As returning guests of FivePine Lodge, Shibui Spa was at the top of our list to revisit. One visit was all it took to know we'd be back. Located right on the FivePine property, Shibui strikes that perfect balance between luxury and tranquility. From the moment you walk through the doors, you feel yourself start to relax. The space is warm and inviting, and it's easy to forget about everything waiting for you outside. This time, I booked the Himalayan Salt Stone Massage. I've had plenty of hot stone massages over the years, but this felt different. The warm salt stones seemed to provide a deeper, more soothing experience, and it was so relaxing that I actually dozed off for a bit, which almost never happens. What I appreciate most about Shibui is that it feels genuinely welcoming. It's upscale without being stuffy, and everyone we encountered made us feel right at home. I also enjoyed browsing the spa shop afterward. They have a nice selection of products and gifts. If you're staying at FivePine, put Shibui on your list. If you're visiting Sisters or live nearby, it's worth booking a treatment even if you're not staying at the resort. We made a point of coming back, and I'd happily do it again. My only complaint is that their schedule was too booked for me to also book a massage This place is magical. If you've ever been to an onsen in Japan, this place nails recreating a natural onsen spa experience. From the minute you walk in the door, your stress is lifted off your shoulders. The space is very clean and inviting- complete with a lovely hot tea and flavored water. Oh, and how could I forget the complimentary nuts? You can purchase day passes for around $30. If you book a service, you gain access to the sauna and hot tub. I had the eyelash tint and lift and the woman who did was very talented and personable. Would not recommend. Came out to $170 for one pretty meh massage. Massage therapist was quite rude and seemed annoyed to be there from the beginning, and I heard her talking about me after the service was done. Sauna use was a big reason for booking and it was broken, and the staff weren't sympathetic of that. They're charging some serious luxury pricing, went to Hawaii in the fall and prices were at par with the really fancy and high end resort spas there. The hot tub was fine but did not make up for the broken sauna, rude staff, and overpriced back rub. I would recommend the Sunriver spa if you're looking to splurge, nicer space and kinder employees. read more

I have been going to shibui spa since 2012. It has been a source of respite and relaxation. When I spoke on the phone this year however, shibui has gone super political. The reception has said "we have to wear masks...Unfortunately." when we asked if employees for facials were vaccinated, they said "my body my choice." It is super awkward and weird to have such an intimate setting with a giant buddha statue inside to be so self absorbed and non world conscious. Sadly will never be coming back. And wonder what the people of Thailand, Sri Llanka, and other Buddhist monks would think of this spa touting rhetoric while the people of those countries lie in severe danger without vaccine. :( Stuff I did not want to consider while relaxing at a spa. read more

Improve your reception experience. My mom with Parkinson's and dementia and I should not be greeted with a harsh scolding when we arrived minutes late. She has a walker and can't move any faster. We drove over three hours for this, and the initial impression was SO POOR. Sylvia needs training. Read the room, Sylvia! I'm trying my best to provide my mom with a relaxing Mother's Day weekend, fully knowing this might be the last one she remembers. Shame on you! There were about a million other ways you could have started off. Like WELCOME! I never heard that! Or, how about I'M SORRY when we were leaving. If I'm not demanding extra time, there was NO NEED to go on and on about the time, focusing on the wait time of the practitioners. It's OUR time and I pay for it, whatever we get, we get. Instead you chose to ruin the entire experience for me. I'm a full time caregiver to two persons, and I work full time. How absolutely insensitive of you to take such a nasty tone with me and keep shoving the forms in my face to get me to hurry. The thing to do is graciously check us in, and guide us through the experience. Neither mom nor I would have known on the treatment side of things if it had to be shortened to stay on time. Instead I was left tense and upset. I have been to many high end spas around the globe, and while the treatments were great, the check in experience was very poor and ruined the entire experience. read more

What a wonderful spa experience! I was already relaxed and feeling great because Sisters is so beautiful and Five Pine Lodge is my favorite place to stay in the country, but the spa elevated that experience even more. The staff are great - both at the front desk and the masseuses. The ambiance is very chill, quiet, calming, and serene. The facilities and locker room were well stocked, clean, and spacious. My massage was a strong one but my back felt like a million bucks afterward. No complaints here. The pricing was what I would have expected, and fair for the service I received. read more

The staff took excellent care of my wife who is suffering from dementia. This was a Mother's Day gift from our two sons for their lovely Mom. Shibui allowed me to stay in the massage room to ease any anxiety my wife may have experienced. Sadly my experience was sub-par. My friends love this place, so I was excited to treat myself. I had a 90 min deep tissue massage, with a price tag of $195. My massage therapist was massaging me at a 1-2 on the pressure scale. It was very light and unproductive. I kept asking for her to increase the pressure, so she would....she would take it up to a 9-10 where I was unable to breath for a few minutes and then be back to the 1-2 super light massage again. It was the least enjoyable massage I have ever had. I think she was just lazy. And to make it worse, I was up in the loft room that is open to the waiting area below. I got to listen to other people's conversations while I had my $195 massage! Absolutely not my idea of relaxation. I wasn't impressed with the hot tub. It smelled like a public pool. For a spa experience worth the prices they charge, it would be nice to have healthier salt pools. read more

