If you are looking for a mechanic shop, I would NOT recommend going to Shipley Automotive. As most of you know, I took my car into their shop to get my A/C fixed on Tuesday June 29th with ZERO other issues besides my A/C. We received no calls the first day (actually only received maybe 3-4 calls the entire duration), so we called on Wednesday asking for an ETA and they said they hadn't gotten to my vehicle yet. We call again the next day (Thursday) and were told that Wednesday they had tried fixing the air, it stalled, so they were testing wires and my car no longer started. They were unable to give us a reason why. Friday they notified us that they had "fried" my cars computer. I had insistently asked for a manager to call or to have them send it to Honda in order to get it fixed by a certified tech (asking they pay for it to be fixed as it was a mistake on their part). I finally received a call (the only one) from the owner on Tuesday the 1st, from a private number with no way to get ahold of him again, and he said you let us fix the vehicle or we can send it to Honda but we're only giving you (this much money) and if they find other issues then you're on your own. No sincere apologies, no sympathy for the appointments I had to miss, or the fact that I was out a car for what would be 3 weeks. There was no offer of a loaner car or anything similar, just them paying for their mistake and fixing my air. They ended up sending the ECU to California to be fixed, which for a whole week they hadn't heard anything from them. During that week we would call for updates and keep asking for the owner to provide us some type of transportation for me and my one year old daughter. The technicians told us each time that they had told the owner and all he responded with was "I'll get ahold of them" and he never once called us. The place in California ended up not having the proper equipment to work on my 2010 Honda Civic so they had to send it back to the shop, who then ended up sending my vehicle to Honda anyways. I want to say July 20th came around and a shop tech called us saying "the owner said he would let you use his extra work car to get around until yours is ready" which was a huge relief. Even though the car wasn't in ideal condition as a loaner seeing as the staff at the shop mentioned it's the car they use sometimes, we were still thankful to have some transportation. Had he offered this as an option immediately after knowing my car was disabled, that may have made this situation at least a bit better. Not even two days later on July 22nd, they had called saying my car was ready to be picked up (after Honda had it). I went to drop off the loaner and pick up my vehicle and the owner, who's spoken to us one time throughout this whole situation, walked by me without even introducing himself or offering an apology, as a matter of fact he didn't even look at me as I was getting my daughter out of *his* car. We had asked a tech to have the owner contact us to make things right, whether that be an actual apology or whatever else he saw fit-- which it has now been a week since we asked for that with no call received hence this experience being made public. The staff were kind and understanding throughout this whole debacle, but could only do so much for us. We all know mistakes happen and that's okay, BUT being professional and showing good customer service is just as important as the maintenance itself. So if you are considering taking your vehicle here, please be aware that the owner shows zero sympathy and does not seem to carry himself in a professional manner or just lacks all customer service aspects, even when his business makes a mistake and puts someone out for weeks. read more
