We love our east valley home but our backyard was in the full Arizona sun all day preventing us from fully utilizing the patio or pool. Any amount of landscaping would only partially shade the yard and not the area we used most. We did try a couple of gazebo style canopies from Amazon and a very large off-set umbrella from a local store but they both collapsed during wind/dust storms (the umbrella almost immediately and the canopies the second year). We needed to invest in something more permanent that would stand up to our crazy wind storms and the unrelenting sun. We called the Outside Shade Company who quickly provided us with recommendations and a quote for two sails. We made a couple changes (two additional sails) which the Outside Shade Company happily added for us without complaint and at a discount. In the end, they installed four shade sails, three over the pool and pool decks and one small rectangle to shade our covered patio from the morning sun. The poles are sturdy steal with welded rings cemented into the ground and are painted to match the house. The sails are a quality mesh-like material that provides shade and protection from the harmful UV rays without interfering with our enjoyment of the Arizona sky. The complete job took a little longer than expected due to the busy summer season but were installed just in time for peak swimming weather and well worth the wait. We had a minor installation hiccup (because we have shutters and they aren't used to installing the spears into the shutter itself) but the final result is GORGEOUS. Phoenix tent an Awning is a great company an I have watched it for many years. I had a few dollars last year so I called them. Their salesman came out got me all set up an I was happy. The salesman said that my Awning had to be 25 ft from the center of street. 2 days ago I got a letter from the CITY OF PHOENIX. They said the structure had to be back 45 ft. I wasn't really sure what we wanted done on the side of our house that gets beat-up by the sun late in the day (faces south west), heating up our bedroom and water closet, almost unbearably, every summer. I knew that we needed to block the sun as best we could, but shade sails would be risky, as we live up against Lookout Mountain and get some very violent monsoon storms as a result. Our Salesman, Simon, was spot-on with regard to the appointment time, analyzed the issue by actually listening to me, and came up with a great solution - spanning an awning the length of the SW-facing wall (see photo). This extends the amount of time that wall gets shade each day, as well as the glass-block window on the water closet. We also wanted a roll-down shade that protects the hot tub we have on that side patio. Simon measured, provided a suggested solution and an estimate for both items, all in under an hour. The only thing I wanted to wait on was picking a fabric color with my wife that evening, which we did. The following day, I provided our color choice and ok to proceed to Simon. He gave me a time estimate for install of 8 weeks (this was in April when things get really busy), and he said that they would be back in a few weeks to do final, exact measurements, and provide any schedule adjustments if necessary. Well, they came back to measure in 3 weeks, and delivered and installed the roll-down shade and awning in 8 weeks. We think that it looks fantastic and has actually helped with keeping the master bedroom and bathroom quite a bit cooler. Phoenix Tent and Awning went above and beyond to transform the look of my home! From start to completion and even then some, working with their team has been an enjoyable experience. Once I decided on a style and fabric, schedule was flexible to accommodate my ever-changing needs. I was simultaneously working around my painters schedule, my schedule and the awning installers schedule and they were so kind to patiently await until the starts aligned to get the awnings up. We get SO many compliments on our new awnings! Finally, after a few months of having them, I realized that because we do not have gutters, any time it rained, the dirt from my roof was running down the awnings and staining the white trim I chose. While I was able to hand clean it every time, I thought there has to be a better way! I called PT&A and they offered to remove the fabric and swap out the braid to a darker color at no additional cost to me. Now THAT is customer service! Ten o'clock came and went. No one showed up and no one called. I called the office. They said some people did not show up for work. I lost a drive way canopy awning in a monsoon in the summer of 2014, not having the money at the time to repair it I let it sit for the better of a year. I got a couple of quotes over the phone from several awing companies in town and went with Phoenix Tent and Awing based on the recommendation of a RV service manager at Little Dealer Little Prices in Mesa (that story is another review but basically they subcontracted all of their canvas work the Phoenix Tent and Awing and I like what I saw that day at Little Dealer). I called the main number, the sales person took down my info and said someone would be at my house the next day. Sure enough the next day I get a email with a full quote with instructions in the email to call and put a down payment if I wanted to proceed. I put the down payment down over the phone and sent in a signed copy of the quote over email. The only hitch, that was in May and by the middle of June I hadn't seen anything with a new canopy, I called Phoenix Tent and Awing and the person on the phone started researching. Within a hour I got a call from the manager apologizing and scheduling me for a install as soon as they verified they had the material in stock. The install day came and sure enough the crew showed up and when they left I had a recovered driveway. We required a very unusual awning for our back patio area. The structure of the patio was involved in addition to the block wall that ended in a curve. We also needed a very large sun shade on the opposite side of the patio structure. The very informative/knowledgeable representative showed up exactly on time. This is especially sad bc I was looking for an opportunity to rate another awning company but they don't show up on YELP. Phx tent and awning did, so since I made a serious attempt to do business with THEM, I figured "Why not rate PHX Tent and Awning while I'm at it!?" I made an appointment with the representative that manned the phone bank (the name doesn't matter anymore) and found it would take two weeks before they "Simon" could come out. No problem, so we scheduled a meeting for an estimate. They even called the day before to confirm. We got onto a situation where my Husband who has had three eye surgeries was experiencing a detached retina and it was very near the time Simon was scheduled to arrive, so we waited to see the Surgeon. At the point in time where Simon was now 20 min late, I called. Turns out there isn't an appointment on the books and when I asked if they did or did NOT have a Simon working there, he transferred me to another operator. She was the one who originally made the appointment two weeks prior and PURPOSELY noted that they were a company that had been in business for over 110 years and that "SIMON" would be out. When I pressed her memory, she did indeed remember but somehow Simon had ended up in the Hospital and even though I SUPPOSEDLY "canceled" the appointment "Vince" had somehow entered the picture. No Vince here! OK. I give. The whole detached retina emergency FAR outweighs any chance that I'll ever see Vince or Simon or anyone else, so I ended up scheduling my time and waiting the day away for a 1:30 appointment with a 110 yo company that never bothered to show up or call. During a big storm at the lake, my Bimini top was torn. I thought I was going to need to buy a new one. I took it into Phoenix Tent and Awning.
