Table of broth, proteins, veggies, and fungi.

This is a place that is best appreciated by a mid-sized group of adults--3-6 people. Hot Pot is a social activity and smaller groups will likely spend an equivalent amount to achieve the same flavors as would naturally occur in a larger group.

Vegetarian soup dumplings

This place is top level. Usually we go to Quincy or Chinatown for Hot Pot. It is so great to have such awesome place nearby! The food is incredible - for vegetarians, the options are plentiful. And the drinks...the drama in the presentation of the Lemon drop and its elevated taste profile are like nothing I've ever had. This place is a must go!

Szechuan Beef Tallow broth with pork belly, rice cakes, broccoli, bean sprouts, and shiitake mushrooms.

Had a fantastic time trying out Shikku this weekend with my dad. We were greeted and sat quickly. Our server was amazing and gave a run down of the experience and the menu. The food came out quickly and was delicious. I had the Szechuan Beef Tallow broth and will definitely get it again in the future. Love the aesthetic and decor. I will definitely be going again in the future.

Restaurant was clean and nice but broth was too salty and greasy. Portion was just right.

For dinner, on Patty's suggestion I tried a mix of two of their hot pot broths available, Thai Tom Yum and red curry with lemon grass, red chiles, and ginger.

The thing I've always liked about LaMei is that they always have fresh options. For AYCE the portions are pretty good. I wasn't expecting to get as much as I did for an order, so something to think about when placing orders. Sometimes you might get a couple of lonely mushrooms or 3 green leaves for a serving of Bok Choy. That was not the case here. The fish and meats were fresh and if you opt for the VIP option, there are appetizers included to nibble on while you cook your other stuff. You also get some more premium options and the hand pulled noodles had a nice chew to them. The service was good. They were efficient with cleaning plates as we used them and the food came out quickly. The sauce station has all the staples you'd expect to assemble your sauce. The AYCE option makes things a bit more affordable, but even if you don't use it, the fresh food will make it worthwhile.

The quality is above average, something I've had a hard time finding recently with AYCE establishments. Service is great. Our waitress was very attentive and made sure we got all our rounds in, even though we were dining close to closing. I didn't feel rushed out whatsoever and appreciated how the portions are reasonably sized. They don't overcrowd the table and make you more mindful of how much you'll order next. The individual pots are a huge plus for me. Everyone gets their own broth to cook whatever they want within close reach. The DIY sauce bar is only icing on the cake! Shabu will fill you up, especially on a cozy winter night. If you're looking for the best season to try, though I'd argue shabu always hits year round, take this cold RI winter to give this place a go.

Hotpot One is a very pleasant, mid-priced AYCE hot pot restaurant. It features a very large and…read morewell stocked veggy bar, where you can go up and fill your own plate with some of 50-70 non-meat items. Actually, besides veggies, you can also get meat balls and small sausages, as well as stuff like Inoki mushrooms, "cloud ear" fungus, etc. The selection is pretty big, Then there is a sauce bar where you make your own hotpot dipping sauce. From the menu, you can order all the meats you want. They pretty much have all the items you would expect from a Chinese hotpot restaurant in the Boston or Quincy area. The meats you order come fast, and you can cook them up in your personal sized hotpot. Between the quick service for the meats and your own ability to refill with any veggies you want, you are almost always eating, and you spend almost no time waiting,. All veggies and meats were well presented, fresh, and tasty. Of interest, this restaurant uses robot waiters to help the human ones. So while you are waiting for the meats you ordered, you will often find a robot cart silently rolling up to your table. As soon as this happens, a waitress will quickly appear next to the robot and hand-carry all your plates of meats from the cart to your table.. This is super useful because sometimes the robot cart will be carrying 15-20 dishes, far more than a single waiter or waitress can carry. So this isn't just a gimmick, but a useful tool that speeds up service. I've gone to Hotpot One a total of 3 times, and my dining experience has been consistent and good. I would consider it one of the better places in the Quincy area to have a nice AYCE hotpot dinner,.
