I have been to this bar many times over the years. Great place to watch sports, especially the Steelers. Sadly, the last time I went, I wanted to specifically see the Steelers and enjoy a cool adult beverage. Most of the main tables were full, so we grabbed a table a little farther from the bar. My husband went to the bar to order and waited, and waited...The bartender was more interested in his cell phone than paying attention to his customers. While I sat, a young woman came to clean up the table, never made eye contact with me or asked if I wanted anything. I may try it again, but was very disappointed. You know, when you have an experience in your head that doesn't come true, it throws a shade. read more

Really 3.5 stars.... I've soured on shiner beers lately but they have em all as well as some other good ones like Firemans 4. Food is super awesome. They haves some wicked specials I recall. Atmosphere is really fun. Like the others say, it's upstairs and the entrance is almost hidden. Cool cowhide stools and funky texas type decorationson the walls. I've been several times during the week for happy hour and found it un-crowded and just a great place to meet friends. I recently went on the weekend to see a show and experience was still pretty good. Obviously more crowded, but not a obnoxious crowd....a little bit older maybe late twenties and early thirties I wish they had flights. It makes perfect sense for a place that serves so many shiner varieties. Solid score for the bartenders. They have a really nice beer selection and an even better whiskey selection. Shiner's Saloon off Congress Ave is a real Texan hangout. A variety of mixed drinks and coooooold Shiner bruskis on tap make this place a favorite for anyone who grew up around Shiner beer. I hear they have a few band showcases as well. Be sure to add this one to your next bar crawl! read more

We went for dollar whiskey Wednesday, which sounds like an awesomely bad idea, but it's actually just awesome. They have one whiskey, made by the same folks who make Maker's Mark, that goes for a dollar a shot--it's not bad! I can't really speak to the food or the live music, but the atmosphere was nice, the bar staff were friendly, and it seems like the music scene there is good and varied. read more

I can not say enough positive things about this place. Easily one of my favorite bars in Austin. Why do I frequently visit? First - It's a Shiner lover's heaven. They have just about every Shiner standard beer and seasonals on tap, a great whiskey selection, and usually have some killer drink specials going on! Second - The bartenders are always super cool and nice. Ask for Kupcake or B-Dub! I always enjoy our conversations and they have great recommendations. Great guys. Third - This place has some of the best tasting food you could ever put in your mouth. The sliders are mouthwatering and the nachos are ridiculous!! Kitchen open till 2am is a huge plus! Fourth - They also have some rocking live music going on. I've had a few great times listening to Mike V and the Lonestar Rejects Fifth - KCCO! I've seen Chivers here at times. While I'm not a Chiver myself, I appreciate their belief in good will and positive attitude. As a bar, it's just ok, though the faux-saloon vibe is a nice contrast in style to the slicker nightclubs in the same building (Prague, The Marq, and The Lanai). I am never disappointed when I go to Shiner's Saloon, whether it's for a brew, food or music (best with all three). The staff are friendly, and serve up a good selection of (you guessed it) Shiner Beer variants on tap. Large comfortable leather furniture makes this a great place to relax. The food is all very good and house made. Not to mention, the kitchen is open until 2am! They often have live country music, and sometimes there are people dancing. Two specials to note are $1 sliders on Sunday and $1 well whiskey every Wednesday. Definitely check this place out. read more

On a visit to Austin (our first) we luckily found ourselves bellied up at the Shiner's Saloon. We loved it!! The staff was very friendly and more than willing to answer questions we had about the bar and general area. The atmosphere was great. The band that was playing was so good, my hubby actually wanted to buy their CD. They didn't have one. I would highly recommend this place. Before I write a review, I like to read a few just to see what I should address. I almost died laughing when I read about the "Creepy Colonel Sanders" statue. How do you not recognize Jack Daniels? His name is on the bottom of the statue. To the girl who supposedly reads lips, at least the bartender waited to walk away before allegedly insulting you (which you probably deserved for being an insufferable bitch). Shoutout to the birthday party getting kicked out for using flash on their camera. That's the most bullshit story I've ever heard. Now on to my review. Let's start with the food. The food is good when you're sober (I suggest getting queso with the pepperoni rolls) and out-fucking-standing after a few drinks. Now on to the booze.. The whiskey selection is on point, even though they still can't score a bottle of Pappy, but not many people can so I don't blame them for that one. The vodka selection is vast, especially for a country bar. Tequila and rum collection are pretty good. Gin choices are somewhat limited, but that's for girly men anyways. Then there's beer. You want it, they got it. All the Shiner beers ON TAP! Plus some more delicious beers. They've got a patio for smoking or just being outside in general. The staff is amazing. The cooks crank out food rather quickly for being in such a confined space, the bartenders know how to pour a drink that fits your palette, and the door guys are quick to give you information or direction about just about anything close by. Hosted a party for about 90 people here last week (June '17) mostly in the rooftop bar. Manager Dave was super easy to work with while coordinating and the bar staff was great the night of. I had a large group of Japanese visitors intermingled and all things Texas are exciting to them, so this was the perfect place to be. Pros: City view from the rooftop bar. Lots of simple fun games to play (big Jenga, connect four, etc). Good beer selection, like 120 whiskies available and a kitchen that is open late with good food. Prices were really good too. Cons: Fans on the rooftop would make it a little more comfortable during the Texas summer nights. If they were there, I didn't notice. Damn buildings in the way of a nice Capitol view up Congress. Thanks Shiner's Saloon for the memorable evening for my guests. When I'm back in Austin I'll be back to tip one up. read more

I think it's a great little bar to hang out listen to some local bands or singers perform. The staff is quick and friendly and the food is actually really good. Had the kolaches and they were hot fresh and just what my alcohol induced self needed. I wouldn't hang all night here but it's not a bad place to rest your feet and relax a bit. read more