I had a wonderful experience at Shibui from beginning to end. Starting with the robes and slippers, getting to hear the water feature while getting my massage, with the fire going on a cold /snowy day, enjoying the hot tub after and then showering with all the essentials. Jen was by far one of the best massage therapist I've ever had. Her deep tissue technique is amazing, somehow she is able to get deep in the muscles and work out knots without me feeling like I'm getting beat up in the process (I've felt this with other therapist in the past). I was very impressed along with my bridal party, we went in for manicures and pedicures, we all were treated so lovely, it felt relaxing yet luxurious. Once you get past the lobby of this place it is unbelievably beautiful and relaxing. The pictures on the website really don't do it justice. The locker room is well-equipped with everything you need in case you didn't bring your own toiletries. The relaxation room is really just a waiting room for between services, but it's comfortable and stocked with cold water, hot tea, and a mixture of dried fruit and nuts in case you need a snack I cannot say enough good things about the Thai Bandle Massage. It was just absolutely perfect and I would definitely go back for this next time I'm in the area. I like a deep massage and my therapist was able to apply the perfect pressure. A nice thing about this one is that you also get to take the bandle home for future use on soar muscles. I can't say the same about the facial, and definitely not about the pedicure. I have very sensitive skin and had a pretty bad reaction to whatever was put on my face. I was told they used their most gentle products, so it sounds like it was just an incompatibility issue between their stuff and my skin. We'll just have to call that one a draw. This was probably the worst pedicure I've ever had. She basically just rubbed lotion on my legs for awhile and then painted my toenails, but not even well. I payed extra for the shellac upgrade and the polish completely peeled off within 36 hours. I didn't pick at it or anything, just took my socks off and the polish came with it. To my surprise, the polish from a previous pedicure was still on underneath that. She didn't even remove that, so I'm sure that's part of why this new one came off. You should certainly go for a massage and enjoy the amenities. I would even go so far as to recommend a facial (as long as you don't have sensitive skin), but skip the pedicure and head to a strip mall nail salon for that. read more

This is a true gem. I came here for a couples massage and brought my step mom for a facial. From the moment you walk in and are greeted by the giant Buddha in the pond...the world seems to melt away. We spent hours taking advantage of the facilities including the hot tub, sauna and lovely outdoor spaces. The couples massage was amazing and performed in the open air room above the Buddha pond. Our therapists were fantastic and so was my stepmom's facial. We usually get up to this part of Oregon every summer and it will definitely be on my to do list on every visit from now on. This is a spa in Sisters, OR (10 mins from Black Butte and about 20 mins from Bend) that needs to get on the map! My mom, aunt and I called a few weeks ago in the morning to see if we could get massages that afternoon. They got us in and we were so glad we went! This was truly a day spa experience with great amenities. It has a very "zen" feel to it, which began the relaxation process upon arrival. The locker rooms were stocked with everything one might need. There was a nice co-ed jacuzzi with a peaceful sounding waterfall next to it. The relaxation room had personal plated nuts and dried fruits, along with tea and water. There's an outdoor relaxation area as well that was simply perfect. My massage was really good and I believe I had Cindy. She was attentive and very sweet. She did really good neck work, which I enjoyed. I highly recommend this day spa if you are in the area, local or on vacation. The prices are right for all of the amenities. We were pleasantly surprised with our experience given that spas can be hit or miss!!! We will be back for sure next summer. read more

Went here today with my husband. We are newlyweds and needed a relaxing day after all the wedding planning. We enjoyed it very much! We went early to get in to hot tub and relax in our robes. We then got a couples massage. The room was so relaxing. Nice and warm. Right about their waterfall. They have water and coffee. And nut mix to snack. We both enjoyed our massages as well. She is incredibly professional, experienced and knowledgeable. But what really stood out was her genuine grace and nurturing throughout the experience. Technically called Shibui, this Spa facility at Five Pines is the Perfect blend of East meets West decor and ambiance. As with the Beautifully designed Cabins on the property, this spa is the ideal creation of what I envision in a spa. When you enter the spa from where you check in, you are refreshingly greeted by an indoor Zen waterfall with a large Buddha statue. Lemon infused water, mint tea and small servings of trail mix are all offered in the waiting area. There are two outdoor seating areas if you want to catch some rays, the locker rooms provide all the toiletries you would need, the thermal soaking tub is wonderful and all the staff was extremely friendly. We decided to do the brief 30min massage so we could hit the road back home earlier. To do any service at this spa is worth the opportunity to take advantage of the whole spa, although it is small it was SO worth it! My husband and I fell in love with the Five Pines Property and will definitely be back! Quite the suprise in little Sisters, OR. read more

