(I say this sadly because I live a few blocks from this store and it is super convenient for me to get all my pet supplies and food here). Being a lovely day outside, I decided to "walk" my senior dog around the 'hood. I use the term "walk" loosely because my dog is so old and can't really walk; rather, I use a doggie stroller to get her outside to get some fresh air. I had visited this store earlier in the week to get a big bag of dog food and some specialty doggie treats, but I spoke to a nice guy there at the time (I think he was the store manager), and I decided to return today, as they offer a discount to seniors on the last Thursday of every month. (I unfortunately qualify for said discount!). As I entered the store today, with my dog in the stroller and all, I saw that the knowledgeable and nice guy from earlier in the week was not there. Instead there was this employee who literally did not know what day it was (he was unsure when I said that today is Thursday, the day they offer a discount to seniors. He hemmed and hawed and had to check the calendar before agreeing with me). At this point, I realized I did not bring my credit or debit cards with me, but I had them all in a locked file on my phone, and of course I know all the PIN numbers. I asked this guy if I could pay for purchases by showing him my card on my phone and he could manually punch in the numbers, and I could provide the PIN. Oh no, he said, they need the actual card for purchases to be made. No way could I make a purchase without the physical cards on me. Yelp readers, I ask you, how it is possible for this store to be able to allow customers to call in orders for delivery and pay over the phone by providing one's credit card info over the phone but NOT be able to pay in person by providing the same credit card info to the employee at the store? I ask because, in the past, on three occasions, the manager here has given me a card and told me I could call the store and order my dog's food and whatever else, pay over the phone and they would deliver to my condo. So if I'm not physically there in person to pay, but they accept payment over the phone, why wouldn't they accept payment from me today when I had all my payment information on me? I just don't get it. To make matters worse, not only did I leave without my intended purchases, but the guy saw me struggling to get out the door with my dog in the stroller (the doors here are not automated) and not once did he offer to hold the door or help in any way. And, no, there were no other customers there. I am done with this place. Other Bosley stores are much better, but this one has some of the worst customer service I've encountered in any store in Vancouver.

The one working the till was unbelievably rude and kept rolling her eyes and acting like she is doing me some kind of a favor. Don't like your job? Quit and go get a different job instead of making the business lose valuable customers. I did not ask her to do anything other than scan my purchase so that I can pay and leave as fast as I can.

Having said that, Van Pet is easily one of my favourite pet stores out there and we make the trip whenever it's a non-emergent need (food, for example). It's unpretentious, fully stocked, and the staff is always knowledgeable. For example, being pretty knowledgeable myself about what I'm feeding my dog, I've had many a conversation about dog food with staff at various stores. I always find Van Pets to be balanced and helpful, and they aren't always just trying to sell me the most expensive thing. They usually stock us up with samples to try to help us make the right decisions. It's very much appreciated. It's taken me a year to write this review. It wasn't until today after a visit that I realized that every single time I've been in this store, I've left happy and wowed by the customer service. It's absolutely warranting of a review and even more, a five star one.

The prices appear to be the same as other Bosley's locations. The staff are so friendly when we visit, in spite of the fact that we're not really there to purchase anything (occasionally I do find a treat or toy or other necessity, but in general we just "visit"). They are kind enough to always hold the door for the stroller, and always greet us with genuinely friendly tones. There were 3 staff in the store - one was in training - and they were all very helpful and pleasant. They signed us up quickly and didn't make a fuss about it being late for our appointment. They gave us a big bag of treats for the pup, checking in about allergies just in case, before handing it over, and gave us a thorough tour of the washing station before leaving us to get on with the job. There were several choices of shampoos and conditioners; professional grooming restraint system; copious amounts of microfiber towels; an air dryer; and even an apron for me. Getting the pup in and out was easy peasy with the aid of a little staircase. There was no rush, even though on weekends you do need an appointment. During the week you don't. Cost is only $12 plus tax. Totally worth it.

You can buy their products direct from their site, or locally at any number of pet stores. Their rain jackets- get the lined ones- come in every size from Chihuahua to Great Dane, and tons and tons of cute colors. Everything's totally washable and the design is very smart for quick easy on-and-off, but not flimsy at all ... my pup likes to strip in public but she can't break out of a Teckelklub jacket. I highly recommend their lined Trench jacket- she stays dry and thus she hates the rainy days a little bit less.

I have also done some price comparisons and found out that it is a better deal to purchase pet food here than other chain pet stores. They also have a rewards program that gives back 3% of your purchases (I think it's 3%). If you can't find what you're looking for, they can order it and they will give you a call when your order is ready for pick up.
