Volt is a wonderful server at an extraordinary restaurant. If you've never tried a hot pot restaurant, the time is now. Shikku Hot Pot's food is extraordinary; a panoply of colors, aromas, textures and spices. Everything is fresh and cooking before you. If you've never tried hot pot and need a little more information or want the best service in Massachusetts, ask for Volt. Also worth noting is that this place is modern, immaculate, and sparkling clean. This was just what I needed after my disastrous last meal at an unnamed metal-tabled fifth-rich restaurant named after a smoked jalapeño but whose name I will not disclose.

This is a place that is best appreciated by a mid-sized group of adults--3-6 people. Hot Pot is a social activity and smaller groups will likely spend an equivalent amount to achieve the same flavors as would naturally occur in a larger group.

This place is top level. Usually we go to Quincy or Chinatown for Hot Pot. It is so great to have such awesome place nearby! The food is incredible - for vegetarians, the options are plentiful. And the drinks...the drama in the presentation of the Lemon drop and its elevated taste profile are like nothing I've ever had. This place is a must go!

For dinner, on Patty's suggestion I tried a mix of two of their hot pot broths available, Thai Tom Yum and red curry with lemon grass, red chiles, and ginger.

When we went inside, there was only one other party there and no music, so just whispers and the sounds of utensils against plates. There are about 4-5 booths and 1-2 regular tables to choose from. Since l am not familiar with Sichuan cuisine, I had Al help me choose my dishes. I went with the dumplings in chili sauce, fried rice, eggplant in garlic sauce, and chongquin chicken. While we waited, we were given water. The dishes came out at different times. They first served us the dumplings which were really good. The sauce they were in did have some chili sauce, but it was mostly like a sweet soy sauce and really tasty. It came with about 6 dumplings with a perfectly cooked wrapper and filled with flavorful pork - simple but delicious. Next was the eggplant. I was expecting a heavy garlic presence, but it was more like a sweet and sour sauce. The eggplant was very tender, but really hot so we had to wait to let it cool down a bit. The rice came after. I honestly think this was one of my favorite dishes since it was perfectly cooked, great flavor, and good portion. Lastly, the chicken came out. There was a large pile of chicken, but half of it was peppers. The chicken was cut into little bite sized pieces, each fried perfectly. Some pieces were more tongue numbing than others but it was nothing aggressive; very gentle and comfortable numb. I would have liked if there were music, but the no music was fine too; an escape from chaotic reality. Our total was around $50, which wasn't bad for the amount of food we got. I would come back to try other items.

I have never had a bad meal here, and I always try to be adventurous and try something new each time. With that being said, I always get an order of the Chongqing diced chicken. It is one of my fave dishes of all time (be warned, it is SPICY. Not for the faint of heart). The sauteed pig intestine with chili is another fave of mine. The dining area is spacious and cute, and the staff here is always incredibly nice and knowledgeable. Very helpful when there is a lot of dishes you might not be familiar with ! At the time of this posting, the menu here was very limited with a few Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese selections including noodle dishes, rice bowls, fried rice, soup, fried appetizers, pupu platter, and cold drinks. The menu plans to be expanded including combination platters. I stopped by The White Lotus very recently for takeout after placing an online order via Clover. My order was ready within 10 minutes. I ordered the Cambodian Beef Lok Lak Rice Bowl ($15.99 plus tax) and a small order of Pork/Shrimp Egg Rolls (4 for $4,99 plus tax). The Cambodian Beef Lok Lak Rice Bowl had tender grilled pieces of marinated beef steak, lettuce, tomato, cucumbers, lime & black pepper sauce over soft white rice. This bowl was a great choice and the beef had nice flavors. The 4 egg rolls were actually like spring rolls, very crispy with shredded cabbage, carrot, ground pork/shrimp, very greasy though. I would return here when the menu is expanded and more combination platters besides appetizer platters are offered.

The service was great and our server was amazing. The ambiance was a little bar feeling with lots of wood tables which I liked. Now let's get to the food.. However, the food itself wasn't spectacularly special for me to grant the fifth star. There was a good amount of fat on the pork belly, and I wasn't really a fan of the wavy noodles. It's like cheap noodles in what should be a premium dish. The flavored sodas (N/A alternatives) were a great find and a decent value on the menu.