The spa facilities are WONDERFUL. But we got a mani pedi there for my wedding and it was the most un relaxing experience ever. The women were so unprofessional and talked loudly the entire time. They made it clear that one of them had no professional training. And the the other woman did an awful job on my nails. It is way too expensive for the the awful nail job and that there was no super great hand and foot massage. My wife and I visited Shibui for a one hour couples massage. Shibui is all about the ambiance. It's in a nice building, with a fancy lobby, a beautiful waterfall feature, and full bathrooms with every amenity you can think of. When we arrived we were given a tour of the spa, then sent to the quiet room to fill out paperwork. Then my wife and I were off to separate bathrooms to change into robes, and back to the quiet room. Finally we were escorted to our massage room above the waterfall in the center of the spa. After the massage, my wife and I retreated to our separate bathrooms to shower and get dressed before meeting up in the quiet room again. Unfortunately, despite all the ritual and ambiance, I found the massage to be somewhat below average. My therapist did not massage my hands or feet, and the remainder seemed kind of hit and miss. Too much attention on some areas, and not enough on others. I also found Shibui lacking as a couples experience. Other than the massage tables being in the same room, we were separated for showering, dressing, etc. It didn't give us much bonding time. My wife seemed to enjoy her massage, so our visit wasn't a total loss. Personally, I find couples spa experiences more romantic and enjoyable when we can actually dress, shower, etc. together as a couple. Otherwise, we might as well go get separate massages. read more

I have visited this spa twice and overall I love it. My sisters and I want to make it an annual activity during our family vacation. My most recent visit I decided to have two services; Dance of the Desert and a Manicure with shellac polish. The Dance of the Desert treatment was AMAZING! It was incredibly relaxing and my skin felt amazing after. I wish i could do something like that every month, but it was very much a splurge for me. I decided to add the manicure on last minute because I was not ale to get one before we left for the weekend. This was a major DISAPPOINTMENT! Not only did I pay more for a manicure that was terrible, I had to pay an extra $10 for the Shellac! There was no nail or cuticle clean and the shellac polish started coming off in two days. I really wish i could give the nail service one star and a five for the rest. I would recommend going to Shibui for a body treatment and to enjoy the additional amenities they have that go along with it (hot tub, sauna). If you want your nails done go to a walk in nail salon. It will be much cheaper and better quality! read more

I've had a brow wax here and thought it was pretty good. They're also open on Sunday's which worked well for me last minute. My friend & I had side by side pedicures and this was disappointing. It's not that the two women weren't nice, they absolutely were. The pedicure area was squashed into a corner and very awkward to step up and sit down on a cushion that moved around. I believe we paid $60 or so for each pedicure and there was no foot or leg massage, nothing special, just soak, trim nails polish. I would recommend somewhere else for a pedicure, if I had to value the quality of how they do it, I would say maybe $30. So far in Bend area I think Tangerine Salon Downtown (I had Alicia) does a great pedicure & they were not more than $45. Still exploring other salons but Shibui was very mediocre and for the money it was very disappointing. read more

Overall, it was a 5-star experience! After a week in Sisters, it was the perfect relaxing treat! We were greeted by friendly staff and the massage therapists were very professional! Yesterday at Shibui Spa I enjoyed the most incredible spa experience of my life. I was so blessed to be a recipient of Shibui's "gift of giving back" campaign! (I have cancer and was nominated by a dear friend.) You can imagine my delight and gratitude...but here is something even more amazing: as high as my expectations and hopes were for this special day of pampering, Shibui exceeded every one. From the moment I entered the spa, I was made to feel like a full-paying customer (which is to say, like royalty!). Nothing about my visit bespoke a "this poor girl" or "charity case" mentality. I was welcomed warmly; treated to a full tour of the facility by Kendra, who explained some special aspects and details about the spa; and encouraged to soak in the exquisitely crafted soaking pool, followed by sipping tea in the relaxation room until it was time for my massage. You need to know that every detail was perfect. From the spa-provided robes and slippers to the all-inclusive baskets of amenities in the changing rooms to the atmosphere of hushed relaxation to the the tranquil pools and waterfalls that grace much of the interior space, I have never enjoyed such luxury. But then it got even better, if you can imagine that. My spa therapist/masseuse, Kaitlyn, spent almost two hours giving me the spa treatment of my choice: the Lotus Dream. It was sheer bliss, and afterward I was encouraged to enjoy some time in the sauna to allow the essential oils and such soak into my skin. Kaitlyn is AMAZING. I have never felt so spoiled. Please, do yourself or someone you love a huge favor and splurge on a treatment at this world-class resort spa. It's easy to review when things go well - but what really sets a business apart is how they handle things when they don't go exactly as planned. I had a reaction to a facial - let me stress it was absolutely NO fault of the spa, esthetician, or anything like that, likely hormones, too much sun or some fluke thing like that as I've had this facial before. Anyhow, once I let them know because I was sure they could help, they acted fast, asked me to come back to look at it, gave me some magic salve that took the sting right out, refunded me, despite my protests and went well above and beyond to ensure I felt cared for!!!
