Excellent Sales, Poor Workmanship, Ignored by the Company…read more I found AZ Shade Masters at a recent home show and was impressed with their presentation, product, and information about pergola options. I obtained bids from four firms and AZ Shade Masters provided a detailed and competitive bid for my planned 4K Aluminum pergola. Unfortunately, the installation is where things went sideways, and AZ Shade Masters ignored my concerns: 1. White caulk on the roof is visible from ground level - The installer advised "I" can fix this by painting the caulk with matching spray paint, but it may take several coats. 2. Closer inspection with a ladder revealed caulk haphazardly applied with drips left wherever they fell. 3. Frame beams were cut too short, and gaps are filled with wide beads of painted caulk. 4. Metal shavings were left in the rain gutter along with a metal scrap cut to allow water drainage. 5. Gussets of unequal length were accidentally installed requiring the correctly sized shorter gusset to be replaced to match the longer to avoid leaving exposed holes in the posts. The installers had the design plan in hand but suggested they could install my pergola however I wanted. I stressed several times they should follow the plan and was forced to correct them when they attempted to deviate (for example: eliminating gussets when they were to be included and sloping the frame beams instead of installing them level). One even suggested I was "OCD" for insisting they follow the plan. (I DID accept one of their suggestions and shortened the pergola height by six inches which was a solid recommendation). After discovering the caulk issues, I texted photos to both my salesman and the company manager. I also left voicemails and a message with the showroom. I connected with the salesman who advised some aspects of the caulking are "normal" but not all and he deferred to his manager for any remediation. I have heard nothing since from AZ Shade Masters. While the crew was personable, installation quality leaves much to be desired (the photos speak for themselves). I should note the installers have the customer sign a form that there are no concerns after installation is complete. I signed as I was largely satisfied and the pergola looks good at first glance, but closer inspection reveals issues not apparent from ground level. These issues combined with the lack of response from the company prevent me from recommending AZ Shade Masters.

They were scheduled out a few weeks and explained this during the quote process to set expectations. Follow up between contract and service was quick and easy via email and straight to the point. Day of work was quick and easy. The crew was very friendly and explained the process time frame and when questions about how I wanted specific items to look they quickly asked. I was very happy with the overall process and experience from start to end! Real test is on the next rain we get but with a very long warrantee don't expect issues.

While this provides us with spectacular views, it made it virtually impossible to enjoy our backyard for the hottest months of the year. We knew we needed to find a durable shade solution and our search culminated in a phone call to Patio Partners, in Surprise. We scheduled a consultation with Jim Doyle, who came out and helped us imagine what type of structure would work best for our home. We received a fair proposal, which was less than other companies who never bothered to drive out to Sun City Festival. Rather, they quoted off the size I said I wanted and a copy of our plot plan. We entered into an agreement with Patio Partners, and they began the permitting process with the city of Buckeye. Another thing you can say about living in Arizona is the wind is one of your constant companions. To ensure that any structure doesn't get blown away, code requires you to dig massive footings for each post that will support the structure. Our patio cover is fifty-five feet wide and extends from our house from eleven feet to twenty-one feet with a span of over thirty feet between the two furthest posts. The crew from Patio Partners had to dig six of these footings around our existing hardscape. They managed to do this without harming any of our plants or the Travertine border around our yard because they dug these footings by hand. The pergola went up in a couple of days after the footings were poured and it looks spectacular. The quality of the materials and craftsmanship are five-star (like this review) because they have great people who take pride in what they do. My wife and I highly recommend this company and encourage you to give them a call if you need any shade solutions.

They had someone go out and give me an estimate and I was told they could get to it on a certain day, that day came and went with no phone call. I called the following day to find out when they were going to get out for the repair. The woman who answered the phone said she had no idea. NO IDEA? What? There is no communication between the front, the workers and the customer, whatsoever. A little back story, when they had previously worked on my parents awning, they put in the wrong size of screws. So it had been going on for years, screws falling out but my Dad would just screw them back in. They would work their way out again, which was a constant thing but it had been too long since they did the work for my Dad to bring it to their attention. (I didnt live in AZ in 2021 so I had no idea this was happening almost weekly). When they came to do an estimate, they admitted that they put in the wrong size screws 5 years earlier. Now it's time for them to do the actual work.And then they don't show up, then they say it's going to be a another week before they can get to it. I wasnt happy about that but was going to take that appointment anyway, he interrupted and said " you know what, to make it easier on everybody I suggest you go find someone else"! They didn't want to deal with my issue and that they're really not making any money off of my small job, just go somewhere else. In the meantime, its been 2 weeks of waiting for them to show up, now I have to start the whole process over. Needless to say, I was shocked that a company would tell me to go somewhere else because they didn't make enough money on my job or want to deal with the situation, but in midsentence of trying to respond, he hung up on me! Mesa Awning does not stand behind their work. Word-of-mouth can be the best advertising and/or the worst advertising. I would never go to this company ever again and I will tell everyone I know not to use Mesa Awning. I looked at some other reviews and apparently the communication hasn't gotten better in 5 years. Also they dont clean up after themselves which is a big turn-off for anyone. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere for your awning needs!
