I have had two Shifman Heritage Legacy firm pillow top mattresses and they have been wonderful. My current one is 7 years old and is still great. I flip them once a year. These are supportive and work for back and side sleepers. It is now in my guest room and every guest raves about this mattress. I am currently looking for a similar Shifman for a platform bed that cannot use a boxsprings and needs less height. I know a box spring or bunkie board does extend the life of the mattresses. I am leaning toward the same mattress but without a pillow top. I will review it when I spend some time with it. Yes, it is expensive, but a mattress is my most important purchase, so it is an investment in my sleep and health! read more

Mattress defective from day one! It sunk 5 inches. We are average size people. We got full refund!!! Customer service rep in shock when he saw our 3 week old mattress! We got a beautiful black beautyrest top of line mattress with adjustable base for less money but not much less. My lower back is restored! read more

Terrible mattresses- I bought my first firm mattress and within a week in had body impressions and was sinking. I exchanged it for a pricier, extra firm one, and now my back hurts and it's again sinking after just a few days. We purchased a Shifman Mattress from Bloomingdale's around two years ago. The story behind this wonderful bed was impressive. The factory video and marketing espoused the amazing hand-made process. Tons of premium stuffed cotton. Hand tied. Unmatched comfort and support. It even came with mandatory instructions to rotate it and flip it on a set periodic timeframe to ensure it didn't develop depressions. We did all the flipping and turning despite the extremely heavy weight of the unit After two years, my husband's side developed a deep depression--and he's thin!! Flipping it had less and less effect over time. The cotton stuffing appeared to be moving to the center of the mattress. This "hole" became so deep that his back would hurt every morning. It got so bad we stacked books under my husband's hole to get by. Finally we called Bloomingdale's and got someone to come take a look. Before the guy arrived we pull the books out. The guy arrived with a tape measure and a string. He pulled the string tight across the bed and then measured the distance between the string and the mattress surface. Finally we thought of $6,000 Shifman mattress would be fixed or replaced and the backaches would end!!--Nope!!!! The man said we were 1/2" short of qualifying 1.5" for a replacement. In addition, we would have to wait a YEAR to call again for another measurement!!!! While we loved the mattress for the first year or so, it lasted many years less than cheaper brands. Sad that another American-made item joins the long list of inferior service, support and quality from both Bloomingdale's and the Shifman Co. read more

Absurdly overpriced, even when they are at their typical 50% off price at Macy's and Bloomingdale's. When it comes to their mid-tier products (i.e., $4000 or so), there are so many competing mattresses (Avocado, etc.) for a lot less money. When it comes to their more expensive models at Bloomingdale's, you are better off saving your money and getting something like ViSpring. read more

In 2013, we purchased a Shifman mattress. The mattress is a complete disappointment. Although we carefully followed the instructions, turning the mattress over and rotating it according to the prescribed schedule, it very quickly developed body impressions that do not go away. We both have bad backs and have suffered from the lack of firmness and support. We spent what to us is a lot of money in order to guarantee purchasing an excellent quality mattress. A representative from the dealer came and inspected the mattress and determined that it was not bad enough to contact Shifman. To us, it's been bad from the beginning, and we will have to replace it, much earlier than one would expect to have to do so. read more

I purchased a twin sized Shifman Mattress from Bloomingdales 6 years ago, I put much thought into buying this mattress due to the price $3200.00. I was very happy for the first 3 years, I then notice that the mattress was softening on the edge and the center was beginning to sag. Bloomingdales did send a rep to examine my mattress, he was there for About 5 minutes and concluded there was nothing wrong. Fast forward this very expensive mattress which is in pristine condition is painful to sleep on. I have had several conversations with management at Bloomingdales all have been moot! It is sad and upsetting that a store once known to have great customer service couldn't care less. Think before you purchase a shifman mattress! read more

After so many years of sleeping on brands like Sealys and Stearns, my husband and I decided 2 yrs ago that it was time to invest in something that would last us much longer and one that would not SINK or loose it's 'Day 1' quality. I shopped around and researched the different company's out there (as there are so many claiming to provide the most comfortable, highest quality). After seeing a video of how they actually made the mattress, I was sold. Needless to say, we are extremely happy with our purchase. Just a side note, make sure you let the sales associate know before making a purchase as to what comfort level you're looking for (they have a bunch of different types, firm, extra plush, etc etc.). We like ours soft so we have the "Van Gogh" pillowtop. My son loves it so much that I'm shopping around for another one! read more

My family has been sleeping on Shifman mattresses for years. We all have different sleep needs and sleep comfortably on mattresses from different Shifman lines. My mother who has multiple back and spine issues - spinal stenosis, compressed discs and osteoarthritis also sleeps on a Shifman mattress which she purchased from Bloomingdales several years ago. She became increasingly more active after purchasing this mattress. We had no idea how much having the right mattress can decrease pain levels and increase mobility. For a very expensive mattress Shifman has very low standards and very poor customer relations. When we complained that our mattress has big depressions they asked us to send photos which we did. The response was that the depressions do not exceed 1.5 inches so they will not do anything and we should flip the mattress more to prevent the depressions. Our mattress was flipped frequently. I do not know how they could determine from the photos that the depressions do not exceed 1.5 inches; I believe they do. But why should we have to sleep on a mattress with depressions. It is so uncomfortable that I cannot sleep on it. read more

