My partner and I have been ordering food from this restaurant, often3 - 4 times a week since it opened. We usually have the food delivered, but sometimes we pick it up. I have put off writing a review, but now I feel it's time. Our typical experience with this restaurant is as follows: They ALMOST ALWAYS get the order wrong. Again, ALMOST ALWAYS. We don't have large or complicated orders, though we do ask for extra salad dressing, extra onion, extra tomato, extra feta, or extra marinara sauce. These are all up-charges. We often don't get what we paid for. Once in a while they include plastic forks and knives with very thin, small, cheap napkins, but usually there are no utensils or napkins. The marinara sauce is sometimes very watery and flavorless. It's more like watered down juice. It's GROSS. With Greek salads they include only 1/4 of a piece pita bread. The olives have pits in them, so be careful!! And the packaging is often so sloppy that the food spills out of the containers, into the bag. By comparison, Village Pizza, which is almost across the street, includes an entire piece of Pita bread with a Greek salad, and there is so much feta that you never need to ask, (and pay for), extra. Their Greek salad is only 26 cents more than the one at Shirley Sub Shope's, and there are no pits in the olives. The pizzas are much more flavorful. There are two reasons that we have continued to do business with Shirley Sub Shope. First, they deliver. Second, they do have toasted ravoli on the menu. If only Village Pizza delivered!! I recommend that you go elsewhere. read more

I'm not sure what is happening over at Shirley Sub Shoppe. The past three times now we have ordered delivery here, we've received pizza made with stale bread and/or rubbery, overcooked cheese. I had also ordered subs, and they can not even get the orders right, due to their "printing machines being broken," or it being their "old menu," or whatever excuse is made up tonight. I will no longer be ordering from Shirley Sub Shoppe, and I encourage you to find better service. There are better options, like Pizza King. It's not for our lack of patience with ordering from this place. My first time to Shirley MA, I happened to be working next to Shirley Subs. It looked neat and clean from outside so I went in. I just wanted something quick and simple, so I asked for the bacon burger with lettuce and tomato. What I got was a Masterpiece. Maybe one of the best burgers I've ever had. The burger was cooked perfect and had great taste. The roll just put it over the top with the freshness and texture. What a perfect combination along with the fresh crisp lettuce and tomatoes. This place was amazing when it first opened. Delicious pizza! Then new management came in and it went downhill from there. Recently ordered a pizza for someone who is vegan and asked for just sauce, olives and spinach. They ended up putting sausage on it and couldn't remake it because they were out of spinach so I just said she'll pick it off and they STILL ended up charging me for the sausage. Received a menu in the mail and was excited to have another place that delivered to Harvard. Called to confirm that they definitely delivered to our town and upon putting me on hold, they said yes if we received the menu in the mail then they will deliver. Called back to put in our order in and again had to be put on hold to check and see if they would come out our way even though I told her that I already called to check. Enjoyed our food so much so that we tried to order delivery again from them a couple of weeks later only to have them tell us that they only deliver 5 miles out. Seems like they need to get their story straight. It's too bad since we would have ordered from them at least once a month. read more

We have lived in this area for over 30 years and have yet been able to find a Good Pizza. The sauce is wrong the crust is wrong it's undercooked and just terrible. Shirley sub shop sent out coupons a bunch of months back so we decided to try them. So glad we did! The sauce is awesome the crust is fantastic as well as the kind and the amount of cheese. Stopped here for lunch while passing through town and was immediately impressed. Very clean place and quite modern. Friendly staff, very accommodating for our family of 4. Burgers were cooked exactly as ordered and were of better quality than any sub/pizza place I've eaten at. Wings were cooked perfectly and not just the typical "Franks Red Hot" sauce you get everywhere else. Large menu with a lot of variety and the owner actually checked on us to make sure we were happy with our meal. When we went to clean up our plates to leave, he insisted that he would take care of everything for us. All in all a very unexpected but welcome surprise. I eat here probably twice a week! I got the steak tip dinner with the rice pilaf and a side salad, $15.05. I asked for a half a slice of pita bread They wanted to charge me $1.50 more! I was so pissed off...really $1.50! The person look confused at first as to what the price would be as if he pulled the amount out of the sky! Steak wasn't as good as the last time. It's important to make regular customers feel special I mean come on charging for slice of bread. I think I'll be taking a long break from ordering here! Counter staff usually very friendly Lisa has a great personality! But I understand they have rules!! Charge for everything! I worked in the service industry all my life, my family owned a pizza place for years. Also I had ordered the haddock dinner the week before and asked for garlic bread and they gave me a whole box of it as a side order even though it was their mistake I paid for it! I want to give this place a really great review. I honestly do, but I need to be honest about my overall experience. First of all, the food. The food was delicious, I got a cranberry chicken sandwich and it was toasty and crunchy when it arrived (I ordered delivery.). It reminded me of the sandwiches my mom used to make for me, which says a lot (memories of home cooking is the best.). But that is not what got this place 3 stars. It was the delivery driver. He was extremely rude when he handed me my receipt back after I signed for my meal. First saying "You forgot something." I assumed it was to write the total or I wrote on the wrong copy of the receipt, no.. It was asking I wrote the total down and handed it back did he look at it with a very disgruntled look but then had the nerve to look at me and speak with such an entitled attitude of "So where's my tip?" I know I am not obligated to give someone a tip and my husband didn't leave me any cash to give a tip (he paid for my lunch with his card over the phone.) and this guy was looking at me like I stabbed him in the back for not giving him a tip. When I even told him my husband paid for my lunch, this guy started muttering "You still owe me a tip, I drove all this way for nothing.", no, you drove all this way BECAUSE IT IS YOUR JOB TO DELIVER FOOD. I get that the wages for a driver aren't ideal, but a gratuity is just a little extra something if 1.) we're feeling generous or 2.) we got the spare cash. You don't know if all I had was enough for the meal or if someone else was treating me! You don't know if I have any cash or if it was with a coupon or something, but unless you want me to get you the couple of pennies on my computer desk for a tip, I honestly think that would be more insulting to the driver. So I just closed my door while mentioning to him in a somewhat peeved voice "Okay have a nice day" and I could hear him cursing me in another language, whatever. Again, this place has nice food, very friendly customer service (cause the lady on the phone was so polite and patient with me after I called to tell her about their driver, apparently this isn't the first time if the lady had to go tell the MANAGER.) and their food looks like the pictures they used in their menus.. My major complaint is just how rude and how poorly trained the driver was. That is my main complaint. read more

What happened!?! We've been ordering pizza there since they opened and have really liked it. Today we ordered and got a very thin, very lightweight cheese pizza the quality you'd expect from a gas station (ordered June 6th). When we picked it up, the box felt very light. When we got home and opened it, it was the thinnest thin crust pizza you could make. If you're the owner, better fix this as your competition is only a 30 second drive away. read more

This place has got on my last nerve. I have been here several times since moving to Shirley 6 months ago. Today was the sixth time they got my order wrong. Delivery takes an hour. Eat in and take out is 20 minutes at least sometimes more, no matter what you order and thats with no one in there! Large sub is undersized. The only reason why I kept going back is the food is actually pretty good. But the disorganization, along with everything else is leaving me no choice but to try Village pizza.
