotiate a very fair price (no, you needn't pay the MSRP). Our salesperson, TuTu, was knowledgeable, very professional and courteous ... a pleasure to work with. So why not five stars? (1) Delivery fee is close to $300 (one reason why we felt obligated to negotiate) ... but these folks do not move out any furniture or haul away unwanted pieces. The room must be empty of any furnishings prior to their arrival. As people in our eighties, we'll have to rely on others to help. Thankfully, our grandkids and their boyfriends are in great shape. Star's competitor (the mattress guy) has similar top-quality furniture, and offers delivery/haul-away services at no charge ... but we really wanted the set we saw at Star over anything at his location. (close call, though). (2) Star offers interest-free financing for two years. However, if the sale amount is not paid in full by then, interest is retroactively charged from the date of purchase. The suggested monthly payment is not large enough to cover the purchase price ... kinda sneaky. In addition, they charge $15 for a credit applkication. After spending about $8000, one would think that the least they could do is absorb that fee. Of course, management deleted it when we advised TuTu that we wouldn't pay it. Actually, our only reason for using the credit option was to keep our savings earning interest while paying down the bill. We ultimately decided to pay it off immediately, lest there be any issue with the financing agency down the road. We'd only hope that Star would rethink those nickel-and-dime charges that put a bit of a damper on the experience ... anyone have Warren Buffett's phone number?

It was all delivered last Thursday. I checked for visual damages and didn't see anything. One of the items we bought was a large ottoman. We had put it to the side and hadn't used it in the following days, but on Monday (just four days after receiving it), we had people over and my daughter who is in elementary school sat down on it and the leg broke! Upon examination, the wood panel underneath which held the two legs in one side had completely split. When we called to report that our new, used once ottoman had broke and requested a replacement, they said it wasn't their problem. We should have had someone sit on each and check that the pieces weren't going to break on us when it was delivered!! We have to use our warranty which we purchased separately. So now we can't even use a piece of furniture that we literally bought less than a week ago and used once. Completely unacceptable for how much we are paying for the furniture in the first place! Depending on what happens and whether it is remedied, we may not be buying from Star again if that is the quality and how they handle customer satisfaction.