Ok, this mattress saved my life. That is no joke. Having had many years of back trouble, and surgeries I was desperate to find a comfortable mattress. I went to a department store that sold Shifman and other brands and I bought the foam mattress that is heavily advertised. Worst nights sleep ever. After two years I was going crazy with back stiffness and pain every day. I knew the mattress was the problem, but what to do? I traded for a crazy firm mattress, handmade, cotton mattress that I thought would never be comfortable. Guess what? Best nights sleep ever! Shifman is quality that you just don't find anymore. Do yourself a favor and don't buy a cheap foam mattress (that isn't inexpensive) that will breakdown in just a few years. Buy a Shifman. Worth the money because I wake up every day without back pain! read more

I bought my first Shifman Mattress in Bloomdales in 2001. It lasted me over ten years and was only tossed out due to the impossibility of getting such a heavy, well-made mattress down my third floor tenement stairs. I switched brands to my regret and have never gotten the good night's sleep I had with my Shifman. I can't even turn the mattress over because it is a one-sided mattress, something I was unaware of. When this one bites the dust, I'm returning to Shifman. It is a costly product and worth every cent. read more

$4,500 for a queen size mattress and foundation and a back ache every morning! When I called their customer service, the response was (1) it was my fault because the mattress had not gotten used to me yet (after five months?) and (2) what do you want us to do about it? Then, she hung up. A second call was even worse. Someone who said she was Eileen screamed when I protested about the first call and said "I can put you on hold" before hanging up. The crudest, rudest people I have ever encountered in business. Needless to say, their creation is out of my house, and none will ever return. read more

Much like the previous review, I am 5 months into my Shifman Van Gogh purchase and feel as if I have been taken for nearly $5,000. To make matters worse, I purchased from a Stickley store which does not take these mattresses back but neither did they tell me (a 62 year old female who lives alone) that I would have to flip it on a monthly basis for the first 6 months. I have not written nor called Shifman but after reading negative comments on their customer service, I am not hopeful of any recourse. I will NEVER EVER purchase anything with the Shifman name on it nor will I buy another item from my local Stickley store. read more

We have owned a Shifman mattress and box spring for 7 years. For about the last 2 years, we have been battling serious depressions in the mattress areas where our bodies lay. We have religiously flipped the mattress as recommended by the company, but it makes little difference. The depressions return in just a few days. We though we were buying a high-end mattress at the time of purchase but have been very disappointed with its performance in the end. Today, we went out and bought a Tempurpedic Foam mattress and are hoping for better results. Shifman did not generate a return customer with its product's performance. Bob B. read more

I have had my Shifman Michelangelo Mattress for about a month now. Brutally expensive, purchased at a Stickley store, no refunds, exchanges, etc.It is horrible, I think sleeping on the floor would be more comfortable. I have low back pain every day, never had back pain before this mattress. The sales rep from the furniture store has been sympathetic, and has told me there is an adjustment period (one month seems like it should be long enough), but there is nothing she can do. My fault, I should have asked about the return policy on such a $$$$ purchase. The Shifman rep was rude on the phone, said there was nothing they can do, contact the store. Horrible experience, I will be shopping for a new mattress and this $6k piece of junk will be going to my basement. read more

I am extremely disappointed with the performance of our Shifman mattress but even more disappointed with their customer service. We purchased a king pillow top mattress 20 months ago. Within a few months, large depressions began to form on each side of the bed. I called the store and was told to turn it more frequently than the once per month recommended by the manufacturer. I followed instructions and the depressions worsened. It felt as if we were sleeping in a trough with hills on either side! I contacted Shifman and received no response. I then contacted the store where we purchased the bed. They sent out a representative as well as the Shifman rep. The Shifman rep told us this was normal and we should turn the bed 90 degrees and sleep on the short axis for a month or so until the middle of the bed compresses. He never touched the bed or took any measurements to judge the depth of the depressions. Bottom line.....they will do nothing to correct the situation. Shifman has a 10 year non-prorated warranty but, clearly, they don't stand by their product. My only hope, at this point, is that the furniture store has a higher ethical standard and will make this right. Lesson learned- price is not a predictor of quality. read more

I purchased the Shifman soft cloud, queen mattress and box springs (roughly 2 yrs now). It was nothing but trouble from the start. The customer service at the Shifman website was useless and of no help at all. The first mattress the Cabot Furniture Company sent me felt like it was a box spring labeled as a mattress ! Then they 'upgraded' the mattress, not comfortable at all, nothing like what I tested in the store. Then they messed up the box spring order, gave me substitutes, which were lousy, finally the Shifman box springs came and they have this terrible "smell" coming from the wooden slats, it's awful. Despite this, I followed their instructions to the letter, turning and rotating the mattress on a schedule that they included at delivery (the mattress would also pick up that smell from the box springs each time I flipped it over). Well, the mattress feels to be sinking in the center, it is NOT a "soft cloud" by any means. I've tried to get toppers to remedy the problem but they simply don't help. For such a HUGE price tag on this mattress system, I am extremely disappointed and in constant pain from this lousy mattress. Once you get a mattress, it seems, you are just stuck, they got their money and they don't care about you as a customer afterward. It is just disgusting how people are constantly getting ripped off by the mattress industry. I expected Shifman to be the exception and provide outstanding customer service, that is why I went with THEM, but no......not the case. Very very disappointed, and who has the huge money to keep buying new mattresses ???? read more
