    The UPS Store

Complaint: unprofessional, unqualified notary services…read more Result: Because of the multiple inconveniences and dishonesty, we are submitting our experience to UPS corporate and the State Department for Notary Licensing. (If you want details) Story: Our party is temporarily in Connecticut to take care of a family estate. We needed a notary for some power of attorney paperwork and have always appreciated UPS fast, convenient services around the country. We called the day before to ask about notary, they told us the hours of availability, and we came at the appropriate time. Of our party of five, we have the elderly person in question, the family member who is a notary for another state but not licensed in Conn, and two other family members who requested off from work to witness, and an ASL interpreter for one of the participants. (Emphasizing, effort went into this appointment) When we asked for notary services, a man came out of the back of the store, told us that his license was limited and he could not do power of attorney documents, recommended banks or town halls (it's a Saturday) l, and then disappeared again to the back of the store. Here are the problems. 1) The papers were printed and made ready for Southington, and any other place we could find required the paperwork to be reprinted for the individual area. 2) None of us had ever heard of this problem so we spent the next 30 minutes on our phones and calling family members who were notaries to find out that there is no such thing as a limited notary license. Conn Law: the notary has the right to refuse service for reasonable things, but it is misconduct to lie about your licensure. Furthermore I think everyone can agree that it's just bad practice. We agreed that even though we had caught the lie, this is not a person we would want to work with anyway. The part we don't understand is why he lied to avoid notarizing our power of attorney paperwork. 1)He did have an extremely thick, almost unintelligible accent, so maybe his understanding of written English isn't proficient enough to properly manage a document like this (in which his licensure needs to be removed). 2)Maybe he didn't want to deal with notarizing that day. 3)Perhaps he was intimidated by the presence of ASL and an interpreter and decided that our business wasn't worth the confusion. 4)Even more concerning, we were informed that this notary is actually the owner of the store, and perhaps gained the licensure as a ways to be compliant with UPS office standards, but not actually offer the service. While this is all speculation, it doesn't erase the fact that this inconvenience means a lot more work for us, reprinting paperwork, finding a different notary, hiring the interpreter again, and bringing together family members from 4 different parts of Connecticut at the same time another date. We went to a different UPS later that day to consult with the notary there, who confirmed that his answer was not correct and helped us submit a complaint to UPS corporate. They also made an appointment with us next week, so hopefully this can all be sorted out smoothly, albeit delayed.

Absolutely one of the worst companies there is. First, it's very important note that I was a…read morerestoration project manager for over a decade working for some of the largest restoration companies in the state of Connecticut. I've seen it all and I've heard it all. We only used this company because when we had a claim, we allowed the insurance company, State farm to choose the mitigation company as I didn't want any accusations of bias or unethical anything since, as I said, I was in the Insurance restoration business for over a decade. This company came out, the team lead they sent was as lazy as you could be, literally was standing in the water(which was sewage) then decided to sit on our brand new white couch. He talked to my wife about firearms and how he carries a firearm, then the next day as they were cleaning out our basement they came across a box that had a fake gun in it, a gun we use for a smokeless shooting range. He decided to freak out and no coincidence at 3:30 the whole entire team took off left everything unsecured, left our gate wide open and our doors wide open. Then the excuse they gave was that they didn't like how they were talked to. We had simply went down and asked them to take a beat for a minute because they were just thrown everything in the dumpster with zero accountability for it all so obviously we were a little nervous that insurance wasn't gonna cover it since they weren't documenting properly. Even things that we said don't throw away we noticed we're getting thrown in the dumpster so of course we were gonna stop them for a minute, again we know how the industry works. They damaged our fridge, we had to contact the owner of their company to get a replacement. It took probably three weeks of back-and-forth to finally get a fridge replaced that was essentially brand new. No shocker when it came to the contents portion of our claim they couldn't provide a full, comprehensive list of all items thrown out, saved or cleaned. Even our adjusted had a nightmare of a time trying to get photos from them or a proper list, we still haven't to this day. When it came to get our contents back, that was a nightmare in and of itself, the couch came back damaged. The owner of the company wanted to make accusations and not cover it. We finally just gave up it wasn't worth going back-and-forth, with her knowing her personality and how she is this company charged our insurance over $17,000 for the mitigation job and content manipulation. They were here for maybe a total of three days and stored our stuff for about three months. Their mitigation manager didn't do his job properly. They never came out to check the hours on the machine, run the numbers daily as you're supposed to do with mitigation instead, he would call me everyday and have me go down into my basement to use my moisture meter to check the numbers and check his machines for the hours and send him pictures. I have the pictures back it all up too, yet they charged the insurance company for supervision and the mitigation, despite the fact that he was calling me every day to check his equipment this is something any good mitigation company should be doing daily. Getting back to the contents when they finally brought them back, we were going through boxes and they'd have huge boxes with two items in it or boxes with stuff just thrown in it See The pictures I've attached to this review. This company is absolute hacks and I wouldn't recommend them to anybody. They could have a fire extinguisher while my house is burning down and I would let the house burn down before I let them use the fire extinguisher to put the fire out. When I say DONT use this company, I mean it RUN from them. I've been in the construction industry for over twenty years, this companies lacks integrity, professionalism and proper leadership.
